Hi, nice tutorial. I tried your procedure but with the engine off I was not able to refill the same amout I removed. I've seen that If you fill the oil till the screw level and then switch on the engine, the oil will be sucked from the pomp to fill the idraulic side and will give you the possibility to add about half liter oil more (to arrive to the same amount you remove). So my suggestion is to fill till it start coming out, then switch on the engine and carry on adding till is dropping again (as specified in the evoque maintenance manual) 😊
@Lorenzo Bianchi Hey, thanks a lot! Yes true, you could also still look that the oil temperature fits. This should normally be at 35°C before you drain it. I will now make another change after 1,000km so that I achieve a good mixing of the remaining oil. It's a pity that you can't get all the oil out at once and that you can't change the filter without disassembling the gearbox. Many greetings, Peter
Nochmals danke für das Video. Bei meinem sind 3 Liter raus, konnte aber nur 2.6 Liter einfüllen. Das Getriebe schaltet dennoch butterweich, viel besser als davor. PS: Ölwechsel bei 130'000 km.
For Discovery Sport (I believe the same ZF 9HP48) the service manual says transmission fluid is filled for life of the vehicle. Drain is really for the case when you remove the transmission, and the filter it somewhere deep inside (also irreplaceable as a regular service operation)
Hey @Dimitry Matvevv! The word lifetime is often used by car manufacturers, but unfortunately it is not true. Because just like all other oils on the vehicle, this one must also be maintained, otherwise you risk gearbox damage. ZF itself says with the specification lifetimes that the oil should be changed after 80,000km or 50,000mi. Thus, the word liftime is more of a marketing gag like Tesla's autopilot. In any case, Land Rover's workshop book or maintenance records specify a service interval of the transmission in the Evoque at 48,000km or 30,000mi. Since I don't have the Discovery Sport's workshop book, but the same engine and transmission are installed, I assume it will be the same. Best regards, Peter
@@notthatkindofachannel thanks for reply Peter! I agree fluids must be changed regularly, that's exactly the reason I am looking for videos like yours. It was surprising for me though that in Evoque's manual it seems the interval is mentioned, while in Disco's (which I own) it isn't, while technically they are the same (my one is the old 2.2 though)
@Dimitry Matvevv I think in the manual of the Evouque is also no indication of when the transmission oil must be changed. I have the value from the service schedule of the Evouque in which it is stated that the oil should be changed every 48,000 km or 30,000 mi. Otherwise I would not know it either ;) All the best, Peter
hi, tomorrow i want to change transmission oil on my range rover. Also 9 speed transmission. A lot of transmission like Aisin and Zf fill the finish level with engine on. Is your tutorial really correct? I cant find more info about it. Thank you so much!
RR evoque 2.2 D 140kW 2014, Ok. I have 14 liter Ravenol 9hp, so i make flush. Thank you for your great tutorial. Greetings from the Czech Republic to Austria 😃
@@notthatkindofachannel Everything went well. Just a little note. When you pour the oil out of the gearbox, it is better to leave the car in a horizontal position and not tilt it to other positions. Otherwise, you won't get the same amount of oil into the gearbox.
Very nice video. Did you measure how much you drained out? Everyone I have heard from that has done this claims they only get 1.8-2L out. I was hoping for 3 or 4L like you got. I have looked at the LR Service manual on Topix and it has some detailed procedure regarding checking the level. First you fill until it comes out the fill hole (like you did). But then you start the engine, press the brake, put it in reverse and wait 10s, then drive, then manual 1st, then manual 2nd and then park (waiting 10s with each change), then raise the RPM to 2000 RPM for 30 seconds. Return to idle and ensure that the transmission is between 95F and 113F. While the engine is idling, remove the fill plug and if fluid runs out, you are fine. If none comes out, then add more fluid until it runs out. I'm not sure how important this procedure is to checking the level.
Hi! Is the gearbox oil the same with the transmission oil or are two different components with two different types of oil and quantity? I have a Velar D180
No this is not needed. What you can do is, start the engine with the filling plug out, change between the driving modes and then refill if needed. Best, Peter
Hi! It is basically possible to change the filter, but here - if I'm not mistaken - the gearbox would have to be removed or partially disassembled, since the filter is located inside. Many greetings, Peter
I cannot for the life of me find the capacity of the Transmission Fluid for the Evoque. How many litres do I need. I am going to do it this weekend, but dont want to fall short of not putting enough in. I have 6Litre.....is this enough. Thank you
Hi James! If you are doing a simple drain and fill, you may only need around 3-4 liters, as not all the fluid will come out with a simple drain. If you're doing a complete change, which may involve flushing the system or replacing the transmission filter, you will need about 6,5 litres. Greetings, Peter
@@notthatkindofachannel yeah that is the trick to figure out how much you drained so you can put back in the right amount and not over / under fill it. I have seen people measure the drained fluid and then replace it, and keep repeating every couple months until it starts looking fresh again.

Hey! Ich würde dir !! dringend !! empfehlen das Öl zu wechseln, oder gleich das Getriebe spülen zu lassen. Hey I have a question and an tip from you .is it smart to change the transmission fluid after that the car has 130k km or about 81k mile ? What do you give as an tip thank you so much for this video keep it up ❤️
Hi @Fadel Alshibili, the Land Rover manual says you should change the gearbox oil every 48,000km or 30,000 miles. Changing the gearbox oil is always a good idea I think 😉 And since your car has 130,000km, I think it's about time. I would also recommend a flush every 2nd time to get the smallest particles out of the gearbox. All the best to you, Peter

@@Uuhuhkkakfadel Hi, if the gearbox oil has really never been changed, then I would definitely do it! It is best to have the gearbox flushed and the filter replaced. Just like the engine oil, the gearbox oil loses its lubricity over time.
