Sotha Sil. Almalexia. Vivec. Powerful, immortal deities born not of celestial providence, but of flesh and blood and pain. Much has been written of the Tribunal, and how three mere mortals dared reach out and grasp the power of gods with an act so brazen they transformed the world of Tamriel forevermore.

Red Mountain erupted because Imperial race was DLC.
give this guy a medal
Brandon Josephhh lol
maxdamageman
really? i didn't know that I've always had the limited edition
maxdamageman ain't it the truth lol
why? you have zero content just a playlist of other peoples videos.
Morrowind did not collapse as the video implies, House Redoran was able to drive the Argonians out of most of it and even recaptured Mournhold leaving only the far southern reaches in Argonian control. Mournhold had been sacked though, so the Redoran moved the national capital to their headquarters in Blacklight.
Morrowind and the Great Houses still exist, but life there is difficult and reconstruction (especially in Vvardenfell) is very slow because of all of the destruction, hence so many refugees.
I think the implication was that the Tribunal-governed Morrowind collapsed, not the Dunmer's grip on the province itself.
The Tribunal is probably my favorite part of your series, so far. Morrowind was complex to an extreme.
l disagree.
Now I know the reason Red Mountain went kaboom. There is now no reason to blame the College of Winterhold!
Oh wow. I never realized people actually didn't know whether to blame the college or not. Interesting.
...
Yes, people in their ignorance and fearful hate blame the mages and the magic it self for the explosion of the mountain, never knowing that in fact they actually knew it was coming and some of the mages wished to stop it, but of course they failed.
it was all Sheogorath's fault. he just wanted some attention.
+quietvalor yeah, sheogorath did it for the lulz.
"Even so far as skyrim."
soooo...right next door basically?
lol.
caleb zitting *Left next door :)
***** the fuck is wrong with you?
***** That's a good point, why don't you go ahead and do it first.
atta boy
Shoddycast _needs_ to tell the story of Wulfharth the Underking. It's probably the most awesome of all on the entire TES series :)
I think Dagoth is my favorite main Elder Scrolls villain.
AlphosLeo I actually wanted to join Dagoth in his dream of kicking the empire and the tribunal.
Thanks
Question of the Week: Morality in the Elder Scrolls games has always been a grey area. The more we researched the Tribunal the harder it was to learn who they truly were. No one really knows 100% fact from fiction, and that's a glorious thing about the TES games, each individual gets to decide themselves. What are your thoughts on the Tribunal?

a People who grasped power of the gods with simple tools after overcoming one of the most sophisticated races ever conceived, they are conquerors who herald their own destruction when they mocked their Daedric prince.
I suspect that they did, in fact, murder Nerevar in order to obtain the tools. Vivec was very vague in his description of the fall of the ancient war hero, and I think this was intentional. Although they had good intentions for their people, those intentions soon gave away to their deeper motivation: a thirst for power. Vivec, at least, recognized the futility of his struggle to survive and surrendered to his destiny, but only after having been responsible for the deaths many false Nerevarines who threatened his seat of power.
I think of Tribunal as about VERY powerful mages. They got their immense magical power from the heart of Lorkhan, but they didn't exactly get God-like powers. A good mage can levitate a rock, Vivec could levitate a moon (or an asteroid). Good mage can erect a magic barrier, but Tribunal could erect the biggest magic barrier of all times, and so on. They were the most powerful mages of their time, maybe of all times, but they weren't immortal in the way Daedra are. Sure, they couldn't die of age or disease, but that wasn't uncommon, especially amongst Mer mages.
An awesome Boss battle.
They intended to do good but the power corrupts as all power does. Even the most pure of beings would loose their way with enough power.
i wanted to talk to Soltha Sil, in the books he always seems to know what he was doing.
Year old comment but it still has truth. He was to me, the most intriguing because of his reclusive nature, and id love to have had one interaction in game..
Sotha Sil was a league above even his fellow Tribunal intellectually, both Vivec and Almalexia recognized it too.
Vivec commented that Sotha Sil probably didn't even realize he lost his power, Almalexia commented how he withdrew like he thought he was better and she despised him for it.
Hey are you still alive? In TESO there is Clockwork City dlc, and on my channel there is a full conversation with him, not trying to force you but... you can check it out.
MrDefault08 I always believed Sothal Sil took his punishment and blamed himself for what happened to the Chimer honestly if you talk to him in the Clockwork DLC he seems very hard on himself I don’t think him as a recluse more if he does not wanna show his face to the people he failed. I actually liked him he didn’t think of himself as a god like Almalexia or Divine as Vivec but he thought himself as a teacher to his people.
One of my favorite parts was the bit about when Lord Sheogorath sent a FRICKIN' METEOR to Vivec City and Vivec tried to flip-off the Mad God by keeping it up in the air, but the Daedric Prince of Madness got the last laugh in the end, as he always does in one way or another! I also heard that it was Sheogorath that drove Almalexia bat-s&%# insane, then in turn murdered Sotha Sil as a result. Man, you know you really f-ed up when Sheo sends a meteor after your ass, and they found out it's not wise to piss-off the Daedric Princes!
It gives me the feeling all those events happened in the main character's homes.
the story of Morrowind is more complex than Skyrim... and Morrowind is more difficult...
its all the same lore. its the elderscrolls lore. its what happened on the planet
it's what's happened on the *continent* not the planet.
That's because the lead writer of TES actually left when Oblivion got released, he was clearly unhappy with the direction TES was going towards
I love the sound of Azura's voice in Morrowind, mysterious, god-like, slightly unnerving.
They were paying attention to such things in Morrowind, Hircines voice is also awesome in Bloodmoon.
2 Shoddy vids in one day? Yus!
I really think the Tribunal gets a bad rap. They gave Morrowind several THOUSAND YEARS of (mostly) peace and prosperity. The events by which they gained their power took place around year 700 of the First Era (which ended with the assassination of Reman Cyrodiil III by the Morag Tong in 2920). To that, add the 865 or so years of the second era and about 430 years of the Third Era before their downfall. That comes to around 3,500 years. Grey skin notwithstanding, this seems like a pretty good deal. Even Tiber Septim didn't want any part of the Tribunal. I admit to some bias here; I mean how many rulers ever pulled a plow like a beast of burden to help an old farmer who had lost his draft animal. (I've always found Vivec to be one of the most interesting characters in all the lore). OK, end rant.
+Ted Siniscalchi It’s all really down to whether or not you think they were out of line to make themselves gods and shun Azura, Boethiah and Mephala, and whether or not you believe they murdered Nerevar.
+PassTheMarmalade1957 The Daedra are horrible and should never be relied upon.
But I can see the point I think
I dont care if they murdered nerevar or not. No one should make themselves gods. Though vivec does seem like the least corrupted of the three.
+Nathaniel Corson So, saying you're given the opportunity, you wouldn't take the chance to become a god?
Shar Thulovaas I would want to, but I would not.
A LIVING MORTAL, THAT'S SOOOOOOOO CRAZZZY!
These aren't the same without him starting with: "Tamriel. Dawn's Beauty..." that opening was awesome .
Sad times for the Dunmer, but they're beginning to return to Morrowind to rebuild, hopefully wiser for it.
+Kainlarsen Yeah it would be interesting visiting Morrowind again after they have rebuilt it and see how the Dunmer have changed after a few bad century's
Wiser in what way?
Ethan Stansmore Not being such a bunch of Xenophobes, for one. Morrowind saw you have to claw your way up their social ladder. Skyrim saw them having to do much the same.
the chimer-dwemer-dunmer lore in this game is probably my favorite. such cool stuff. and being able to play it... ugh i really would like TES6 to be in Valenwood and having to do with dominion stuff but I would just LOVE something in Morrowind. really cool place. the feeling of it, the feeling of solstheim. very unique.
There is a game called Morrowind you know. Where a lot of this stuff happens I heard, not being sarcastic as I haven't played it. Personally I'd love to play in either Argonia or Elsweyr
+David Clapp I think "Argonia" doesn't exist, it's Black Marsh. I might be wrong but I think it's the first time I heard of Argonia. Eventhought I shall say that I have a bad memory xD
TheRewasder97 Argonia is kind of another name for it. More official sounding than something like "Black Marsh."
+dzc4627 Type Skywind in google or you tube. You are welcome :)
There should be a 'Love' button.
You know you're the only one for me.
Don't get upset baby girl. I've loved you many times, it's not you, it's me!
I love... baguettes.
The next episode should have been about Mannimarco, who was in THREE Elder Scrolls games, all three of which gave him a HUGE role! Potema had only two quests in the entire series, both of which were in Skyrim, and were dealt with very quickly.
I love these!
It's perfect for those of us that haven't played through all the games and who still want to know the history and stories of Tamriel.
Yay ! loved what little I read about the Wolf Queen in Skyrim's books and her quest, looking forward to seeing more complete lore about her.
I've been hooked on these! The presentation is amazing. Thank you for your time and energy!
Absolutely loving the series. Such a great way to explore the lore. Great work on the art and voice acting. Absolutely one of my favourite things on youtube!!!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!!
Thanks for all your guys hard work on the Lore series and everything!
Thank you for continuing to make these, guys.
Great job as always. This is the only channel i take the time to like and comment. Your work is appreciated
ShoddyCast I love what you do. I appreciate the effort you put into these lore vids for Elder Scrolls and Fallout (which are 2 of my favorite games BTW). Keep up the good work man.
love this series, I get goosebumps every episode. great job!!
This is the first time I have commented so I wanted to start off by saying thank you for the time and effort you have put towards this lore series. I love the Elder Scrolls' games, but I knew very little of the story behind it. I have wanted to research it for some time, but with time constraints mixed in with a bit of laziness, I had yet to partake in such an endeavor. After coming across your channel last night and watching both seasons today, I have a good foundation of the lore. I feel more comfortable jumping into the Imperial Library now. Thanks again and I look forward to your future episodes!
I have enjoyed every single one of these, and finally caught up. I'm already looking forward to next week's episode!
Why didn't you use more screenshots from Morrowind? The graphics aren't Skyrim standard, but the scenes are truly awesome, the character models for the Tribunal and Dagoth Ur's areas within the Red Mountain.. Fingers crossed that the Skywind project finishes soon :)
Damn 5 Years later still waiting
Great work on the video.
Just wanted to say these Elder Scrolls Lore series are great! Please, keep going!
Keep up the good work shoddycast, u guys r awesome.
Just another great vid mate! keep em up
all this info is awesome and now their doing the wolf queen next thank you for making this series entertaining
I've been on a gaming hiatus (Real life stuff needed getting done) but now I can catch up on missed episodes... Man I forgot how much I FREAKIN LOVE this series!!! Kudos >.
So eager for the Wolf Queen lore. I always make it a point to have the full set of books in each play through.
Yes! I was gonna ask for the wolf queen lore. Thanks bro can't wait
You just got yourself a sub
It is amazing how much work you put into all your videos
I wish Bethesda would have told us more about the Dragon Priest in Skyrim. The one's we do know a little bit about are soooo interesting! I wish we could've explored more.
I kind of feel that way about a lot of back story to Skyrim. A lot of it just feels half told or hinted at.
Ethan Perry Which is probably why I'm a lot more interested in lore about Skyrim. Even after a game about it we still have so much we don't know.
If you want to know lore about Skyrim, go find some of the books in the game and read them, they help you out a lot.
I was speaking more about how a lot of the quest just feel kind half hearted in their writing or how stuff like the civil war just feels very very under developed more then anything.
Ethan Perry Oh okay I see what you're getting at now.
This show is my favourite elder scrolls lore show really :) You make a superb job sir!
I love this series! Excited about the next vid.
loving these tribunal series, keep it up :D
Man I hated the wolf queen questline
Great job! really looking foreward to the Wolf Queen
Well made channel. Love it. Subbed
every time I watch the lore series episodes, I cant help thinking an elder scrolls audio book by shoddycast would be awesome!
im pretty sure sotha sil wasnt even in his body when she "killed him" I think he used his technology to ascend to some kind of new daedra or something else entirely
+oldnotweak if you play trainwiz's quest mod in skyrim "wheels of lull" he has an interesting take on it.
Great video series, congrats!!!
POTEMA !!! good job as always guys :)
I love this series
Yes! I really wanted to know about the wolf queen!
Keep it up. I love this series
Hands down the best series on ES lore!
Great video!
Excellent videos keep Em coming
Really love these vids
Azura lied to the Neravarine. She said that Amalexia's demise would be a boon to Morrowind and that the people would no longer suffer. Then the Dunmer were ravaged by the Red Year.
the thing with the beliefs of the dunmer is that they have to go through hardship so they can basically be better then ever
Best episode of the entire series
Glory to the EP!
Glad u put mods and great vid well done
It would be interesting to see a video about the Companions and their history, mainly their lycanthropy as a major factor.
Like a 5 second video?
Invader Tim ............
+1 to that
Diablakos To what?
to what you said?
Can't wait for next episode
DAMN YOU!.This show never fails to impress me. I get all hyped up and ready to play ESO after every video. You know this is just making the wait even worse for me. SO do you thins the series will be concluded by the time ESO comes out? I know the amount of lore is staggering in the Elder Scrolls Im just curious to know how DEEP you guys are gonna go. At any rate Thanks for another fantastic episode looking forward to watching the Enclave video next week.
there isn't a time I play an Elder Scrolls game where I don't feel empty and heartbroken over what happened to Morrowind, how easily Bethesda obliterated my favorite video game setting and my favorite part of my childhood
I love this series and anxiously anticipate each episode and appreciate the handwork you and kyle do just wish elderscrolls lore could be weekly instead of bi-weekly. keep up the good work
Sheogorath really said fuck it, Majora's Mask
It's so wonderful to have your character be the witness and protagonist of an epic tale that has so deeply affected an entire race (or races). I played Morrowind when it was new and still remember slowly discovering all this amazing lore for the first time. So many feels! And yeah, nostalgia my eye XD, I still play it.
the tribunal were arguably the best thing to happen to morrowind
"Nice picture" he said sarcastically
+petargrad (looks at the moon above Vivev city) uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
(Looks at the rumbling volcano) UHHHHHHHHHHH!
+Ethan Stansmore Lol, this comment had me on the floor!
what you currently have...IN YOUR MOUTH IS ART!
Nerevarine as the best thing to happen to Morrowind.
its cool seeing places you know used as set pieces. I'm like "Hey! I've been there!"
Books by Dissident Priests appear in ESO. In other words, they were around long before the Tribunal's power started ebbing. They didn't arise in response to the Tribunal's diminishing power.
The Sixth House is risen, and Dagoth is its glory.
Some Dunmer still revere the Tribunal of Almalexia, Sotha Sil, and Vivec despite now knowing the story surrounding them and the Nerevarine prophecy's fulfillment. The Dunmer wife of the chief Nord Miner in Raven Rock, Solstheim (TES:V Skyrim) is one (can't remember what her name is). She gets into an argument with the New Temple Priest of Raven Rock about it. She also gives details about her beliefs (and about others who still think the same way).
Omg wolf queen, I'm geeking out already
I love the stories and lore but how I wished I could show the young ones here how it really looked like and how Lord Vivec's wonderful palace and Sotha-Sil's Clockwrok city really looked like and whole atmosphere of just walking in Morrowind and even fighting the Tribunal and Dagoth-Ur and how crazy epic it was.
I wished Bethesda would remake all their game swith the latest gaming engines so we could relive the amazing beauty of the lore of the Elder Scrolls...
I was so sad upon playing Dragonborn DLC to find out that the Morrowind I grew to love was no more and those majestic ziggurats and the Silt-Striders I used to marvel at were all extinct and gone...even Soltstheim was changed from the Nordic lands I used to explore when it too was a DLC known as Bloodmoon.
Man...
You can see both Vivic city and Clockwork City in Elder scrolls online. Vivec city is meh but Clock Work city is amazing
Please Shoddycast I would love it if you could do an episode or two on the Elder Scrolls books Infernal City and Lord of Souls please!
Thank you.
I think the Wolfqueen lore would be enough to give Falk Firebeard night terrors for six months.
U guys r great keep up the good work
The guy that saved his love from the machine that leopard the rock afloat in vivec was one of the protagonists in the ElderScrolls books
I'm looking forward to the next video!!!
Kyle, josh, duff man... You guys are the bestest. Can't wait until the next lore vid :7
Lore and Rant in one day!?
Cool! Can't wait to learn more about the Wolf Queen. ^_^
Another great video. The story of the tribunal is one of the reasons Morrowind is my favorite TES game
First time I expected the '...but that's a story for another day'. Woo! \o/
Who else can't get over Dagoth's ridiculous headwear?
I have to admit that your videos are so unique, the visual elements are so exquisite and easy to understand, thnx for doing this videos!
And this awesomeness is why I replay Morrowind and it's expansions every couple of years. Never gets old. Still the best ES game to date in my opinion.
these are super addicting you watch one and you have to watch the next lol
if anyone finds the books in skyrim "Nerevar at Red Mountain" read it. It tells the betrayel of Nerevar by the hands of the Tribunal and how the Chimer became the Dunmer..... basically it is the rumours ShoddyCast was talking about.
Worth noting that House Redoran managed to halt the Argonian advance north of Mournhold. While the province of Morrowind was gutted with the near-destruction of Vvardenfell and the exodus that followed, the Grand Council is still active and the Dunmer people are, according to dialogue from Dragonborn, rebuilding slowly.
You left out the part where they used the skeletal husk of a giant crab to fight back the Argonians. A giant friendly crab with no weak points.
Imagine if Talos had access to the heart while he was alive! He'd conquer the tamriel so much faster
Baar Dun has nothing to do with sheogorath, its the child of vivec and molag bal.
"'I would have done so myself if I wanted, silly Hortator. I shall keep it there with its last intention intact, so that if the love of the people of this city for me ever disappear, so shall the power that holds back their destruction.'"
from sermon 33 of the 36 lessons of vivec
The ending of the words is ALMSIVI
This makes me feel small as Dragonborn XD
I don't see why.
I stand corrected *shakes your hand* Good job sir. (not sarcasm)
*****
Assassinates Emperor
Drives out Empire from Skyrim
Becomes Emperor...
Seems legit.
XD
***** Hahaha you're joking man. Every game, you expect the hero to become the new ruler. Morrowind, you expected the Nerevarine to become the land's hero. Oblivion, you expect the Champion to pacify the Empire. And you think the Dragonborn will be King or Emperor? He'll probably go on an expedition to Thras and never be seen again.
I'm having trouble understanding who Dagoth was. In the first part it seems like he had his own House of Chimer, The House of Dagoth, but he wasn't mentioned as a member of the Council in the first part either.
First you have to understand that although there are MANY houses of Dunmer(Chimer before that), not all of them are GREAT HOUSES, thus House Dagoth was not a "great house" and not a part of the council...Dagoth Ur was one of Nerevar's trusted generals and 2nd in command of Chimer armies, Voryn Dagoth was his original name....For more info, check the wiki: elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dagoth_Ur_(Character)
*****
I think House Dagoth actually was a Great House, but it was destroyed or dissolved in the war and merged with the other five Great Houses.
House Dagoth was a great house but it betrayed the other houses and for that they were destroyed to the last elf. Except Dagoth Ur. Dagoth lived on as a "Mad God".
corvifred How dare you give that title to someone other than my Sheogorath ; - ;
Who the fuck uses the elder scrolls wiki from this kind of thing?
so excited for the next episode, I wonder if there's going to be anything about red eagle?
