But wouldn't it make even more sense to record in 4K? And output in 1080p?
In that case you could zoom in 200% without loosing quality and still have a real 1080p output?

Yes that would definitely work! For me, I like having icons on my 4K desktop and the taskbar at the bottom... and it would be a pain for me to hide all that before each recording session as I wouldn't want those things captured as well so it's just the way I've always done it (since getting the 4K monitor :-)

Does monitor determine screen recording quality? Or GPU will do the job even if my monitor is not good.

Great question. The monitor you use does not directly affect the quality of the screen recording... the monitor just allows you to see what is being recorded and the final rendered video. Having said that, if you're doing any color correcting then if you try to do that on a lower quality monitor, you may not be seeing the truest colors and therefore color correcting becomes difficult if not impossible... because you won't really know the exact colors you'll get (because you can't see them). Does that make sense? But if you're just doing screen recordings as-is, then your monitor will not affect them at all. I hope that helps!

So is it actually recording at 4k? Or just a 1080p?

The screen recording in this video is actually 1080 since I'm only recording a portion of my 4k monitor :-)
