I just bought one last week. An SS in 'Orange Crush'. I took it to a friend who changed out the air intake with a larger one. Then dialed it in & now instead of 450 horsepower I get 510! Even tho the Challenger scat cat is a 6.4 liter to my 6.2 I've taken it (Challenger) down every single time!!! It does however, suck the gas!!
Yeah, but the Challenger weighs 800 pounds more than the Camaro....put 800 pounds into the Camaro, then see what happens.......Camaro weighs 3650, Challenger is about 4450....the hemi will always make more power.....the cross port cylinder heads on the Dodge are way superior.
I love it, I've had plenty of F-bodys and still even today. These really are outstanding in so many ways, although they've gotten a bit expensive. At the same time it's a lot of car for the money, they have always been an incredible bang for the buck. Lastly, I honestly don't care what GM does with the design, I trust them. I just hope Chevrolet continues to make them.

Drove one a few days ago for my job. Last person to rent it left it in sport mode and when I mashed the go pedal, that thing got LOUD. I still can't believe the LT1 holds TEN quarts of 0W40 motor oil. Car is fun to drive.
I drove my 2016 2SS from Chicago to all over California and back 6,300 miles and averaged 32MPG with a high of 43MPG on a 200 mile leg. This has been the best car I have ever owned and I've owned 16.
My last 4 cars: 2014 Mustang GT track pack manual. 2015 Mustang GT performance pack manual. Then I test drove a 2017 Camaro SS 6 speed and was done. I drove it 3 years and 45,000 miles, two HPDE events, once to the dragstrip. I just traded it in 2 weeks ago for a 2020 Camaro SS 1LE 6 speed in rally green metallic. It is just unbelievable. I did some power mods to my 17 Camaro just a few months ago, which I regret for two reasons. One, because I didn't get squat for them on trade. Two, my new one feels slow, which means I'll have to spend that money again!! If you haven't driven the 1LE version, it will mess you up. If your heart was racing in the regular SS, wait til you drive a 1LE. Note: 6 speed manual only.
Great review, Sarah. I really enjoyed the sound of that V--8 engine, as you were giving it the beans! I sure hope the penguin didn't suffer carbon monoxide poisoning, after being subjected to that blast of exhaust. Keep up the great work.
My wife has the LT1 just like you pictured and we love it! We didn't get the upgraded sound system (Bose like in the SS) and I will say that is a must if you are going to get an LT1 camaro.

I’m thinking about getting a 2016-2020 Camaro & wasn’t considering the V8, just the V6 w/ the 8 speed automatic. But the duel mode exhaust is non-negotiable. The part where the screen turned red was hilarious😂. You give it da beans girl!
Infotainment?thats a tracking device.I was going to trade my heavily modded 04 Bmw m3 for a 2018 SS1LE but when I learned that the infotainment system could be used as a tracking device I declined.I asked if I could order the car and delete the system they said it couldn't be done.The M3 is still with me it looks like I'll be buying an 09 G8gt 6sp with 30,000 mls.
Sarah, you need to go motor racing. Accept the inevitability. You want to go racing. Also the vids you could make with a camera in the cabin while you narrate the action would be epic.

(It’s majorly high maintenance) just idling- and see if it like doesn’t make you want to put it in a music studio, mic it, and record it. Then, drive that sucker, and let me know what you think, hey? Enjoyed driving a rental Camaro SS convertible in Tucson so much, that when I got home I traded in my Euro car for a new Corvette (Manual Transmission). True story. Chevy makes fun stuff these days.
And sadly everyone under 6’7” that drives it looks like a little kid from outside GM really does need to address the issues of the body because the powertrain is on point and kicks ass
Would absolutely love to see an all new Camaro! This is also why I'm a big fan of the 4th gen, which is so radically different than its predecessors, and so modern with its design direction. Would love to see GM take the Camaro into the future with a clean sheet design. 👍
Lots of stuff to look at and play with in the interior. That can keep you occupied since visibility to the outside world is seriously compromised. Like driving from the bottom of a high sided bathtub.

@@tomquimby8669 one could argue the internal combustion engine itself as a whole is antiquated, but it's still around and rules the automotive market. Yeah pushrod engines are old tech, but current designs are pretty darn efficient, and reliable as well.
My neighbor across the road has a 1971 Camaro that looks like bumblebee. It's yellow and has the 327 V8. Personally I like the new look and the 1969 look.

I like the design from the outside and I sat in this car and felt the windshield was way too close to me and I am 5'10, The angle was way too much... I decided to get the Dodge Charger Scatpack plus edition instead.
I have a '19 1SS in the same color with the A10. I only paid $33,100 before tax and lic brand new. And it freakiin' RIPS and handles awesome. No issues with the infotainment screen at all and I'm 5'10". Had the same reaction as Sarah when I test drove it. Screw the 2SS it's not worth the extra $$$ for the same engine, transmission, wheels/tires, infotainment.
Currently have a ZL1 which has the same trunk. Great car but if I had to do it all over again probably get the SS. Having a naturally aspirated engine is great and the SS has plenty of power for street and track.
I drove a '19 version of the same car in white for a little over a week- the trunk is useless...it's deep, but good luck getting much into the opening. Drives nice enough, once you get use to the gun slit side & rear visibility.
This car is based on the Zeta platform - is the one car sold outside of Cadillac that uses that platform. In other words, it leverages what the last generation ATS/CTS used for its performance sedan. Why the larger trunk. Why the rear wheel drive. It is like a cheaper Cadillac that is more tuned for performance. Get the ZL1 1LE version and then you get a car that goes on the track and can compete with the best Ford can throw at it.
You still can’t see out the damn things but this made me want to at least test drive one. If it could just have the visibility it wouldn’t even be a question as to an ss or the gt.
I once got 33 mpg on my 2016 Camaro 2SS with that cylinder deactivation feature doing between 65 and 70mph... i have the 8spd model and can do 88mph at 2k rpm cruising... the camaro SS comes stock with an 87 or 88mm throttle body
I've wanted this car since it turned into a transformer and I'm almost at a point where I can get one but I'll probably wait to see what next years model looks like.

Automatic seat belts were a bad idea, that's why it was short lived. When there is over 10mpg difference between city and highway, you're doing something right. I hope I'm not wrong, but pushrods V8s like this will never have a CVT. I love the brake test reaction.
I agree with the styling comment. I'm a baby boomer and Camaros, Mustangs, Chargers, etc. were some of the hottest cars when I was young but now they look old. I don't want retro styling. I want something with modern performance and looks state of the art! These cars were state of the art 40 years ago. The new Corvette is a step in the right direction. GM, Ford, Dodge, Etc. you need to build exotic looking cars for the younger generation and make them want cool cars or just build Prius clones.
Been a Mustang fan my whole life but I have to say the interior and feel of the Camaro is so much better. However...the blind spot from the front pillars is insane, the head unit points downwards for some strange reason and the trunk needs a wider opening because although you "could" fit suitcases in there, you cant because of the way the trunk is designed. Besides that though...such an amazing vehicle.
When I was new-car-shopping back in 2014, I seriously considered a Camaro SS, but I ended up going with the Dodge Challenger R/T because it was way more true to the old '70's Challenger...plus it was $2,000 cheaper. I have no regrets.
That throwback version back in the days was looking that much better. Reasonable, only Dodge did it the right way.....producing the challenger since now 13 years and still looking that good.
I think the sixth-generation Camaro has aged quite well. Unfortunately, the issues that need to be addressed (e.g., poor visibility, small trunk opening, average interior materials, etc.) can't be addressed until a complete redesign and there are significant doubts about whether GM will produce a seventh-generation Camaro.
I agree Sarah, GM (along with Ford and Dodge) needs to do a complete redesign on the Camaro (Mustang and Challenger) so it doesn't look like an old school musclecar. However, they're worried that the 40-50 year old men won't buy them if they look like a modern sports coupe.

You do not need aggressive bolstering unless you're tracking your car. Those seats are perfectly fine for normal use.

Funny how big the trunk actually is yet the opening is so damn small as to make getting anything other than a grocery bag in there impossible
The back seats fold down and gives access for larger items. I've gotten a 65" flat screen TV to fit in my 2012.

I agree with the styling comment. I'm a baby boomer and Camaros, Mustangs, Chargers, etc. were some of the hottest cars when I was young but now they look old. I don't want retro styling. I want something with modern performance and looks state of the art! These cars were state of the art 40 years ago. The new Corvette is a step in the right direction. GM, Ford, Dodge, Etc. you need to build exotic looking cars for the younger generation and make them want cool cars or just build Prius clones.
Been a Mustang fan my whole life but I have to say the interior and feel of the Camaro is so much better. However...the blind spot from the front pillars is insane, the head unit points downwards for some strange reason and the trunk needs a wider opening because although you "could" fit suitcases in there, you cant because of the way the trunk is designed. Besides that though...such an amazing vehicle.

When I was new-car-shopping back in 2014, I seriously considered a Camaro SS, but I ended up going with the Dodge Challenger R/T because it was way more true to the old '70's Challenger...plus it was $2,000 cheaper. I have no regrets.
I love everything about the camaro aside from its looks. And the fact that i cant see out of it.
That throwback version back in the days was looking that much better.
Reasonable, only Dodge did it the right way.....producing the challenger since now 13 years and still looking that good.
Yes the camaro is dated and ready for a redesign.
I think the sixth-generation Camaro has aged quite well. Unfortunately, the issues that need to be addressed (e.g., poor visibility, small trunk opening, average interior materials, etc.) can't be addressed until a complete redesign and there are significant doubts about whether GM will produce a seventh-generation Camaro.
I agree Sarah, GM (along with Ford and Dodge) needs to do a complete redesign on the Camaro (Mustang and Challenger) so it doesn't look like an old school musclecar. However, they're worried that the 40-50 year old men won't buy them if they look like a modern sports coupe.
The front of the Camaro has gone from nice retro to totally lost. It just looks...weird, just weird.
