    Thank you so much for including my dreamy "country" system. It truly pales in comparison to the other exquisite hi-end systems but in the end it's all about what makes you a happy listener. Being the sole lady in this bunch, I do hope to see more women's systems - our numbers maybe fewer but our passion for the sound & music is just as strong!

      I loved the photo of the cat! Mine like to sit with me on the sofa, but I don't think I would have any luck getting them to pose with the system. One of them does like to sit on the dust cover of the turntable occasionally which, needless to say, I don't encourage. I was also surprised to see at least two systems with statues of Nipper the dog (I don't think it was a real dog).

    In the final quiet set of systems, one really caught my eye at 16:22. Looked like a vintage Garrard turntable sitting on a large sub-woofer! 😳 It reminded of "West Side Story"..."There's gonna be a rumble tonight" 😄

    • @SteveG325
      @SteveG325 3 года назад

      I’m responsible for that one, but that’s not the normal placement of components , the Garrard usually sits in an enclosed and ventilated cabinet below the fisher, not on the sub. And speakers are much further apart. I had too pull things together for the photo session, I explained this to Steve in my email, but since I made the quiet segment, everybody is like wtf.. lol. 😹.

    Great set-ups and video, and thanks for including mine, Steve (from 8:06). It seems the more "mature" segment of audiophiles are indeed very much into horns, although a more selective stamp on the part of the editor may be at display as well ;) Those MicroWrecker subs of mine are 15"-loaded tapped horns, btw. - an invention of Tom Danley's (patented at that, but the DIY'ers are given free reign to make their own developments of this principle). At 20 cf. per sub they aren't small, but take a listen to the Apollo 11 take-off sequence in the 50th anniversary documentary 'Apollo 11' Blu-ray, and the physics part doesn't escape itself (interestingly Mr. Danley worked with NASA prior to his pro speaker endeavors). In addition to brute force they deliver very "musical," smooth and effortless bass - more so than any smaller, typically cube-shaped subs I've heard. Size and horn-loading matters with subs and speakers, but not always in the direction one would necessarily expect..

    Admittedly, I am not an audiophile. My interest is in music recording and mixing. Nevertheless I am surprised by how few of these listening rooms employ any acoustic treatment whatsoever. @@kloss213 Gigantic horn speakers, bet they pack a punch! The mid and high frequencies from the horn drivers the sound waves will still behave similar to conventional driver speakers.
      You will need acoustic absorption or diffusion panels at the main and secondary reflection points on the walls. That's only if you actually want to get the best performance out of speakers and the room.
      As Charles previously said the actual room accounts for a good percentage of the sound quality from any speakers. Some reflections are good but not a room with all bare walls.
      I've got cement walls too and have just recently hung up several absorbers and diffusers at the main and secondary reflection points. It's a night and day difference to the sound performance.

    I had to know. The chrome headphone amp at 10:00 mark in Adrian from Tokyo's setup is an E.A.R. HP4 designed by Tim de Paravicini. I haven't seen one before. I'm intrigued...
