I purchased a 2001 C5 convertible in March. 33,500 miles, magnetic red, factory magnesium wheels, order sheet, window sticker, ect. Not a mark on it, floor mats over factory floor mats. Beautiful cars, a lot of bang for the buck. Enjoy!
Good info. As a reference, my stock 2003 C5 automatic runs right at 190 F (at speeds above 35 MPH). If I get stuck in California traffic, the temp will eventually rise to 230 F. But, as soon as traffic clears, the temp quickly drops back to 190 F. Before I installed the new radiator and cleaned the condenser, the Vette ran much hotter - closer to 245 F.
Picked up my 06 Convertible yesterday! lemans blue over titanium grey. Z51, chrome wheels (old school, but I'm older) and I think I may very much be in love!
I think if you haven't had any issues yet you'll be fine. I put in a 160 stat and had the fans programmed to come on sooner also. That made a hug difference here in Arizona. These cars are designed to run warmer then we are all use to, your temp seems right in line with how they have it from stock. 220 is nothing for these cars. I think I mentioned in your install video that I left my corner pieces off on the bottom because they don't really serve a purpose and I like the look without them. If I ever get rid of the splitter look then I'll put them back on. The center piece you have to leave on no matter what for the radiator cooling. Thanks for giving the update to any issues or lack there of.
@@OrthodoxGolf114 It should and I'd also get the fans programmed to come on sooner then what the factory has them set at. You'll need to find a tuner or get a handheld from some place to do that though.
I have the same exact car and front splitter. I put a 180° thermostat and the programmed my fans to come on cooler and it runs cool like im living in Alaska
This is a little off topic but. At the 3:22 mark in the video where you show the dashboard, I couldn’t help but notice your oil pressure at 80 psi with the engine turning only 2,200 rpm. Seems a little high at this rpm. Is this normal? Might there be an issue with the gauge or sending unit? I’ve never seen my 1999 C5 running that high an oil pressure. I’m not sure GM engines would have that high an oil pressure at full throttle on a dyno run. Just thought you might want to check. Looks like you’re in 4th gear @40 mph to be turning 2200 rpm. I’m going to test mine. I like your videos, well done!
@@TheDaviro47 did you “burp” it….. ? In the morning when the car is cold open the reservoir and start the car. Let it come up to temp you should see it cycle through this will also release any trapped air in the system…. It took a couple of times on mine…I have an 01Z06
If your car is lowered you WILL have cooling problems especially if you track the car. This design with the vents might be different but all others will keep your temps high. Guaranteed
I got my 02 C5 corvette convertible magnetic red metalic black leather interior weeks ago and i loved i star looking c4s but thanks to yours video's I end whit a beautiful c5😄😄😄😄✌
As you, corvettes are bottom feeders. Around town, not so much. But on the track, it will really show up. If you reroute your air flow, you can make it work. Changing the thermostat, will not make a difference. The radiator will eventually heat soak and the temp will rise. I took mine off, it ran cooler on track days without it.
no splitter here and I always run around 220. I have a aluminum dual pass radiator too, the high speed fans never turn on for me because the ECU is programmed with 220 within target operating temp...
Just bought a 98 torch red c5 48k miles matching red and black interior straight piped with headers I did pay 16k for it a little high maybe but boy is it cherry
My Corvette Life channel has a video of him just removing the fuel rails, and having small hands to replace his on his 98 coupe 6 spd...or drill a hole in the cowl...and plug it... there are videos of that too...lol
All you gotta do is loosen the intake and bring it forward... don’t have to take it all of the way off... the plug is a challenge but not impossible. Don’t have to pull injectors but will have to disconnect the fuel feed line. Don’t lose the clip and use the fuel line disconnect “plastic” piece. Cheap tool at harbor freight. I did mine in probably 40 min with a cool drink in between.
GM does run the LS engines hot. Normal for a C6 LS3 is 195 to 198 while moving and when sitting in traffic up to 220. Lots of internet data on what temp the fans come on and at what percent they come on at. I think the C5 Corvettes are similar.
Funny I installed one after seeing this video around town it was fine but as soon as I hit the expressway it shot up to 260 so now I'm stomped because I love the look but I can't drive my car
Did you really just say 70 degrees is still pretty warm hahahah.Come on down here to Mobile,AL.Another thing I would be shitting if mine got up to 220 while driving.Mine might get to 220 if I am sitting at a drive through a little to long.My 04 C5 when the outside temp says 90 to 100 degrees still while driving will not hit 200
I would advise any one looking to by any corvette that is 10+ years old to get a fixed roof vett. Bc more then likely your removable hardtop/t-top/targa tops are no longer made like my 01 that had the lexan come of the frame and now idk what to do
There is NO overheat after zr1 installed basically the is overheat already but must guys they don't notice that until they put the spoiler because they never clean the radiator .. l put zr1 the heat never go up . If the problem never fix than you need to 1 ..flush the radiator Or 2. Change the radiator to aluminium one Or 3 ..buy relay wireless control fan speed you turn fan to high speed from remote control... when you see the temperature high .... Or 4... drilling around the cover fog light 5 holes size 1" to make the air more going to radiator...if you don't like to drill than buy z06 fog light cover which is expensive..the best for air go through...
...3 must have mods for c5s...AirRaid intake, B &B Bullet exhaust, Magnaflow highflow cats...these mods will give you 40 hp, over 20 mpg average and some serious seat of the pants power..NO axle back exhaust sounds better than the Bullets...
I just bought a 2001 C5 convertible. 6 speed. 29,583 miles. $17,000. 2 owner car that is flawless. I mean flawless.
Got mine...magnetic red 2 weeks ago, 56k on it. Finally got my dream car...absolutely love this damn thing, and it pulls hard considering 2.73s lol

Just got a 2002 auto. 315 with z51. Two owner with 52k on it.
Went from a 2015 evo x to a ‘97 c5 with 58k miles. I’m loving it :). Drive Hub has been an awesome resource too :)
Congrats on your purchase, man.
Scotty Kilmer called, He wants his glasses back!

My 2002 to do the same thing man to 220 to 230 for a few minutes and then drop down to normal temperature is totally normal
That is what mine is running rn. It is 115 degrees here, but I need to cool my car down lol.
Love your channel brotha! I’m also from New Hampshire. If you haven’t already I highly recommend taking the Vette on a 1A cruise 😎

If/When you get it tuned, they'll lower the fan temps and the temps will be much lower. I rarely run over 190, even in stop and go traffic.

I put a 160* in mine

his sensor is out. super common on the ls1
How much did that front splinter cost you
what’s the model of that screen radio on your c5?
Thanks for the update. I wasn’t going to buy one for my C5 until I heard if yours made your C5 overheat or not. Keep up the great work!!!!
Get a 160* t stat
This won’t stop it from overheating dumbass, swapping to a 160 degree thermostat just cycles the coolant quicker. You need airflow to cool it!!

Yep, I noticed that to, the dic probably reads 131 psi, like my 04 Z06...has he addressed the service active handling message too?...lol

Tracking my car hope it doesn't overheat, as it generally runs pretty warm as it is.
Normal operating temperature should be around 180-200. Just under 220 seems kind of high. Maybe you should invest in a better radiator and thermostat.
