    I used to use a fire stick on all my TVs for pretty much the same reason you stated as far as consistency. I upgraded my theater to an Apple TV and realized how much better it was. I then started swapping out the fire sticks with Apple and it’s been great. My favorite feature that you didn’t mention is that anyone in the house can use a phone as a remote so there is no need to look for or ask someone for the remote.

      Did the same, but replaced all the Chromecasts with Google TV for Apple TV 4k. What a difference. Better quality and much faster to open and close apps (or switch between multiple apps). Well worth the extra money.

    I treated myself to an Apple TV 4K for Christmas, my first Apple product, and I have grown to love it. The UI is ad free, super sharp and the screensavers are beautiful. I also noticed straight away the upgrade in picture and sound quality, Apple's own shows in particular are simply the best quality I have ever seen from streaming.
    Physical media is still the king for quality but Apple's own shows on the Apple Tv 4K are really good, noticeably better than Disney plus to my eyes.

      I agree the Apple TV 4K does most things with class and style. For me, it's perfect. I made the decision to buy my films from iTunes rather than disc way back in 2010. It was the best decision that I've ever made. Years later, I enjoy them on my MacBook Pro, iPhone when travelling along with my Apple TV. Then when I visit friends in Paris every other weekend, I sign into their Apple TV and all off my content appears. Plus it works so well with my AirPods Pro - no lip sync issues etc. Also the Computers App is amazing if you have content on your Mac such as video, music, photos etc. Best £160 I've ever spent - less than the price of a nice bottle of fragrance and this will give years of pleasure!

For myself, I use a Roku Ultra $99 (US) on my main TV and, I use a Roku Ultra LT $79 (US) on my secondary TV. For years, this set-up has worked great for many of the reasons you stated in this video (simple set-up, same interface, same controllers, etc.). Another thing, I enjoy about my Roku boxes is that they also, help you track and terminate trial streaming subscriptions (smile...smile).

    100% with you on this bro! I bought the LG OLED C2 and immediately got the 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K to go with it - it's perfect! I just couldn't get used to the LG remote - a nightmare to work in a dark movie room. Also, since tvOS 17.2 my iTunes 'Extras' button/tab doesn't show on the screen anymore. Do you still have it on yours? The only way for me to access Extras is to go into the store and click on the title and then scroll to the bottom where extras is. Very bizarre. Just checked and the Extras tab is no longer on the latest Mac OS BUT it's still there on my iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 17.2.1

      Yes, to me the Apple TV 4K looks even crisper in picture. I have 170mbps fibre broadband. I've set my router to 5ghz and the Apple TV 4K is FLAWLESS at streaming 4K Dolby Vision video from both iTunes purchases and Netflix. Press play and it starts INSTANTLY within a millisecond :) It's been 100% FLAWLESS :) Also Apple HomeSharing from my MacBoo Pro 14" 4K UNCOMPRESSED 50mbps+ video to it has been flawless too which surprised me as these files as uncompressed and large - very very impressive. The most underrated Apple product ever and one of the absolute best! :) Plus the remote control is gorgeous and I'm surprised by how well the iPhone remote for Apple TV works :)

    Agree with all points, the only exception for me will be Bravia Core which you can only get on Sony (with free credits)
    Have yet to get the A95L but apart from firmware updates & B.C it will never be connected, my use case is specific obviously but that’s the only exception I’m prepared to make. Everything else is ATV4K all the way, had it a few years now and it definitely tookm y my budget HIsense into the mid-range as far as quality output goes (video & audio!)

    Just discovered you. I appreciate your approach and agree with your sentiments; here's my dilemma. I want an iPad experience (wired out of a jack) direct to my audiophile system. I'm using a 12 year old iPad for this purpose but I fear obsolescence is near. If I have to go iMac I will, but I prefer the pad interface and small screen to do the job and fear TV+ and other pad-friendly entertainment does not operate as well on a desktop. Note- no large screen desired so a television will not do.
    Your thoughts please.

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  4 месяца назад +1

      Welcome to the channel and thanks! Would you be using this iPad for just music or video/movies as well? Are you trying to get the highest resolution music, such that an Apple TV won't work? I've considering using an iPad like this. For music, I would basically look to go USB out of the tablet into a USB DAC input on a preamp or music stream. Then you use the tablet screen, but you get the highest quality output. If you go HDMI out of the iPad, you'll get video, but I don't think you get the highest audio.

    I agree with you on using a ext device to do your streaming...we use Roku's 4k Ultra HDR media device...the main reason we use the Roku is because I'm able to change the movie format/zoom in to full screen to get rid of the black bars that you will see on the top and bottom of movies.. you can't do that with the apps on the tv...so that way I can see everything on my 98" Samsung 4k tv...

    I have a variety of streamers on hand but lately(now that my Tv is working)I find myself using the Tv apps. more. In my case I like them and although I have a Tv in every room I 99% of the time only use my Living room Tv. So I don’t have to worry about picking up where I left off on another Tv. The only issue I have so far is not having ARC setup to hear audio through my AVM70 and even if I did I wouldn’t get Atmos! So I won’t bother with it. I’ll just turn on my streamer for that. This is why I love your channel. Is there any way of controlling playback of Apple Music via the 4K tv box without the need of having tv display on? Would you be able to use iPad or iPhone to navigate playback of Apple Music app?

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  4 месяца назад

      Your best bet in that case would be AirPlay to the ATV from the Music app. The system will play, and you can navigate the whole app by touch on the tablet or phone screen.

    • @outpost3178

      Using airplay 2 would be lossy codec I believe, not lossless quality. Can you confirm?

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  4 месяца назад

      For video, I thought if you, for example, AirPlay a movie from the TV app on your phone that it just sends an instruction to the ATV to play that content. Then the ATV will go stream that content at highest fidelity directly from its own internet connection. Thus, it doesn't matter if AirPlay protocol is lower fidelity. I'm not sure if works the same way for Music though.

      Apple TV has better performance due to its chipset, no annoying ads and more frequent software updates etc. Some content displays at higher bitrates (mainly Apple TV). Other users have reported to experience better video or sound quality for some streaming applications. Can't confirm if that's true though. I have owned new 2023 TV's and I find them to be slow and problematic from time to time, especially when having a few apps running in the background. Apple TV 4k never lags or freezes and the remote control is the best I've ever used. I'm completely sold on this thing, honestly.

    I think Apple TV is definitely the best streamer. I do recommend having access to another platform, whether it be the internal OS or Firestick or Roku as well. The reason to have something else as well is that often streaming services aren’t consistent with their content from device to device. For example, the Fox Sports app on the Apple TV does not support HDR while it is supported on Android and Firestick. Despite the program info on the Amazon show Reacher saying it offers 4K Dolby Vision, many episodes on the Apple TV are only showing in SDR while I get 4K Dolby Vision on Android TV and Firestick. This was an issue with the Rings of Power series as well. Another example is that Peacock does not support match content on the Apple TV. So for any 4K Dolby Vision content you either have to force DV settings on the Apple TV or just get the automatic DV on Android TV or the Firestick. Regardless, for pretty much everything else the AppleTV is the best device, and its gigabit Ethernet connection is nice to have as well.

      I have the same issue with Prime. Reacher started out with DV on my Apple TV 4k and then in SDR. Same issues with some other shows. It's really annoying to have to switch over to my Firrstick 4K.

    I have 2 non-smart TV’s and 2 first generation  TV’s. I don’t plan to get a smart tv, especially since both of mine are still healthy. I hope when it comes time to replace my TV’s that I can still find dumb TV’s for sale.

      I think it would still make sense to get a smart TV. Not because of the smart features, but because non smart TVs will be too budget oriented, hence you can be certain there will be a lot of cost cutting. Maybe they wont implement arc/earc. Maybe they won't keep dolby atmos/vision support etc.

    If you own a Samsung QD OLED you are missing out not using Apple 4K TV 3rd generation hardware to output HDR10+.
    I don't think anyone supports HDR10+ as a output as well from a well known company.

      Don’t you have to have specific HDR10+ content? I have a QD Oled and I just watched Reacher and Rungs of Power on Amazon Prime in HDR10+ both through the internal app and a Shield TV.

    I'm revamping my TV game...switched from Xfinity to RUclips TV. I also use Disney Plus and Prime. I am in the market for a TV streaming device. Sound and picture quality are important to me. Also, I'm not a gamer. Considering those things, why should I buy an Apple TV 4K over a Chromecast 4K w/Google TV?...big price difference.

      @@Techthusiasm Everything I use is Google/Android based...with the exception of a pair of Airpods I have. Do you believe that I would still see an advantage with Apple TV 4K... considering that I am completely out of the Apple ecosystem?

      In that and if you're not buying/building a library of content with Apple, you might find more synergy with another device. But the streaming reliability overall is still tops on the Apple TV. Or even consider going neutral with a Roku. Shield is another option, but I believe they don't have the RUclips TV app?

    The reason why I use Apple TV box is because TV operating systems really really suck. They are organized in such a convoluted way with all the crap they stick on the screen. Samsung had a decent screen and the remote was real nice but the stupid LG operating system has such a crappy Remote called the magic remote. Just do something simple and things would be so much better but they tend to really muck it up. Plus the dac on the TV are not helpful to the sound quality and it's better to run everything through a AV processor. Smart TV speakers can be pretty good one used and this is the only thing good about these TVs except for the screen otherwise the operating system generally sucks really bad. I'm still trying to figure out LG when I have to use it but that really happens so, but it really really sucks really bad. And finally put all the settings on one screen rather than let us go searching around the menu to set something. The screens are big enough you can accommodate all those settings on one big screen rather than searching through a tree of menus which really really really sucks each TV is different which really really sucks

    It's a very personal one. I have 2 Sony A90j 83 inch in the home theater and Sony A95l 65 inch in the living room and for me the consistency and simplicity it's to use the TV app, which by the way give me picture and sound quality as good as Apple TV box. A lot of movies and TV shows are offer in HDR without Dolby Vision on Apple TV 4K vs Dolby Vision on TV apps. Sony TV have all the same apps available on an Apple TV and Amazon Prime, Netflix, Dysney are accessible with the push of a button on the controller. Also Sony have the best quality streaming platform available the Sony Bravia Core with 80-120 mb/sec and DTS/Imax Enhanced content.

      When you have the same make of TV models in multiple spaces, then using the TV apps still gives you UI and control consistency, so that's a solid choice.

    I have the lastest Apple TV 4k but many Apps have problems from time to time. Prime dont play Reacher in Dolby Vision. LG OS app all fine. Disney+ caused Audioproblems. Last i cant change the language because the Cursor disappears. More often the Dolby Atmos Track be silent. I must restart the Apple TV to solve the problem.
    RUclips often dont show HDR.
    Maybe Google or Amazon sabotage the Apple TV from time to time. But for me is a mix experience.
