My previous home electricity was coming from a nuclear plant but after some research I switched to a diesel generator. After more research I discovered coal fired electric a purer , more consistent signal. it must be small coal lumps that can only be efficiently mined by the small hands of Chinese children. I am currently in audio heaven. IT WAS WORTH IT.
I prefer renewables for a much more organic self satisfying sound, I can only listen on days when it's sunny or windy but it's worth it
Lol
"You can almost hear the difference of that ....easily". Such an interesting statement...loved the tour, such an amazing space filled with wonderous gear.
this was the statement that kills it for me. I mean i'm an audiophile, and i'm fairly fussy, but not to anything like this level!
I made my entire house into a Faraday Cage, and the foundation is on air bearings. I also had the house rotated such that there is symmetry with my system and the earth’s magnetic field.
All joking aside, beautiful system. The tweaking and small targeted improvements is part of the hobby. Replacing coupling caps, upgrading drivers, etc. is part of the fun for me. Hope to make some of my own components from classic designs when I retire.
Sad thing is after watching this video and the extreme lengths people would go to in search of perfection, I was actually questioning if you were serious or not haha
Don't forget that for optimum sound, you need to have your turntable itself on another platter which rotates it slowly over the course of the day to account for the Coriolis effect's influence on total RPM
I know if I could do the things you mentioned I would but I can’t so I won’t .
No, after a point it's just useless money wasting insanity.
Michael, this was great. I have followed you for decades and remember your modest system of the past, which has morphed into an edge of the art system. Thanks for your contributions to this great hobby we share!
Mr. Fremer has spent his life assembling this amazing listening room. I hope one day someone inherits this entire collection, keeps it together, and adds another lifetime to it, making it bigger and better.
Nope. You have to enjoy the journey, the experience and the result. The stuff itself is just stuff which may or not endure.
he said : this is just the beginning!
"You can almost hear the difference of that.. easily" describes all of todays hi end audio.
Always awesome to see people’s systems at this level and it’s fascinating listening to backstory behind a lot of decisions.
"'Electric has been treated to the best upgrades for the house. Now comes the outcome of the sound part...I'm playing old fashioned records so no upgrade at all and still plenty of crackles and pops coming through. The electricity is at it's best now which means the static and imperfections are even more audible which is fantastic!!" 😆👍
Love your room. It’s like a candy store with candy that’s good for you. Your enthusiasm is infectious.
One of the best videos I've ever seen. Fremer, you're such an interesting guy, and humble when others wouldn't be. Love it.
Thanks for sharing so much of what you do, Michael. Much appreciated. I had a wonderful time watch this video.
Thank you Fremer you are a treasure
Great video Michael, really appreciate your smooth delivery and what a collection 👌
I loved your system review, and your right life is to short! Enjoy your system and life!
Really enjoyed this walk through your room Michael and the stories are always funny and entertaining.
Wow thanks Michael for letting us to take a peek. Truly great system
Loved the presentation, always love to see what you have.
It was a very good tour of your listening room and I enjoyed the gear and stories! Thanks for sharing!
Now, that's what I'm talking about, Michael!!! A big old.....hunk a hunk of burning love of a pair of incredible Wilson speakers!!! I love it.
Always entertaining. Always an Education. All of it! Thanks.
Loved every minute of this. Nice tour ✌🏻
OMG Animalympics!!! I ADORED that movie. Subscribed:):)
Love this video and your stories. It was a big pleasure and emotion to meet you in Munich this may
Beautiful over the top system, lucky man.
Thanks for an enjoyable hour in visiting your listening room and the amazing equipment. Your enthusiasm and dedication to this hobby and industry is heart warming!
This is just amazing !!
This was fantastic. Thank you for what you do for the hobby and for music in general. And…thsnk you for introducing me to The album Lori Lieberman Truly
What an incredible commitment to hifi!!! Really impressive.
May you have a long and healthy life, Michael! Your work brings joy to a lot of people.
Fun and fascinating. Amp and speakers to die for.
Mike is the essence why I love high end hifi. Thanks for a really good video.
Excellent video- thanks for sharing
I’m not a vinyl guy but i found this very interesting and i appreciate Mr Fremers knowledge, passion and sense of humour. His thinking on buying the Wilsons and enjoying life while you can resonates as i balance lifes day to day costs with my desire for an MSB dac.
Digital music all has a high frequency noise overlaying the whole signal
@@jm_1214That statement is not true. What you have in mind is fact that many cheap or rather I should say poorly designed transports (optical, streaming, etc) and DACs can have some glare audible but there are available (some much less avail. than other, like Pacific Microsonics) some very fine devices that renders digital music in a very analogue and pleasant way.
Love it. LOL. Good and interesting presentation. Thank you for sharing
Great story about Brian Wilson! How cool is it to give him some joy and solace during a terrible chapter in his life. You earned your halo that day. One thing though - Analog Productions says that both their mono and stereo 45/33 are mastered by Kevin Gray from *the original master tapes.* So either something has changed (don't know about previous versions), they're lying, or you're mistaken. I'd be interested in a follow up. I have the _OG_ Carl and the Passions, and it seems to me the new pressing is better than my (admittedly well worn) version. BTW, when building my house 20 years ago, dedicated wiring just for the electronics in the listening room made perhaps the greatest difference I've had in my years of system building.
What a fascinating individual. I can’t say what he’s like in person but here his personality is of man who strives for excellence in a completely unpretentious manner. He made equipment I can’t afford to even look at very interesting and relatable , actually let me say this = for myself he just made the completely foreign world of high end audio completely palatable. That’s something special because no one else has even came close to doing that for me . For individuals like me there’s Steve whom I love and respect and immensely appreciate, but Mr. Fermer? Wow, this is an interesting man and someone I intend to listen to more of.
Keep making history Mike, it goes to prove nothing beats listening.
You're absolutely correct about the time we haven't got.
You're a great guy fixing that turntable for Brian Wilson. I always enjoy your content.
Always enjoy reading your articles.
Nice presentation Michael! Especially the part about the $$$$ you can’t take with you! Live a long life and enjoy the music!
What fascinating stories and what a killer system!
Once you have all the ultimate pieces... Things like your hydro are the limiting factor of getting all that you can out of your system. Well done!! I hope that I have a budget for this someday. I still love my setup but I would hand it down to my son and upgrade once I know that I can do it right.
a larger speaker is actually good for a small room bc the sound will be like a line-array taking the room acoustic out.
You talk silly
Mike is certainly a great story teller. I especially enjoyed part about Brian Wilson. I also happen to be running DUAL, though mine is a 1229. Happy to hear I'm in some amazing company.
Who else is here just to read comments 🙋🏻♂️😅
Michael is just getting high on his own exhaust.
This was an extremely enjoyable video! More content with Fremer please!
Interesting video. You have a great voice by the way. Thank for the content.
Fantastic many thanks
This collection is treasure, just like Michael.
The induction motor is not new, it was introduced by B&O in 1982 with the Beogram 8002.
Thanks for an insight into your hifi system, really impressive
Two Big thumbs up for the Brian Wilson story and getting Wendy Carlos the Tron gig!
Just watched the first two minutes had to laugh -hum for 10 years or whatever oh boy-hey great stuff. Thanks for sharing. You’re real cool guy Mike for going out on a limb. I appreciate that. I agree with the pet sounds art direction absolutely horrible. Brilliant antidote about Keith Emerson that’s the dichotomy of an artist you make music you don’t per se hear it or see it well eventually you do but that’s my point. Mike you expand my mind.
You have some serious equipment. I would love to come and visit...
Enjoy in good health.
There are 1000 so little things that make „a big difference“ for him. Sounds very esoteric to me.
Michael, you are a great guy! I have always respected you because you are kind and have integrity.
Wow, that Brian Wilson story, WOW! Love the system Michael. You inspire me, your passion is beyond compare.
HI nice to meet you I come from Macau, your set up and collections are so amazing, as you said life is too short so seize the day
Love the stories!
Great video, Michael! Thanks for showing all your wonderful equipment, records, and all other great stuff..............👍
Outstanding video - thanks. I was highly entertained for all 54 minutes. I never thought you would replace your beloved SAT tonearm.
I neglected to mention that the OMA fits a second arm. It will be a 12” SAT. I still own the 9” but it won’t fit on the OMA because of the oversized platter..
Awesome video.
An amazing system that very few could afford but perhaps aspire to in their audio dreams. I like what you said about buying what you covet being that life is so short, a reality that those of a certain age can relate to. Of course, that applies to all manor of passions, be it audio, bikes, cars, guns, houses, et al.
We have been using the same vinyl concept for over 100 years now. Its time to leap ahead and make a better system so we can enjoy our music instead of laboring so much with it.
If your a newbie watching this, Turntables are an ongoing headache and will never sound as good as digital music. You will be chasing your tail for eternity. Please just upload all your cds to your laptop as flac files, connect the laptop to a Chinese DAC costing £150 (smsl c200), connect the DAC to an amp with some form of room correction (Dirac) and get a pair of speakers to suit the size of your room. Add a sub or two for some icing on the cake. You'll be looking at around £2000 for a bang up to date system that sounds amazing. Thanks.
Michael all I want for Christmas is to be your beneficiary to receive this room when you no longer want it or can use it. That being said, may you live forever! Because, having your experience and willingness to share it with us is worth more than any million dollar Audiophile room . Thanks for sharing, this is a room to die for.
I love the Talking Heads Speaking in Tongues poster.
I have the same print framed and hanging from my listening room's wall.
Just WOW!
Wow, Michael, this sounds effortless. I'm so glad that you fought the good fight for us Vinyl lover's and you have been fully vindicated after others gave up.
Your history and experience in this industry is vast, and your comedic timing is brilliant. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic.
Epic video
“This is my last loudspeaker”. Noted🥳
Can't afford the mighty XVX but took your advice to raid the pension fund for the Alexia V. You're so right, YOLO! Thanks for sharing.
Alexia is a dream in its own right, for most of us: enjoy.
Great video Mike. I remember you from WBCN back in the day . I caught one of your stand ups in a small , smokey club which I cannot recall the name . I think it was around 75? I still have your comedy album ! Take care.
You are so good that you can hear the difference between wind power and solar power coming into your system.
Awesome!
Fantastic video, as usual a wealth of knowledge. It’s nice to see Mikey in his natural environment.
'Ole Audiophile to Mr. Fremer, sir: I was beginning to believe how diametrically opposed we seemed to be about audio specifics that we shared little in common. This production did much to bustup that notion. It was about what you said far more than the gear you displayed that gently persuaded me into a form of agreement. The comment about blowing the big bucks in our dire years went straight to the heart. As you sat there diddling on about casually driving a one ohm load or lower, my bullshit meter clicked off making me the sheepish goatherder for a day. Thanx for straighting me up about you.
Pure analogue system 👍👍👍
Those Wilson's are epic!
B&O had induction turntables decades ago. I have still got one
FYI The Stones 'Sticky Fingers' was released in Canada with the T.M.L. on the lead out grooves, in this case, both sides. I've had one since "71.
You're speakers are one of the best in the word .and they are beathyfull
💕💕💕 Love it
Regarding electricity, you are absolutely right. I can hear a huge difference between 7pm and let’s say 2am listening sessions.
Glad you're back with The Absolute Sound! I loved the Brian Wilson story! The only band that I have seen more than The Beach Boys is Jimmy Buffett, since I'm in South Florida and a Parrot Head! Cheers! 😁
I am an electrical engineer and won’t burn my tongue here :-)
Very interesting! The audio system sounds transparent with almost zero distortion 👍🏻
You mean you have actually HEARD it? 😮
Love itttttt..
Greatly appreciated this post looking forward to the next one.
Didn't know you had returned to The Absolute Sound. Regardless, where ever you review audio systems, you are audiophile royalty in my book. Thanks for 36 years (and counting) of excellent -and intellectual- audio entertainment! BTW, Nice upgrade with the speakers!
Cool, accomplished perfectly.
Interesting system. I can't quite comprehend how having 10 metres of new copper cable from the top of your house to your meter, actually reverses any negative effect from "terrible sounding aluminium cable" when the other hundreds and hundreds of metres that electricity is traveling to your house in is still old aluminium. Electricity doesn't really give much of a stuff what it's being run through it just goes from a to b no dramas.
Thecgrounding issue might have merit but I agree on the wire. All high end audio equipment should be run on DC battery power. Remove all AC remote power generation from the equation.
You are worthy of envy! Congratulations!
Nice tour :)
I appreciate that Michael provided a sound demonstration. It sounds good. Of course not like being in that chair, but you can certainly tell hear relative strengths from these RUclips domo clips.
No you can't, unless your phone is as good as his system.
@@UlfilasNZ I fully understand appreciate your logic, but you can get clues to what it sounds like and the strengths and weaknesses. I record my own system just using a current Samsung phone and upload it to YT. Now I have a benchmark. I know what mine sounds like in real life and I know what it sounds like played back on headphones with all the losses associated with the recording and playback on inferior tech.
I don’t understand turntable fetishes. Discs used to be important but almost all fabulous performances in the last 40 years have been captured digitally and that’s the technology I love. The golden age of vinyl was only two or three decades and I’m just not that nostalgic for it.
Mr. Fremer is the one of true gems that shines a healing light. Pure wisdom pores from this big boy's mouth. His wicked humour and the rich flavour of his intricate stories are his trademarks. Kind regards from tormented Serbia.
Hi, Michael. I will recommend a Reader’s Digest set titled Scheherazade:Rhapsodic Mood Music. As was usual with RD sets, this one was manufactured by RCA from their own recordings. I was surprised by the quality of the recordings and pressings: perfectly silent surfaces, excellent clarity, air, definition, dynamics. I bought a completely new sealed set in stereo.
The Absolute Sound is VERY smart to have gotten Mike back!! Michael is the foremost authority on vinyl, turntables and all things analog and has been for a long time as far as i'm concerned.. but please, DO NOT give him a guitar and let him sing.
Wow I would love to just sit down with you and hear all your stories. You are the real deal. Thats why other people on here try to put you down because they can't come close. You probably have forgotten more stuff than that guy in Arizona will ever know. I mean who hangs out with Brian Wilson? Oh thats right you did, incredible!
