    This is wonderful. I never thought about living in a tiny house but the more I see people who have them the more I think it would be nice. It is just myself plus two cats and I don't need or want a large space or many things.

    Excellent! I am envisioning a community of crafty and creative folks developing plans to allow cities a chance to revive true home living in a green affordable setting. This method of construction seems very environmentally conscious. And I commend the people behind the tiny home movement. Inspirational!

    Like the way that there is a description/ introduction on each video, quite informative. Don't like the "wet bath" though, where everything get wet , prefer the shower design with separate compartment with shower curtains or glass door panels which could keep the sink , the toilet and the rest of the place dry and tidy.

    Glad to see that the city allowed you to have this! Love it! My wife and I have a piece of land back in Louisiana we would like to do the same with but I doubt the zoning laws will allow us to do so.

    really glad to see the city opening to this idea. I wish it had a more garden feel outside rather than asphalt though....perhaps you are not allowed to do this...or perhaps you need space to move the tiny houses around. What about larger planting boxes on wheels??? maybe even several that are as big as maybe 3 x 6 feet . and then they also might not even need to be square but a bit more curvy. It could really transform the parking lot feel ....cheers and best of luck !

    I love American entrepreneurial spirit and to be honest if the price is right and I am visiting Portland I will be staying there. One thing I want to do is see if it is something that I could live in for a semi long term. I also would like to say the hostess/tour guide looked very cute.

    I was just in Portland last week for the first time and drove to this place because I really wanted to check it out. Unfortunately it was closed off so I couldn't take a tour, but I was able to take some lovely pics of the outside. Glad this video is up, so I still get a little tour:). I wish they had this tiny house movement in the DC area!

    If more hotels like this would open up along bikable routes, it would be easier and more affordable to take multi-day trips. No parking or big land-parcel needed; just a place to park bikes and the tiny houses as cabins. Maybe a hand-washing area for clothes would also be good; you can hang them on the back of your bike to dry while you're riding to the next destination.

    This is so fantastic. Of course my family thinks I have lost my mind, but this country and the American Dream is not at all what it is believed to be.

    • @discountconsulting
      @discountconsulting 11 лет назад

      What they are doing IS 'the American Dream.' What do you think pioneers lived in as they moved west except covered wagons about this size?

    • @fuckgoogle4704
      @fuckgoogle4704 11 лет назад +1

      discountconsulting Their wagons were a form of conveyance, not the desired quarters of their destination- and the wagons carried all their worldly possessions and supplies for the trip. They didn't live in them, though you could say they lived out of them.

    • @discountconsulting
      @discountconsulting 11 лет назад

      FuckGoogle+ What's your point? They weren't stuck in cities working dead-end jobs to pay rent or afford a mortgage that keeps them indentured to debt. What is the 'American Dream?' Consumerism in pursuit of status funded by endless cycles of debt-driven income and spending? Is that what you think pioneers imagine 'somewhere over the rainbow' as freedom?

    • @fuckgoogle4704
      @fuckgoogle4704 11 лет назад

      discountconsulting The point was the pioneers didn't live IN their wagons, I thought that was pretty obvious. Perhaps before you launch off in a tirade about lots of other issues you should stop to understand the one simple one being discussed.

    • @discountconsulting
      @discountconsulting 11 лет назад

      FuckGoogle+ Ok, please explain how they lived. What did they do at night when it was time to sleep? Pitch a tent? Are you sure some didn't sleep in the covered wagon to save time pitching and breaking down tents? Maybe they just slept outside on the ground when the weather was nice. You could do that with a tiny house too.
      What you call "launching off on a tirade" is a response to nit-picking about the exact function of covered wagons. I don't mind discussing that but my point was that westward pioneers trekked away from the civilization they knew it to live free in covered wagons until they got the chance to settle and build something more substantial.
      I would also guess that many people slept in the covered wagons at least some of the time. Why wouldn't they? Better to take out supplies at night and sleep in the wagon than leave the supplies inside and sleep on the ground, no?

    Would be super fun :D

  • @faithrada
    @faithrada 11 лет назад +2

    True... which is why we need pioneers like these people to help change the 'common' mindset. Look at all these very BIG, and very EMPTY McMansions which are currently littering the landscape. The world IS changing. Tiny home "communities" might be one answer.. especially for an aging population. Tiny homes = less children = less schools and less services over all. I think America, needs to re-think the whole Housing thing.. but it will take pioneers to do it.

    Beautifully done! Like, most people, have no clue on how to get started regarding zoning laws and permits...I'm in my 40's and have been a renter all my life. Never really wanted to own a huge house with a huge mortgage...And, now at my age, home ownership is out of the question. I would be paying a mortgage until my death. Having a tiny home is finally the solution to home ownership. The problem, I encounter is where do you park these homes?
    Thank you,
    Dee.

    • @GEAUXFRUGAL
      @GEAUXFRUGAL 9 лет назад +2

      +Walter Vega Buy land OUTSIDE COMUNISTS CALIFORNIA and put up a wooden fence around your place FIRST. Try to do this at a place that has a well water system. As for the electric that is tricky but can be done if you get a hybrid car you can use the car as energy storage to help offset the cost of batteries. Panels could be used for most of your daily use. Washing clothes you could do that by hand and use a clothes spinner to dry them for the most part hang them up to dry the rest, trick to that is have one of them carports erected for $600 and string your line under there. It is more flying under the radar than anything. You do it this way and keep your mouth shut about what you are doing they have no clue what is going on inside your little fortress. Last I checked this is America we don't ask permission we grant them permission and today's government needs to learn who is boss. The government is going to try to look in on your place from the sky you need to conceal your place from aerial shots use the tricks the duck hunters use. If somebody ask you about your place you ask them a question never give them an answer and when pressed you answer your phone weather it rings or not.

    I have done some reading on Gypsy (Romani) Caravans. Often they would combined the mobile dwellings with temporary shelters such as the iconic "Gypsy Bender" tents. Besides researching traditional Romani living, British Campaign Furniture (knock down, modular, designed for travel) has been a hobby of mine for some years. There is also the nomadic Mongolian Yurt lifestlye which offers many lessons in tiny home living.

    An honest and fair question. They did mention in the beginning of the presentation that caravan living is nothing new. I think too that one can get an idea of what their lot used to like judging by the lot next to it. What an improvement! This tiny house hotel has more space between them than did my townhouse community so I'm sure it doesn't require anymore social skills than that:)

    I love it! My advise to anybody that wants to do this, Do It NOW! I live in New York City and there are talks of building these types of units around the city. The problem is, NYC doesn't cater to it's residents. It only cares about the tourists, which means ridiculous building codes will be attached to this type of project and will ruin it for everyone else. The modesty of such lovely homes will be removed. Of course NY is not the first to do this, but it will eventually set the precedence.

    They really need to make sure that these small homes on trailers are welcomed, and legal to be in, mobile home parks. Many places do not have campgrounds, and those that do are many times not going to have monthly long term rates that are feasible. The last house shown is the one that I liked the most, however, all of them really need more shelves with doors. The walls need to be covered with shelves that hold small items and doors on those shelves, too many visible items make it look worse.

  • @Cr2nCaroline
    @Cr2nCaroline 11 лет назад

    "Sense of living experience" is subjective. To each his own. Less house means less maintenance, less to heat, less to cool, less required to furnish, less to finance and possibly less to insure. This translates into savings. While it may not give the returns of a large home it has its returns and not everyone can afford a large home and the stress of a job in order to have what they don't even want in the first place. There's more to life than keeping up with the Joneses.

    Hi,
    Great video! I'm wondering if this kind of place could be set up for monthly rentals. If so, perhaps then it could have a co-housing variation, like common outdoor kitchen, common sauna & showers, maybe a trailer that is a laundry room and storage room?
    The other thing I wonder: Are the tiny houses kept to that length partly to stay under a certain code? If no code problems, why not make the trailers 10 feet longer? How about slide outs? After all, they are not on the road.

We have many hotels..yet the younger people are tired for being a bit isolated in a hotel..so your project will be a perfect fit..and especially for Americans our money exchange rate is 10 or 12 times cheaper..so you can have much more benefit and greater hotels..especially in 2015 the tax for every imported stuff and people from abroad are being reduced..so it is a great benefit

    Having a small home doesn't necessarily mandate freedom, but rather it's the highly active social, urban lifestyle that has the person using their home only as an office or bedroom. The person is not tied down to one place. It's just somewhere to sleep and put all their stuff. It's no different from having a large block of land that gives you the freedom to do as you please, or having a large house that offers both security and privacy. All of these require money to work.

    This is the future of America...if we're going to have any future at all...like it or not. I like it...but most people want to "chase stuff" still.

    I'm not sure where you got Detroit from. I live in Missouri and we have very nice homes for 50k. I disagree that living in a tiny house is "substandard". I think for many it's a lifestyle that gives them a lot of freedom. For the homeless it's better than sleeping outside. In SoCal people rent tin sheds for 500 a month with no utilities or bathroom. I do agree that Tiny Houses could be produced for much less than they go for now. I also agree that a loft is a big turn for many people.

    If there are these hotel in my country, I would try life in tiny houses.
    I want a tiny house. But I have never stayed tiny home, even RVs.
