This is good, but I think I've seen better from J Winter. It does remind me though that the Winters, Rick Derringer and co will never be mistaken for a cutesy boy band. I went to see Edgar when his Frankenstein was big (ticket=$7.50). The opening act was the then-unknown Peter Frampton. Actually, I think it was Frampton's Camel then. Since then, I've seen PF on TV and he seems nice enough and in later years cut the pop BS. However, back in '74 or whatever I was not impressed. He and his band came out, looking very neat and British and proceeded to bore the sh*t out of me for over an hour. Like I'm supposed to go nuts 'cause you're British and can play a few chords? They were performing Do You Feel even back then. I didn't feel like they did or any of the the audience that was into it (probably drug-induced). They finally left, thank God, and Rick Derringer came out on the stage by himself and w no BS whatsoever, blew the house away with some of the best sheer solo electric guitar I've ever heard, before or since. Rick was in unique form that night. I thought, even though I know Edgar plays keyboards, this is what I wanted to hear--some great guitar playing! Why the hell did we need that pop drivel? Anyway, Edgar and the rest of the band came out and put on a great performance. Just goes to show, it's not where you're from, it's what you've got. This was the night Beaumont bulldozed old London down. And the people were singin' . . . .
