🙏🙏 Thanks Matt, that's very kind 🙏. Aye, it is a lovely sound and very simple from a rig view. And... not too expensive. 🥰 Thanks again man, much appreciated,✌️
Sounds cool man. I used to own a little Big Muff years ago and found it difficult to control 😯. But I hear lots of great sounds and recommendations on the Muff....might have to revisit it. 🙏 Thanks for watching man.
I personally prefer my custom (Hidalgo) modded SD-1 over the DS-1. Perfect in front of a JCM for Zakk Wylde sounds, in front of an AC-30 for Terje Rypdal sounds and in front of a 1987 it also shines. But, it's the only (tubeless) overdrive pedal, which I have kept, after I have got my first Kaluna pedal. Only because of it's very unique sound and the great harmonics. But the Kaluna, even more the Kaluna II is another league. Makes even an amp obsolete, even more, if you stack two. All, you additionally need, it a good cab IR behind and you are there, no matter, if you look for vintage cleans, classic crunch, Plexi overdrive or anything else up to Engl/Diezel hardcore high-gain tones and it always sound vivid and authentically. Also had the SD-1 and DS-1 Waza versions, both did not convince me much. Not so many improvements, which justify the price difference. The same you can do with an eq pedal too, most probably cheaper and more flexible. Even had the DN-2 Dyna Drive, also soon sold it again. But to be honest, apart from the SD-1 and the CE-2 I never have been a big Boss pedals fan. Had a lot and most of them disappointed me.
Hey man! The Boss CE-2 is kinda everyone's choice so I hear you on that. I'm interested in what you say about the pedal you use that has tubes in. I've never really seen the benefit of that but you say you you have run it 'ampless' into a good cab IR. That is interesting 🤔. I have done that with a DS-1 into my two notes cab m+ and it was good but a tube pedal may be better in that situation. If I can't use my amp I tend to turn up with a Blackstar Amped 2 😎. I'll check out the pedals you mentioned, especially for a Zakk Wylde time. Everyone wants that, right?! ✌️ Thanks for watching man🙏
@@markodonnellguitarJust one link, others you find easily by youself: ruclips.net/video/W6bRTowNUvk/видео.html The secret of this pedal is the extremely flexible -/+ 12dB eq section, which allows a lot of great tones and adjust exactly the right frequency bands for guitar, plus the active Volume control, which not only allows good boosting but also below unity gain adjustments, which sometimes even sound better in front of some amps. Not so cheap, but for me a real gem meanwhile. The modded SD-1 (for Zakk Wylde tones) is this one: ruclips.net/video/NNwcIetMD94/видео.html Sounds now like a nice SD-1 - Klon Centaur mix, but still offers the typical SD-1 characteristics, but sounds more open and naturally, reacts more dynamically, but has a little less, but still more than enough gain, plus, it has three switchable voicings, Warm (uncut bass, which I mostly use), Bright (similar to the original tone) and Rock (a little more gain and in between Warm and Bright). Don't know, if this guy is still making them, the company seems to be very unknown, I got it really cheap at reverb.com used, but I really love it. Also had modded an SD-1 by myself, but it did not even come close and the more popular and also more expensive) SD-1 mods from more famous companies also did not impress me so much. This one really is an improvement in my opinion, without altering the basic sound too much, only improving it.
That's quite a line up of pedals. You know, I've never actually played a BD2 😮. Must get one next year. I'd like an 80s pedal, just for the awesome coolness of it. 😎. Thanks for watching. Appreciate it 🙏
I love the BD2 my wife got it on ebay for 30 bucks it's kinda what you would expect from the name. I play keyboard too and if I get a" mostly keyboard " gig the Blues Driver is all I take. I subscribed yesterday and listened to some of your music. I dig it. Is it mostly you or other people . I am getting ready to cut an album of all originals (kinda Southern Rock genre) and I am debating on whether to do it all myself or mostly myself or use a band any advice?
@@jasonnorris5298 Hey Jason, isn't it brilliant when our wives buy us guitar pedals. My wife bought my cry baby for me 🥰. Thanks for checking out the other vids. All the music on the channel is just put together in logic pro x. I use the session players feature which is fantastic for quickly making a track. It sounds good to my ears. I have recorded music in bands and all by myself too. I find I like the freedom of writing and recording as you want. Having a band is great and I think the music benefits from having specialist people on their instruments. Both have benefits I'd say. One thing I found is that it can be lonely and isolating to do it all by yourself. Once the music is written and recorded comes promotion and gigging. You need to have people who you trust who will respect your artistic creativity and play with you. I play guitar for artists nowadays that I respect and try and be the best player and band mate I can, cos I know what it's like when you get people playing for you that don't take it as serious as you do. As long as you enjoy it and feel that you are doing what you love, go for it man. That's really what it's about. I'd like to hear some of it buddy and keep me updated. Feel free to hook up with on Instagram. I think my link is in the bio on RUclips. 🙏 ✌️
Out of curiosity, why don’t you use a pick?? Is it a preference?? Keep up the good work, loved it when you cranked up the gain on that pedal, that’s my jam 😂
Ha ha! Hey Scott, good to hear from you. I always know when I stick something with gain on the internet, you are gonna like it, ha ha. I love guitar picks and have a nice collection but stopped using them years ago. I find that I phrase things better and I'm more articulate without one. I also love the tactile feel of the guitar and having hands on strings. It feels weird to use one nowadays. How is your playing coming on?
I think you'd be better off with a EQ boost style pedal as you're not really utilizing the OD/Dist. Does the DS-1 have that strange bass roll off like the SD-1?
Hey Neil, I am useless with EQ. I much prefer a single tone control. It does have a different EQ curve to the SD1, from what I remember 🤔. I sold my SD1 as I wasn't finding it as tonaly usable as the DS-1. You are right in that I'm not really using this for probably it's main bag, distortion. But, I really think it has a good impact rolled to the point of early distortion. I do find the EQ sweep so useful. You have kinda got me thinking about finding an SD1 to see how they compare. Cheers man and thanks for watching 🙏✌️
I would seriously consider getting the waza version. It's second mode keeps DS-1s gain structure that people like but completely re-voices it. While original can often sound dry and hollow the waza has one of the prettiest mid sections out there. I use it for everything. I need a boost, light crunch, screaming leads? I always use it.
Now this is what I like! A fellow DS-1 user that does it all. Yes, I think I will get the Waza at some point. I like how you say it retains the original pedal but has a mode which has a different voice. I'm glad Boss did it that way and didn't just revoice and release a different version. I find EQ hard so a pretty mid section sounds appealing. Think I'll ask Santa for a Waza 🤔. I can then retire my DS-1 to nice display case in my room 🤣. Thanks for watching man, and you've given me the push I maybe needed to go Waza. ✌️
Excellent Sounding Pedal on its own. However, on a board with Modern Guitar Pedals the DS-1 does not hold out. It has a severe lack of Volume Boost. I was very excited to get my hands on this and a Boss Super Overdrive. They are simply beautiful and legendary pedals, but they have not aged well. Both have been cycled off my board unfortunately. I replaced the DS-1 with a MOSKY King Rat and the Super Overdrive was severely outclassed by an Azor Golden Overdrive.
Hey man! Thanks for commenting. I hear you on the volume difference between the DS-1 and some modern pedals. I personally like the lower-ish output as I find it still drives my amp front end. Some pedals I have owned in the past I've found had too much volume, and I was backing it off to the point of it not working...I'm kinda put off by big volume, ha ha. Now, I'm keen to try the King Rat pedal you mention. I have a soft spot for Rats but somehow have never actually got my hands on one. The DS-1 is a main stay for me at the moment, but hey, I am always open to new things. Ha ha. Cheers man, really appreciate you watching and commenting. 🙏✌️
I'm blown away by how good that rig sounds! Good work.
🙏🙏 Thanks Matt, that's very kind 🙏. Aye, it is a lovely sound and very simple from a rig view. And... not too expensive. 🥰

My signature sound is a ds1 panned hard left and a big muff panned hard right. Lovely
