The second song is actually Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, although the intro does sound a lot like Saucer Full of Secrets. Thanks for uploading, this is probably the best version of Cymbaline, one of my top 5 Floyd songs.
@@JD-tr8lq Of course the second song is Set the Controls. It says so right in the listing and in no way does it resemble Saucerful of Secrets, though this period of their's has very long, not so exiting songs.
@@lespaul5628 Yes, NOW it says Set the Controls, but notice the (edited) notation in the original post, originally it said Saucerful of Secrets. In my opinion it does sound a lot like Saucerful of Secrets, specifically the percussion at the start of the song, which is why I believe it was incorrectly tagged as such initially. Your opinion clearly differs on this, as mine also differs from yours on the "very long, not so exciting songs" comment. I love most (but not all) of their early stuff as well as DSOTM and beyond. David Gilmour is one of those guitarists that found his sound rather early and never expanded on it. It's like he felt this is the best it gets and left it at that. He seemed to peak at an early age and was satisfied with his playing from thereon. And I mean that as a compliment. His sound has never changed and it makes him quite unique in many respects. He's as amazing now in his 70s as he was then in his 20s.
Yes I get that you mean this positively but there is development - from Atom and Meddle to DSOTM there is a huge influence from soul, funk and reggae then through to the wall and FC there are influences from metal and disco. There were sounds on The Endless River that seemed to have been influenced by ambient house etc
Kind of disagree, not only did his sound change , it had to. different pedals, different delays etc, Dark Side to Animals is completely different, Animals to the Wall etc
Utterly ridiculous to say that his sound never changed. Listen to all his solo work, and all his work with pink floyd and you may find one of the most musically diverse musicians to have ever lived.
There are probably 10 guitarist that I could recognize no matter what they played. Gilmour had/has his own signature sound that doesn't resemble any other guitarist or style that I know. He can express emotion and thought on a whole nother level. And he does it so seemingly effortlessly. I don't mean technically effortless, I mean the way it sounds. I apparently can't come up with the words to explain what I'm trying to say lol.
Wrong. Gilmour has several sounds, and has changed several times. Until 70/71, his sound is a Fuzz Face and an Echo (Binson Echored) Between 72 and 75 he now adds a Uni Vibe, or a Phaser, in addition to using the Leslie effect. It also adds a Drive pedal, the Colorsound. Between 76 and 83 he changes his sound to a Big Muff, exchanges Phaser for Flanger (Eletric Misstress) and exchanges Echored for a normal Delay. It also starts to use Compressor. In 84 he started using Boss Heavy Metal and started using Chorus. Between 86 and 90 he also uses Proco Rat as a distortion but he also used the Big Muff Soviet. Today his sound is based much more on a Drive pedal (Tube Drive) than on the Big Muff itself. To say that he doesn't change his sound is to ignore Gilmour.

I Love Early Pink Floyd...I Love All that Pink Floyd has performed, and entertained us with. David Gilmore Rick Wright Roger Waters Nick Mason Syd Barrett
Trinitarian Played on many tracks. Was in Daves band before he was in floyd. He was there at the beginning, at trinity house backing the tea set with dave and jokers wild.
I went to a couple of Pink Floyd concerts in the 70's -- I remember (barely) tickets were a CRAZY $7 (Seven) when all the other bands cost $4 (Four) ... I thought it was WAY too much....but I went -- I saw the UMMA GUMMA and the DARK SIDE OF THE MOON concerts -- BLEW ME AWAY --- I can still see the stage explode in light and smoke
Seeing Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets twice last year reaffirmed my faith in live Pink Floyd, who I had not seen as a full band since 1975 (Wish you were here tour). Nick and his mates pulled it off extremely well. I have seen various incarnations of Floyd since then, as well as Roger and David solo, all good but they never quite measure up. Nick's suite of If/Atom Heart Mother/If at their tour opener in Stockholm last September had tears running down my cheeks it was so beautifully and movingly performed. Hats off to Nick for making this tour of the pre-DSOTM material we all worship come to light before we all die. Going to see them tonight in Cambridge - their home town - and I am effing pleased as can be! We all know its going to be a real treat.
Atom Heart Mother was a truly brilliant album- very undertated. I saw them do it in Manchester UK at the FTH with a full orchestra - for an encore, ( at my request) they played the last 5 minute again. It was so good.
I have a fucking enormous crush on David Gilmour and have for years. I consider him to be one of the two sexiest figures in all of rock alongside Robert Plant.. thank you so much for uploading this 😍

First heard Pink Floyd in 1978, Dark Side of the Moon, bought every album I could. Love them, they’re the best! David Gilmore is the best guitarist hands down, and the most under rated.
@Lo louloulo : My sincere condolences. May your dad rest in peace and his memory be a comfort and a strength for you throughout your life, as he will continue to live within you.
Manny B funny you should mention the Doors, because I hear a slight Doors influence in this clip! Along with some Hendrix sounding riffs as well. Not surprising though. All the musicians in that late sixties early seventies time frame moved in the same musical circles and fed off each other’s energy.
Floyd, yes, Doors not so much. Morrison was too unpredictable onstage. You never knew which one you’d get. Hendrix could be that way too, but even Hendrix on an average night was still a better guitarist than anyone else around
hey..David did do some male modelling before being asked to formally join floyd..they all went to tech college together and some knew each other as far back as primary school
Floyd music is simply soulful. It's peaceful, tranquil and makes you think. Im thankful to have expose my son to them as well. Their music is my church..
I love the hippy vintage vibes coming across is this retro vintage hippy vibe music. Todays music just doesn’t have this vintage hippy vibe that I love. I love the hippy vintage vibe here
Everybody forgets they started as a 'mod' band in the 60s with hits like Arnold Lane and See Emily Play then they discovered L26...and really branched out. I saw them play loads of times. Being English it was cheap and easy to see them when I was growing up. I am now 70 and can honestly say the Floyd, The Who etc gave me some of my best best times in my life. 22:28
Just imagine if we had the whole DSOTM show from 1973 Atlanta (they opened with Obscurred by Clouds When you're in) - in this quality sight and sound. Far out, man!
This footage is great! All memories from early 70´s are back when music were progressive and fantastic and one of the greatest were Pink Floyd alongside with King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Gong, Flash, ELP, Greenslade etc......

Thank you so much for uploading all these wonderful videos! This is especially one of my favorite Floyd eras: the “Syd’s gone, what do we do now?” period where they really played with complex arrangements, longer pieces, and more abstract ideas.
Thank you so much for sharing rare live footage of these early years! I have some incredibly rare photos conversing with them after their concert in ‘71 that I’ll never part with...
Great to see a bit of footage of RW using their Azimuth Coordinator, a long "joystick" for manipulating their quadraphonic sound round & round and back & forth=revolutionary, literally. Looks like a 1960s MG stick shift in a box. AMAZING sound effect live, especially in a large, spatial environment. Saw them at the Cow Palace just south of SF, CA just prior to the release of DSOTM. That, the rotating Leslie speakers, Echorec(s) and the few other effects they bought or invented(there really weren't many back then), and their inherent talent amounted to, well, all fans know. Thank God for PF and for recording equipment! Mozart should have been so lucky as to record! Remember, to, this was all done pre-synthesizers. Hammond organs are so very fine and versatile. Peter Watts was their "on the road Roadie" ("official" title forgotten by my grey matter) up until about this time. He had a lot to do with their concert sound, but quit about then, when they got BIG with DSOTM. Died a couple years later of a H OD unfortunately. Triva: he was Naomi Watts' father. PF, to their credit, donated a chunk of cash to his widow, even though he was not in their employ for 2+yrs. He's shown on the back of the Ummagumma album with their equipment. Soon after, that gear was stolen(all was recovered except their axes. I bought the same Strat as that was what DG played (didn't help my playing-ha)...then enters the Black Strat. Too much said...Aloha!
When a new young band plays in gigs their 3-4 albums,in lovely long sets of approximately 2 hours and more, then surely it sounds repetitive...cause its the same 20 songs they play,hahaha...seems kind of logic to me and man,how i love this early 20 songs ! Their distinctive sound was as unique as Tangerine Dream or Greatful Dead...or Kraftwerk and a lot of inspired bands of the 70ies...!!! We would miss it desperately if they didnt exist, cause their music walked along with us...the soundtrack of a lifetime,of now more than 3 generations ! Good to have 'em ! Love to see more of that stuff, amigo, thanks for that great videocompilation ;)
Gracias por compartir esta joya..me perdi en el tiempo..afortunadamente. Que hermoso Gilmour❤ Con su estilo Unico. Pink Floyd la mejor banda de todos los tiempos❤❤❤❤❤ GRACIASSSSSSS
Yes one can absolutely feel high "without drugs", especially listening to Pink Floyd. That said, don't knock the experience of being very very stoned and listening to Pink Floyd. Such an experience has it's own validity, most certainly.
Yeps, I whole-heartedly agree with you all. I would be a liar to say I didn't know this was absolutely true from personal experience. In the end, balance is what makes the journey work best. Don't get me wrong though, that balance is not attained in the same way for everyone. For some people, drugs are just not a good idea, and on the flip side, some who have a bias towards them are sometimes those who could benefit the most.
If I had a time machine I would travel Back in the 70s so that I could just go to all the Pink Floyd and rolling stone concerts! Man back in THOES days must have been fun
Well done! Very nice selection! I miss Embryo which is very representative of this era. The title though should be more like "early 70s" or "pre-dark side" -- all the classical Floyd output is from the 1970s.

My friends & I were vegetarians, anti-war artists and musicians against greed, politics & a society that abused people. I think the Floyd saw us as young philosophers and activists who had something to say about what we believed in. We talked about all of these subjects in addition to touching on Syd Barrett who Roger told us was living with his mother. Such amazing gentlemen especially David who was my young teenage heart throb and still is after all these years lol Their music helped me to get through my challenging growing up years!

this is amazing. there aren't any words to accurately describe pink floyd and the impact and legacy they have worldwide. their music will live forever.
these guys are light years away from everyone else
🙏Thank you for this priceless live recordings of my favourite band! Cimbaline is so deserving to be an opening song and David Gilmour is deserving to be called the best guitarist of all times. Love and light🌸 the heart of the Sun💜
I Love Early Pink Floyd...I Love All that Pink Floyd has performed, and entertained us with.
David Gilmore
Rick Wright
Roger Waters
Nick Mason
Syd Barrett
kyle wolfe Gilmour
kyle wolfe honourable mention to Snowy White for the "Dogs" guitar harmonies on the animals tour !!!
And Dick Parry
Trinitarian
Played on many tracks.
Was in Daves band before he was in floyd. He was there at the beginning, at trinity house backing the tea set with dave and jokers wild.
To be honest I only came on this thread to confirm some idiot would be correcting the spelling of Gilmour.
I consider him to be one of the two sexiest figures in all of rock alongside Robert Plant.. thank you so much for uploading this 😍
Same.
Same - 2nd to me would be Ben Orr from the Cars
have my big screen tv and sound system with this playing at near full volume . its 1 am and loud knocking at my door, damn i am thinking its the police to tell me to turn it down, haha its a neighbor saying the music is incredible, and asks if he can join in and brings beer over and a little green to smoke, thank you hdpinkfloyd !
Pinky Floyd I wish my neighbors were like yours hahaha
Been there!!!!!!! THAT is what life is all about! cheers
Just invite your neighbors again when you open that tv
when it comes to Pink Floyd we are all united!
Many thanks for your comment. I'm rolling on the floor laughing. :-D
First heard Pink Floyd in 1978, Dark Side of the Moon, bought every album I could. Love them, they’re the best! David Gilmore is the best guitarist hands down, and the most under rated.
Yet you can't even spell his name correctly. Pfffft. 😑
this is a pure example of a chemistry in one band. Not to mention amazing songwriting
Right person for the right job all the way
My dad died 2 weeks ago. I won't ever know if he were in St Tropez for this masterpiece but we lived 30km from the at the time ... Rip daddy !
*from there
Lo louloulo sorry for your lost!
@Lo louloulo : My sincere condolences. May your dad rest in peace and his memory be a comfort and a strength for you throughout your life, as he will continue to live within you.
Really wish I was around to witness the Doors and Pink Floyd live
Manny B funny you should mention the Doors, because I hear a slight Doors influence in this clip! Along with some Hendrix sounding riffs as well. Not surprising though. All the musicians in that late sixties early seventies time frame moved in the same musical circles and fed off each other’s energy.
Floyd, yes, Doors not so much. Morrison was too unpredictable onstage. You never knew which one you’d get. Hendrix could be that way too, but even Hendrix on an average night was still a better guitarist than anyone else around
My two all time fave bands
Thank you. This is the classic 4-piece Pink Floyd I was lucky enough to see & hear many times. They were absolutely stunning live.
David Gilmore so gorgeous here...could've been a male model. They're all so very talented..& one of the best classic rock bands ever!
David Jon GILMOUR please
Thank you very much!
hey..David did do some male modelling before being asked to formally join floyd..they all went to tech college together and some knew each other as far back as primary school
So happy to have found this. Thankyou for the post. I can never have enough of the earlier sounds, they are so meditative. Love this band. Cheers!
Just imagine if we had the whole DSOTM show from 1973 Atlanta (they opened with Obscurred by Clouds When you're in) - in this quality sight and sound. Far out, man!
Anthony Nolan ; no doubt that periods version's of "Obscured.." rocked hard ,what a great riff !
i had Echoes in Live at Pompeii on list but RUclips Blocked the upload, sorry to say !
GODDAMMIT, RUclips. 😡😡😡😬😬😬
That's a shame since that's the best version of the best Pink Floyd song ever!
It's on Vimeo!!! The full original theatrical cut
There is an upload of that on VidMe I think or maybe one of the other sites. I think Echoes Live at Pompeii is around somewhere on RUclips hey.
Yes, it IS on Vimeo you are right!
This footage is great! All memories from early 70´s are back when music were progressive and fantastic and one of the greatest were Pink Floyd alongside with King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Gong, Flash, ELP, Greenslade etc......
Glad the early stuff is getting the attention it deserves early Floyd was extraordinary and with great moments of inspired improv
I was lucky enough to not only see floyd sept. 23 1970 in Santa monica, but was out back with my brother in law and asked if they needed help and helped them fill at the time was 2 tractor trailers of eqipt. even the GONG. Big deal for a 19 year old, what memoris. thanks.
What an honor!!
guy bross ...as a long time roadie and sound engineer, (not for Floyd, I’ve never had that honour, but some other pretty big names) I can tell you that every extra pair of hands is a very welcome addition! Not only do you get a great experience, and a cool story, I get to go to bed with a slightly less aching back! ...LOL... :)
I was at that show at the Civic. First of many times seeing them. A great performance that changed my life.
That’s awesome my friend.
@@lianelopez4381 Yeah Liane, that was quite a year, after loading the trucks went to party in Santa Monica with everybody and stayed on the road for a year and roaded for Lynyrd Skynard,Ry Codder, and Willy Nelson. What I can remember is all good. Lots of stories, was going to write a book. Never did, oh well. Thanx Guy B.
Thank you so much for uploading all these wonderful videos! This is especially one of my favorite Floyd eras: the “Syd’s gone, what do we do now?” period where they really played with complex arrangements, longer pieces, and more abstract ideas.
Si yo también extraño mi. Pelo largo y es puro oro
Solo vivimos recapitulación es( jim Morrison) la música como arte
Thank you so much for sharing rare live footage of these early years! I have some incredibly rare photos conversing with them after their concert in ‘71 that I’ll never part with...
The greatest band EVER in my mind wish they would have another concert together I would be there in a heartbeat
Saw Floyd the first time at The Fillmore East in 1969. Wonderful show, Saucerful of Secrets.
These guys, just can't get enough of Pink Floyd. Wish they would release some of this stuff and other footage on Ultra HD bluray!
This has to be the most beautiful song ever by Pink Floyd!! Cymboline so perfect ❤ a vintage treasure 😅
Finally all the great songs in one easy to find place, haha this is my heaven
Excellent pot of Gold , fine collection Thanks made my day !
Indeed.
63 years old and how I miss concerts like this :(
He was such a badass and he didn't even know it yet
Mason or Wright?
this is the soul of PINK FLOYD, i love hear such song in desert inside the big sky and light of stars and moon
I cant say how much i love pink floyd
Pink Floyd on my pods while walking through Costco and singing along. It's a no wait checkout.
The Black Strat looking young! Little did they know it would make nearly $4mil
thats always in the back of my mind - instruments were made good or not at all then
That Black Strat"made" a lot more than 4M. It sold for almost that, but the albums, the concerts...wow
"mil" 😂😂😂😂
I absolutely love the echo effects Richard does at the end
Cymbaline is such a great an underrated song!
Roger Waters: "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun".... mysterious, irresistible, beautiful….
Oh my god this is amazing footage !! Thank you 🙏🏼❤️
Gracias por compartir esta joya..me perdi en el tiempo..afortunadamente.
Que hermoso Gilmour❤
Con su estilo Unico.
Pink Floyd la mejor banda de todos los tiempos❤❤❤❤❤
GRACIASSSSSSS
thank you my friend for upload. The more time goes the more i love this band
david gilmour was incredibly good looking. still is.
Yes he is. That beautiful smile and that mouth!
Not sure why I never realized that until now, but I guess I was too young at the time. I would have been a total groupie had I known. Hottie McTottie.
Feel high without drugs thats the point
simo simohamed EXACTLY!!😂😂😂🐶 YOU DONT NEED DRUGS WHEN YA HAVE PINK FLOYD 😂
Yes one can absolutely feel high "without drugs", especially listening to Pink Floyd. That said, don't knock the experience of being very very stoned and listening to Pink Floyd. Such an experience has it's own validity, most certainly.
I'm high and tipsy listening to this and it's a pretty enlightening experience
Yeps, I whole-heartedly agree with you all. I would be a liar to say I didn't know this was absolutely true from personal experience. In the end, balance is what makes the journey work best. Don't get me wrong though, that balance is not attained in the same way for everyone. For some people, drugs are just not a good idea, and on the flip side, some who have a bias towards them are sometimes those who could benefit the most.
Thats the blessing of psychedelia.
If I had a time machine I would travel Back in the 70s so that I could just go to all the Pink Floyd and rolling stone concerts! Man back in THOES days must have been fun
Nick Mason is the only member to play on every studio album.
Just a piece of info that I found interesting.
Billy Arsenault and David Gilmour right?
Gilmour was not on first, possibly second album
Quite. Mason doesn't play on every Final Cut song and does not play drums on amlor.
he was definitely on second album-on some songs he and syd played. Some songs no syd
Gilmour came in 3rd album
The Piper at the gates of dawn and A saucerful of secrets doesn't include Gilmour
Well done! Very nice selection! I miss Embryo which is very representative of this era. The title though should be more like "early 70s" or "pre-dark side" -- all the classical Floyd output is from the 1970s.
I like how laid back their concerts were.
HD you've done it again. Some of the best footage and musical I've ever seen and heard!
Great collection. From the greatest band of all.
Amen to that! I will never get tired of "an Hour with Pink Floyd" .
"Obscured by Clouds" is great Live. Nice to see em playing it. Cheers.
Pink Floyd uma das bandas que eu não canso de curtir.😎😀
Ahhh caro Valmir! Pink Floyd e Genesis foram as melhores bandas de rock progressivo do planeta.
On “careful with that axe”, it might be the first time I’ve actually heard nick playing a double bass pattern.
MARAVILHOSO. Bjs nos corações 💕de todos vocês
This is exactly how they looked when I met them at McCarter Theatre Princeton University. Absolutely incredible concert & even more incredible conversations with Dave, Roger, Nick & Rick RIP.
What did you talk about?
Thank you for this video. Beautiful.
This version of Saucerful is my fave. So epic and Dave looks so hot as ever!
It takes me to a place I never want to leave 🪄💖🌟
My first ‘real’ album was Darkside , one of the main reasons I took up guitar and keyboards , mind blowing band , streets ahead of anyone 👍
heavenly I miss the 70s so much so nice to hear some thing from then specially David
1970s gilmour really makes me question my sexuality
Haha-funny and understood. While decidedly hetero, I do think DG has a beautiful smile. No shame in recognizing beauty.
Leonardo DiCaprio should play him in a movie
Major Hardon, he does have some similarities to Gilmour.
@@thebrightsideofthemoon5829 also Ashton Kutcher (70s show era) bears a striking resemblance
@@memnonarestis5102 I always thought the same! In the early seasons of That 70s Show, Ashton wore his hair quite long and looked a lot like Gilmour in the early years of Pink Floyd.
This version of Cymbaline rocks, Great upload! Thank You HDPinkFloyd !! Wow, they're so young and serious looking, it takes me straight back...
I don't know if you've discovered it by now seeing your post is 5 years old but, if you look up "An Hour with Pink Floyd" you'll get the rest of the songs that went with that version of Cymbaline. It's a truly excellent video!!
@@midlifemikey2913 Yes been there but thanks for the note. Good Good music!
I wish I had a time machine 💫🌈🌞🌻
ME TOO!!!!!!
Then you could invite people over and say, “welcome to the machine!” Lol
Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band that will ever exist/I also include Syd Barrett
@That Mechanic Guy : Funniest comment I've seen all night, lols. Bravo.
Я долго искал эту их песню! 😻 И наконец, Ютуб мне подсунул эту запись!!
No ano do meu nascimento , já se ouvia os melhores do mundo . obrigado por tudo
Absolutely fabulous and fantastic sound MUSIC and VIDEO, Thx.u, Good Time for you.
the golden age of the pink floyd...
Why oh Why oh Why is there practically ZERO concert footage from the "DSOTM", "Wish You Were Here", or "Animals" tours?? Just doesn't seem possible
security tightened up after the initial explosive popularity of 'Dark Side' ...mid-tour in '72.
I'm not sure but I think it was because they didn't want to record live footage
Because of the studio overproduction, they could not deliver live.
...something about Roger Waters being very paranoid, or the band and manager being perfectionists about the material made available. They weren't fans of bootlegs.
@@yetivanmarshall1473 You're right, all these recordings as well as live in Pompeii sound horrible. Luckily bands back then had the internet to build a solid reputation before getting signed.
As good a selection as can currently be mustered, so thanks. saw them in Oct.71 and yup, they were not only this good, they were better. They, the music and the audience, were barely on the planet, we were floating in space, hashspace. Very special.
Cymbaline is one of those great hidden Pink Floyd gems!
Mr. Gustav green is the colour too
Check Julias Dream too
