😢 What I expect is for them to just add a "Needs Opo-opo" requirement for Dragon Kick to generate a Fury stack and keep it down low where it is. I have no faith they'll return Dragon Kick to being the hardest hitting GCD you could build a rotatio around.
As someone who has literally no idea who monk even works let alone its proper rotation when i play it, i find this video to be fascinating and educational or it could be potentially an eldritch summoning ritual in disguise. Jury’s out on that one tbh Dnc just press button and get mini dopamine boost when next tier of combo procs both feathers and fan 3 :D
i created a rotation, and tried to revolve it around this, but it was still technically inferior to a "more normal" rotation because of the guarenteed bootshine critical.
Man as soon as I saw this rotation I didn't know what to think. "Back to the old strange monk rotations." But yea, as soon as this is gone it's their intended unfun rotation. Not that this was much better, but at least it was something else. Optimal Drift, we didn't know how good we had it.
i’m so sad at the dawntrail monk changes. Was by far my favourite job in EW and now it feels like they completely gutted the skill ceiling of the job in favour of “press glowy button”.
I mean... The rotation is completely unchanged. Except we now have to fit in 2 more gcds into the already tight burst window. I don't see what the fuss is about.
Commenting from an alternate universe where they make it so the opo-opo fury doesn't apply specifically when under the effect of "raptor form", but forget to also exclude "coeurl form", resulting in a horrifying 1-2-1-2-3 loop that lasts exactly 3 days before an emergency monk balance patch memes aside since this was clearly meant as a QOL feature for monks without form shift in level 50 content, it'll be interesting to see if they apply a clever workaround like the above form anti-requirement, or just give up on the idea and make level 50 monks dragon kick twice. maybe we'll get to use Perfect Balance outside of combat the way samurai can with Meikyo Shisui.
The thing is the latter part talks about Area-of-effect attacks, not single target moves. Which seemingly hints that they are only going to add fury buff to AoE's and skip dragon kick adjustment. Not like they fixed DK in endwalker either.
I've mained monk since the beginning of my time playing this game, but CBU III really killed my enjoyment on MNK rotation. I really do not want to play this job anymore. Sad days...
I miss the old 6.0 monk, pure bootshrine dragonkick during perfect balance makes it feel real dumb, no buff and dot make people avoid press twinsnake and demolish. The whole burst rotation is only focus on opoopo form, it's so boring and plain for both burst phase and non-burst phase. Good thing is the optimal drift can still be done. It's not about how much damage u can do, it's literally no fun playing the new monk, hope they figure something out before the savage patch. btw great video, have been watch ur video and guide since 2021, always professional and great quality content. i agree that endwalker monk was more fun to play, but (outside of the unintended rotation mentioned in the video) you still want to use twin snakes and demolish, since they make your other gcds do more damage. plus opo opo has always been the higest dps set of gcds, at least since endwalker, but you still want to incorporate a solar nadi in to one of your perfect balances in order to access phantom rush. again, still wish they would go back to 6.0 monk since i enjoyed the juggling of the dot/buff and the skill expression it enabled, not to mention using dk>dk>sss before the end of a fight for the extra damage, but it seems very unlikely that it will be reverted at this point. black mage has had MUCH more pushback, and it seems like they arent going to do much to change that except change potencies and make umbral soul really low level

Started in 5.4, so I don’t know the GL days but monk has been my main since then. In 7.0 I dropped it because the changes didn’t seem fun to play. Tried viper but it’s kinda dull?? to me at least so I’m gonna ninja for the moment. Rip 6.x monk, demolish and twin snakes buff, also double solar and optimal drift. Hopefully all the funny things like 3 blitz and dk spam near kill time still remain (idk I’m not caught up with monk meta optimization things). Seeing bootdk, opo spam before 86, and single target weaponskills being optimal at 3 enemies become a thing though is really funny though even if the days are numbered
Oh damn, as a brand new monk (level 54) I thought that was intentional. I've been enjoying it. 😂 So if DK after the PB combo is banned/suboptimal at level 50, what do you do instead? Just restart your combo sequence with an unpowered Bootshine? It seems weird to me that attacks with PB don't give a stance change, because without DK you're awkwardly left with no stance after every PB.
You'd still DK when you dont have an opo fury, just instead of it being boot->dk->raptor->coeurl, It'll go back to being dk->raptor->coeurl->boot->raptor->coeurl. So just one every 3 gcds instead of being back to back. You essentially never want to use unpowered bootshine, so in perfect balance if you start it with boot, youll just have to dragon kick after the blitz instead of during pb.
They just don't know what to do with Monk. I like Fire and Wind Reply, the Chakra cap and the direction SSS has taken but this, for example, just makes me think they still have no clue what to do with the job.
The more I look into DT the more I realize that it was made by a B team, Yoshi-p not only took Koji-Fox and Soken to work on FF16 but he also poached at least two other lead designers (quests and combat) that worked from 1.0 to EW to work in 16 instead.
that was the only thing keeping the rotation kind of interesting about DT monk now its pretty much EW monk but with fury replacing demolish dot and TS buff, courel and raptor gcds should get some potency increase to make the job more than about mashing as many opo's as you can
You know a thing that bothers me since last expansion, but I don't know what people think about it bc I don't usually see stuff like this, is that BS about having to use the 3 diff forms to use rising phoenix. What is the point of a cooldown that allows you to break the 1-2-3-1(...) flow and use any form to then have to use one of each form? And in endwalker at least, since we had the buff on 2 and dot on 3, there it could be useful to make small adjustments to reapplying one of those or something (though I still didnt like it), but now with the Fury stacks that doesn't make sense. I think they could change the req for elixir to be opo x3, and phoenix to be coeurl x3 so that you would use it to spend all 3 stacks of coeurl fury in a row, and anything else bring the lame one.
PS: I was trying out the tech described in the video, and it is much more fun then the "correct" way of playing lol. I hope the "fix" they make to it is just to officialize this way of playing somehow lmao.
The point of it is similar to ninja’s mudra. You have free agency to choose the order of your skills instead of flowing 1-2-3. ((Spoiler alert, in EW this meant 1-3-2, refreshing Twin at the end of the burst window where it would be dropping off))
@@Atiredproblem ninja's mudra is not about choosing order, is about choosing what you want to spend your cooldown on. I would compare muda to samurai that has one ST cd and one AoE cd that share recast timers. The difference is that ninja has like 6+ cds that share that cooldown.
@@lucasrfma mudra is precisely the same as Beast Chakra. You end on the mudra for the one you want and the path there doesn’t matter. Failure means a bunny which is a loss of potency. Over to Beast Chakra, where we choose which path we want to take, end on it, and if we fail it we get a bunny with potency attached. Exact same thing fundamentally. Your want for it to be spam one button or spam the other is as unintuitive as the complaint you made.

Simply because I don't like that PB allows you to ignore the forms, but then you do basically the same as not ignoring the forms when you use phoenix. I also acknowledge in my initial post that it could still be somewhat useful for small adjustments in EW, such as the one you mentioned in your response, but with the new system replacing the buff+dot not even that happens.
I'm reminded of their hamfisted removal of Kaiten on SAM. With the removal of that potency gain on Midare, the value of the Kasha and Gekko combos plummeted in favor of spamming Yukikaze to generate Kenki and then just eating the Setsu Sen via Hagakure, then dumping all of your Kenki in Shinten. It wasn't *better* than the "correct" SAM rotation, but it was like 98% as good and involved far less work. You still used Midare while Meikyo was available, but outside of those 2+2 uses every two minutes (Midare+Tsubame) and your Ogi Namikiri/Kaeshi Namikiri GCD's, your entire rotation was Hakaze+Yukikaze fueling Shinten spam. With a 2.0 GCD this meant you had 6 GCD's out of 60 in a two minute period that weren't Hakaze+Yuki, and your damage was still competitive. Absolutely mind boggling to see them drop the ball again.
Its just an optimization tech for monk that won't exist for very long. The fact that you only use 2 combo buttons in your opener is something of a meme that happens from time to time with the job due to number balancing errors. The core rotation of the job is mostly the same and SE's intention for the job that it will likely be returning to.
I'm kinda glad this is getting removed because the animation for the new bootshine is so bad and it looks so weird seeing your character do a smash bros air combo 3 times in succession. I hope we can triple tiger spam in the future 😭
I think both Ninja and Monk and maybe even Bard, needs a complete rework at this point. They are trying new things and change it every expansion but it's never really works. Compared to the newer jobs it's feel dated in a way.
You... Think that's complicated? It's literally pressing 4 buttons in sequence over again. Like the least complicated DPS rotation, and the rotations aren't even very complicated to begin with.

On one hand, this was broken and completely stupid. On the other, Generating so much damage you rip aggro off the tank, was hilarious.

Its just an optimization tech for monk that won't exist for very long. The fact that you only use 2 combo buttons in your opener is something of a meme that happens from time to time with the job due to number balancing errors. The core rotation of the job is mostly the same and SE's intention for the job that it will likely be returning to.

I'm kinda glad this is getting removed because the animation for the new bootshine is so bad and it looks so weird seeing your character do a smash bros air combo 3 times in succession. I hope we can triple tiger spam in the future 😭

I think both Ninja and Monk and maybe even Bard, needs a complete rework at this point. They are trying new things and change it every expansion but it's never really works. Compared to the newer jobs it's feel dated in a way.

You... Think that's complicated? It's literally pressing 4 buttons in sequence over again. Like the least complicated DPS rotation, and the rotations aren't even very complicated to begin with.
