Finally, toyota making something EXCITING again. I saw another review on this rig a couple months ago and it instantly went on my "if i was rich" list of cars to buy

I absolutely love this car! As I owned an older version of Corolla hatchback, They are always been an excellent car. This is what I love about Japanese engineering, a 3 cylinder produces over 300 hp and the fuel consumption is and always has been amazing! ❤❤❤❤❤
As a fan of the triumph triple I think it’s cool that they put a 3 cylinder engine in it👍 there’s just something about that burble and the pulse of a triple… I love it!
my favorite new car on the market. Toyota's knocking it out of the park right now. This, the LC500, and the GR 86 (of course the GR Yaris as well but we don't get that) are my favorite new cars.
I’ve been watching this channel for quite some time and that might be the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on your face, Sarah! The scores definitely reflect your driving reactions in that little machine of a car. Two 10s…Daaaaammmn, GET IT, GUUURRL! Lol
Im glad Sarah, said that the GR corolla and the Civic Type R have different purposes, yes they are similar but one is a track focused fwd track monster, the other is a force to be reckoned 3 cylinder master piece ready to dominate any surface it touches. Sadly though I think most of the GR Corollas may not even touch dirt, hopefully they do but I think owners mostly will track them and not use it’s full potiential. I think again sarah makes the exact reaction most of us had about the evo/sti. It revives the rally monster for the road kinda of class that mitsubshi and subaru was known for. Heck toyota came back to this class after the GT-4 celica from the 90’s im glad this sporty hot hatch class is so full of new and different offerings from hyundai, VW, toyota,Honda, and subaru hopefully i see Ford come back with RS models, and see if Nissan makes a crack at it too and hope the SR sentra comes back with a nismo version
Amazing. Just stumbled on your channel and you are thee best car reviewer I have ever come across. Great wit, engagingly entertaining while hosing out a ton of knowledge in a short time. Brilliant!
Talk about a dream car! And people say that there are no more real enthusiast cars anymore. Toyota really put a ton of thought into making this a real drivers car and nothing more. I really wish I could afford one right now. Amazing review, Sarah! Some might even say it was the greatest car review...in the woooorld!
Bravo Toyota and GR. This is getting a lot of love from enthusiasts who've tried it. Shocked that Toyota of all companies would build and sell such a thing.
I've been waiting for this one. You'll note the sound of the 3 cylinder, being half of a strait 6, is similar to that of a strait 6, much like an inline 5, being half of a V-10, is similar to that of a V10
Re why tires say Connect: the Track Connect® app provides personalized inflation recommendations and adjustments based on the track, vehicle, ambient weather conditions and driving style. It's like having a personal Michelin tire engineer with you every time you go to the track
I’ve wondered the same. I have a 1.5 liter Ecoboost 3 cylinder in my 2022 Ford Escape. It’s rated at 181 hp, and it’s surprisingly peppy for it’s size. The reviews that I’ve seen have been favorable for the most part. I’ve only got about 6,200 miles on it so far. I’ve been using Mobil One in all my vehicles now for several years, and I change the oil when my oil life drops below 20%.
Great review, Sarah! I'm intrigued by this machine. It'll be a long time before I could hope to afford anything like that, but if it goes well for Toyota, maybe we'll see the key features trickle down into the "normal" cars. Definitely makes the best case for a hydrogen-fired engine that I've seen, at least in a passenger car. 👍
I have a core with the performance and cold weather packages. It's basically the same as a circuit, but without leather seats and a carbon roof. It's an amazing car, and it just better the more you drive it. Having 50/50 and 30/70 as an option makes such a difference... And the breaks could suck your brain out of your nose. The Grolla is the funniest car I have had the pleasure of owning yet.
Hey Sarah, that was awesome! so cool, you got one and a Marizo to boot . of all your brake tests you have done, I’ve never heard one slightly lock up. Also might be the only car you’ve tested with cup 2s as very few cars, come with those from the factory, not exactly the greatest tire in the rain. I can’t believe how great that three cylinder sounded. Anyone who says it’s just a Corolla is crazy and I think it’s a steal especially at t list price for what it is and what it will be and I read somewhere the engine alone in a crate is about 15 K. Sarah You might not know this and Toyota might’ve not told you but the clutch has an interesting mechanism on it that applies constant pressure and compensates for wear throughout its whole life!
I was hoping the Yaris GR would make it to America but this Corolla version is as close to the Yaris version as it gets.. Thank you Sarah for confirming my thoughts & dreams on this car...
Love the Cummins sound comparison. Didn't even notice until you pointed it out. But it makes total sense. 3 cylinders have to run twice the RPM to sound the same as a big 6, and since diesels are low RPM engines, well... you get the point. Anyway, love the reviews!
i hope they remembered to remove the rubber coilover limiters before delivery. a lot of toyota dealerships forget to do that during pre-delivery service for the gr corollas.
The only thing I don't like about this model is that, at least from when I checked Toyota's site, when the Corolla GR was just a publicity stunt that was later explained to be released in incredibly small numbers (and less of something a regular person could actually buy) you could still buy the regular Corolla hatch at any trim with the 6-speed manual gearbox. I managed to get a salvage base model Corolla iM with a manual at auction for extremely cheap and build a fun car with it as a base. Now if you go to Toyota's site (and possibly this has been the case for a while, I hadn't checked since the first AWD Hatch came out as an attention getter rather than a real thing available to all), the only way to get a manual is to spend the noticeable sum more on the GR rather than any trim hatch. For what you get if you're buying new, it's a pretty solid hot hatch. But if you're like I was and wanting a cheap base model with a manual gearbox picked up salvage at an auction price for a build, you're SOL. At this point I would probably get a Veloster Turbo R-Spec with a manual gearbox if a cheap one pops up. To be fair I've also never bought anything I wanted as a sporty option new. I always buy something as a cheap base and build it how I want it to my fairly high standards of quality. If I had the money laying around, I'd probably just buy one of these, definitely over a GR86 since I have a thing for hot hatches and awd adds a ton of points.
You do the best reviews ..love it ANd I could not agree with your assessment more I just bought the GR and I love it. Yes, Michelin is embedding Bluetooth tags in some tires. They can be read from the side of a highway. Or, tell your dealership how old the tires are and whether you've rotated them. While they tell the service desk who just arrived.
Ah, finally the test I have been so looking forward to see - I knew this was spot-on your kind of car! And as someone who likes fun yet practical cars, with the rear seat gone, this is basically a WRC van (In some markets in the EU, small hachbacks like the Ford Fiesta, Peogeot 208 and Renault Zoe and such are sold without rear seats as micro vans!) - in other words the two things I look for in a car, combined!
