Everyone in the comments is like 'this is not a companion dog'. Let me tell you - I have a jagdterrier. I adopted her from local shelter and only few months later I found out she's a jagd and everything that goes with it. We don't hunt, never did; but I decided instead of giving her back I'll try to love her and give her everything I can. We do agility, obedience, nosework and tons of different activities. She had giant separational issues, but it takes a 2h walk with various activities to calm her and get her to stay at home alone. She's very dedicated, loving, sleeps in my bed, does what I want like 99% of time. The best dog I ever had - a jagdterrier, but not a hunter.
Oh your story sounds the exact same as ours. We rescued ours 6 years ago. Sleeps on the bed, loves the cuddles, has massive anxiety if he cannot see us and needs a couple of hours a day running around. We have local dog fields luckily so he gets to play and run like a crazy thing which keeps him pretty calm at home. He's a clever little sod and eerily watches everything as if he is working it all out. Same here, rescued her in Spain and she cuddles in every night on my bed - didn't have a clue about her breed for a year! she makes the greatest loyal companion too. never hunted but does go off into the woods and chases Squirrels lol before back home for cuddles
Objectively, this is the most resistant breed !!! (Not counting the fighting breeds). But this characteristic is not for the stadium, but for real work!?!
Jagds are not blood trailers, if you buy one for this purpose, youll be miserable, as theyll be miserable. They need WORK, and TO hunt min 45 days a year. Want a Blood trailer? Get a Teckel/Dachshund or Bavarian Hound.
If you want something similar for a pet rather than work get a JRT, these are too high energy and prey drive if you're not going to work it. Even the JRT can be too much for some.
This is a purebreed gamedog that has a must need to burn energy in the woods. It's not a bird dog. It's not good for apartments. It will get you a lawsuit quick for killing the neighbors cats or dogs. Some people need to just get a lab and leave these gamedogs alone.
You must be nuts. A Jagdterrier, and family? This is probably one of the most hardcore hunting dog breeds that ever walked this earth. An you call them friendly? You have no idea of the potential of this breed...
I agree with the poster below me in that MANY cases AKC recognition means an unrecognizable breed. The most obvious is the breed no longer looks like it's supposed to. Some examples are: The real Kuvasz is supposed to have a slightly wavy coat. Go to ANY dog show in Europe and you will see this. Go to a AKC dog show in America and you will see a fluffed out coat. Many breed standards of these working breeds state they should be shown in a natural state, with no excessive grooming except for sanitary reasons around the rear end or in between paws. It's sad to see people ruining a breed just to win ribbons. And let's not EVEN talk about the Border Collie since it was AKC recognized.....
I've seen a Jagterrier mix work as a narcotics K9 in Germany so I guess it's a yes... but their drive and energy level are through the roof, they make a Malinois look sleepy in comparison. They need a very experienced handler.
guest user I was thinking they’d also be good for search & rescue and cadaver dogs. Not necessarily for someone who has been dead a long time but if there was blood at the crime scene they might be able to find the body. But if they’re bonkers with energy they could be too difficult to train.
It will play hide and seek, ours do any way. But it gets quite pumpt up.. Not aggressive but the speed, lots are happening in just a blink of an eye, a big huge hassle
Honest advice: DON'T. This is the one breed that does not belong in the hands of anyone who isn't a pro hunter and works them out in the field daily. Jagdterriers are the most extremely high drive hunting dog you can find with a prey drive unlike any other dog. Any prey they find, will be torn to shreds even if it's your children's pet bunny or cat! Also, they'll destroy your house when they're bored.
Can I trust this breed off leash on a farm? I want to use this in the barn for rodent and vermin control. And I don't want to use a pit bull around my Live stock guardians. It won't end well for the both of them. I don't want any clashes and I know they tolerate smaller dogs much better.
@@aky19832001 I live in Germany and know several Jagdterrier handlers (all hunters) and the answer is still NO. Their prey drive is through the roof, it would be extremely difficult to teach them to leave your other animals alone.
@@aky19832001 We own one but as a pet and not a hunter [we rescued him] but there's never a moment when walking him or when he's in the fields that he is not chasing a scent. Even though ours is not a hunter/working dog, there's no way on earth I would leave him off lead near any other animals to be honest except other dogs and he's fantastic although even the local Doberman gets put in it's place constantly - Jagd really do have no fear at all.
These dogs are made for : Hunting Fighting Surviving They can massacre dogs that are bigger than them , dog like this can kill a wolf . in my area we all have these dogs they can save or kill they can do both , they are different breed .
This is the one breed that does NOT belong in the hands of amateurs, they are NOT family pets!!! Jagdterrier are extremely high drive with a massive prey drive that makes them not safe around other animals and small children. Plus, they are destructive when bored. If you're looking for a nice companion and family pet, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere!
We rescued one 6 years ago. To be honest we didn't know what it was until we did some research so it wasn't a planned breed but oh boy, what an absolutely beautiful dog. Always full of energy and so endless time on the fields and I can vouch for the huge hunting drive they have. Nothing will stop him once he smells something. Initially it was frustrating chasing after him as he raced after the deer but once we learned what he was and did some research we understood. I will have to say that our jagd is just the perfect pet. He is so friendly, always wanting the cuddling and will never leave us out of his sight, completely loyal and fearless. As I said, we rescued him so he is not used as a hunter and instead runs the fields doing his 'thing' :). I could not recomend this breed highly enough even as a family pet if you have access to let him run ALOT. So far we have only had birds and moles and other small animals to sort out but to be honest he will chase anything including the already mentioned deer.
Another specially developed healthy high drive working dog soon to be ruined by the show ring and general pet owners who want something "different" and are not prepared for the dogs high drive. Husband hunted boar at least but having this dog acting like a retriever especially on delicate birds. Terriers are hard in the mouth.....must like their birds tenderized and pre-chewed. This dog is for hunting fox, badger, boar, racoon and other game. Not the show ring.

If you want something similar for a pet rather than work get a JRT, these are too high energy and prey drive if you're not going to work it. Even the JRT can be too much for some.
i wishd id had 3 of them
This is a purebreed gamedog that has a must need to burn energy in the woods. It's not a bird dog. It's not good for apartments. It will get you a lawsuit quick for killing the neighbors cats or dogs. Some people need to just get a lab and leave these gamedogs alone.
do you have puppies for sale?
Nice 👍👍 a terrier with a bloody nose, I'll call em blood hunters🤓..... 🙏😔 👊😎
I really want one of these dogs does anybody know any breeders within the states

There like jack Russell on steroids
Yea, and black. Awesome
They actually quite simular in ways
Parson Russell terriers...( and they're the same as the Jagd)
Roids and Speed
@@yeahbee8237 🙄 Ok
You must be nuts. A Jagdterrier, and family? This is probably one of the most hardcore hunting dog breeds that ever walked this earth. An you call them friendly? You have no idea of the potential of this breed...
i wishd id had 2 of this
The super dog of the world..2 will take out a bear..Basically will mess with bear until heart attack.. Amazing breed
Wow! I’ve never heard of this breed!
Since they’re so good with blood scents do you suppose they would be good for the police?
I've seen a Jagterrier mix work as a narcotics K9 in Germany so I guess it's a yes... but their drive and energy level are through the roof, they make a Malinois look sleepy in comparison. They need a very experienced handler.
guest user I was thinking they’d also be good for search & rescue and cadaver dogs. Not necessarily for someone who has been dead a long time but if there was blood at the crime scene they might be able to find the body. But if they’re bonkers with energy they could be too difficult to train.
Funny the only footage they have is of some rudimentary obedience training. Another useless breed description video.
Her husband is a lucky man
Best dog
It’s just a black fox terrier. It’s not Satan in a dog costume. It’s just a dog.
Could they be trained to track any thing cause it might be fun to teach him to play hide and seek with my kid lol
It will play hide and seek, ours do any way. But it gets quite pumpt up.. Not aggressive but the speed, lots are happening in just a blink of an eye, a big huge hassle
i wishd id had dog like that and glen of imal
Mini working dog. I have 1 jagd
These dogs are fucking mental. If they were the size of a rottweiler they'd need achilles himself to manage!
I want one!
I think I know about the breed, thanks for trying to educate me about something I already know
I really want one of these dogs where can I find one I live in San Antonio tx
Do you hunt? If not, this breed isn't for you.
Can I trust this breed off leash on a farm? I want to use this in the barn for rodent and vermin control. And I don't want to use a pit bull around my Live stock guardians. It won't end well for the both of them. I don't want any clashes and I know they tolerate smaller dogs much better.
NO! Do yourself a favor and get another dog breed
@@ProfessorUFC do you own one?
@@aky19832001 I live in Germany and know several Jagdterrier handlers (all hunters) and the answer is still NO.
Their prey drive is through the roof, it would be extremely difficult to teach them to leave your other animals alone.
In my cauntry djt its the best rat kiler,if jou introduce him to farm animals from 4-6weeks old,no problem
These dogs are made for :
Hunting
Fighting
Surviving
They can massacre dogs that are bigger than them , dog like this can kill a wolf . in my area we all have these dogs they can save or kill they can do both , they are different breed .
In Serbia 100.000 German jagd terrier living.
Not the show ring.
now smooth-haired
Looking like conour McGregor
And twice as crazy on a good day. 10x on a bad day.
👍👍👍
She didn't do this breed justice not used for pointing.
A want one crossed with an American Bulldog
my dream
