Believable!!! Shenzhen 40 yrs ago was ALSO a fishing village!!!! 10 yrs ago China DIDNT have a single HSR track!!!! 10 yrs ago Chinese EVs was a fantasy!!!! Chinese leading the way was just something some analysts talked about!!!!
10 years ago there were thousands of km of high speed railroad and Shenzhen was already full of ev taxi 😂

The information on the high-speed rail is not correct. Ten years ago, I used to work at the Shanghai office and take the high-speed rail to Hangzhou. At night, I would have dinner with colleagues from the Hangzhou office, go to a bar, and then take the earliest high-speed rail back to work at the Shanghai office the next morning.
It's not accurate to call old Shenzhen a fishing village, it was Bao'an County before it became Shenzhen City in 1979, which at the time had 350k people, and the population now is 17.5m (x50)

The change I saw in 10 years in Shenzhen is outstanding. It is night and day. 10 years ago I could not even visit Shenzhen because I thought it was too backwards compared to HK. Now HK looks backwards.
Should have moved from NY when I had a chance, oh well at least I am retired now and I can visit China frequently.

I wasn't very interested in the conversation. Then 8,10 minutes later, it drwan me in to finish. It was a very interesting conversation for someone who hasn't been to China, and the political and media environment isn't helpful from the US.
traveling and connecting with people from other parts of the world is the best education anyone can have.
The basis of Western democracy is that people within a country are divided into parties with different ideologies, interests, and policies to compete against each other in a winner-take-all contest to determine who will govern the country for a period of time. Groups and institutions spend more time and resources competing against each other, rather than making long-term plans to improve their country. One party's national development plans, infrastructure projects, and policies are undone and reversed by the next party. This wastes resources and impedes progress because long-term plans cannot be implemented.
In China, the people cannot change their government, but they can change the government policies. In the West, the people can change their government, but they cannot change the government policies. In the US, the wealthy dictate (lobbying, political donations, and pork-barrelling are legalized) government policies. In China, the wealthy have no special say in government policies. The 2008 Beijing Olympics highlighted the issue of air pollution in China, drawing global attention to the problem. Chinese citizens have long complained about the high levels of air pollution in their cities. In response, the government implemented policies in 2014 aimed at increasing the use of solar and wind energy and promoting the development of electric vehicles. Today, China is a leader in various aspects of green technology.
Some in the West believe they will continue dominating the world because God is on their side. Their historical success is preordained and inevitable, and their superior culture gave them a moral imperative to intervene in global affairs.
Western civilization defeats itself by its need for endless wars and conflicts.
Asian civilizations (sans Japan) prioritized stability and peace due to their long-standing dynastic traditions, cultural philosophies like Confucianism emphasizing social harmony, centralized bureaucracies, and geographical features that encouraged internal development over external conquest. Their relative economic self-sufficiency and focus on internal trade further supported this stability. In contrast, Western civilizations emphasized expansion and domination driven by geopolitical competition among fragmented states, economic motivations such as the search for new trade routes and resources, religious and ideological factors including the spread of Christianity, and technological advancements in navigation and military capabilities. The rise of nationalism and the Industrial Revolution further fueled Western expansionist ambitions.
Very one sided view. The western system grew by brutal trial and error development cycles. It’s the ever ongoing competition which ultimately spits out the best way forward. The way to get there is costly and brutal, but no planned economy can achieve this. It’s of course easy to catch up, when you can see from the west what has worked long term, but what will they do after? Stagnation already becomes quite obvious. The old man was treated well because he came with lots of background, knowledge and money from western society beneficial for China. Nothing else. Curious to see how China will develop in the next 20-30 years…
When we were young, our teachers told us that the post-80s, post-90s and post-00s were the future rules makers of the world. In a blink of an eye, 20 years have passed, and aerospace, aviation, drones, AI, Internet, and infrastructure are all designed and built by our young people. And now it's up to us and the next 10 and 20 to say that you are the leaders of the future direction of humanity.
1996 is a long time ago and kudos to him, he must have witness the growth from ground zero.

Fabulous. I enjoyed this video so much. I wish I could come to China, and walk around, feeling safe. That seem to be past tense in Europe. I don't go out in the evenings anymore. Not even to theater, as I would need to use public transport late in the night. The train stations aren't places to spend anytime in the evening. Feels like half of my life has stopped. I have to think if a visit would be possible. I don't like flying these days at all, and so long flight would need a longer stay. I get terrible jet-lag that way. And would like to travel in China as well, when coming that far. Damn money is always an issue, top of being old.
China actually offers 15-day visa free visit for people holding a passport of major European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc. Price level in China is very low compared to Europe, especially in smaller cities (which are more interesting any way, and usually the "small cities" are still massive in European standards). The plane ticket could be expensive tho.
@@bonawang4995 Yes, But I would like to spend longer, as so long flight take its toll, added to jet-lag I get flying that way. The travel time will be tough. Two weeks is short, very short.

He came to china in August 96, 2 months later i visited china as tourist for around 7 days. China was very underdeveloped at that time, public toilet was awful.... But today china already changing so much into positive ways....

Weihai is literally a good coastal city for living. Everything is so cheap and affordable, and u can easily have super fresh seafood. Also, my biggest respect to Mr. Kennedy, his contribution to the city is even bigger than many Chinese.

very amazing, 1996 China still not yet develop well, very brave to have the courage to be there back in1996.
He went there because the foreign company is establishing the root that's why he is back every 6mth to yearly then perma stay. It is safe to say, he is part of the China development progress.
I also moved to China in late August 1996 for my company. Actually to Hong Kong, which became part of China ten months later. Then I went to Beijing, which was sooo different back then than it is today!

I totally agree with him, from early SG to China and now Vietnam, transportation always starts with bicycles, then to motorcycles and to cars, same as the roads from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, to highways. A sign of progress and prosperity for its people.

I am leaving the anglosphere for good, had a good run, made some friends, made a bunch of money, experienced so called "civilised" people of Australia and UK, and the "superior" system, lovely cost of living, I think it is time to move on.
I am being sarcastic ofc, these places are miserable, the most boring, misbehaving, racist, fascist places imaginable, cost of living is absolute HELL, nothing comes close to the level of development in China, China is miles and miles ahead.
I’ve lived in the UK all my life and I’ve never been a “proud” Brit, Hate it here. I may not sound patriotic, but how can I be patriotic to a culture and traditions that I very much dislike. Where I live in the UK, it’s predominantly white, stiff upper lip etc etc… Disabled, LGBT, immigrant, any minority is looked down on. If I didn’t have a family to care for I’d leave in a heartbeat. Japan, China, South Korea… I’d never leave.

weihai indeed is a very beatiful city , it's not well know as a tourist destination demestically until just few year ago , and Douyin and Xiao hongshu made it very popular on socical media , everyone i know wants to go there , and i went there last year with my family and i abosolutely loved it , except i went duirng the peak season and hotels are expensive, but it had a lot to offer and with extrealy beatiful coast. i will got back again sometime in the future

It has always brought me to tears when people talked about their lives in the past a few decades in China, especially when foreigners do that. Not long ago, I listened 曹操 talking about old Beijing he had experienced which was very emotional for me. So proud of my home country has come a long way from where she was. ❤ 🇨🇳 ❤
The problem of these Pro China "migration" promo video is that China as of now Still is not a migrant country. Although with the rapid ageing demographic, this could change Really fast. Maybe in 5-10 year revisiting this topics, when sea of migrants are flooding chinese Streets, the fellow Chinese friends will think otherwise. Those "China is not racist" or "Chinese government build infra first " narrowtive will take a drastic yet interesting turn by then.

My wife is Chinese we live in Southern California and racism is rare. I'm not saying it doesn't happen because it does I'm Hispanic I look white (what ever that means) so most people don't bother me. I find most people are nice✌🏼
Your personal experience can be very true. But he is speaking from statistics point of view. For example, you and your family members may have never been experienced gun violence in the us. But we all know US has one of the highest gun related crimes in the world while comparing with China where gun violence virtually does not exist. So his perception that his child will more likely face race discrimination in the us than other countries is based on statistics
You just don't see racism in your own little corner. It's clear as day that US is an openly racist country. Judging someone by color of skin is of course literally racism, so is nationality, religion, sexual orientation, political leaning, ... So many Americans have no problem at all equating Communism with evil, China with Covid, different political system with oppression. Absolutely pathetic.
