Fun Fact: Batgirl is actually part giraffe. That's why her neck is the same length as her bicep.
That's honestly my only issue with her, I wish it was just a tiiiiny bitter shorter in the neck. Would also help her height next to Dick look a little bit more correct.

Man, that Batmobile would be amazing if actually to scale with the figures it comes with. And you can see so many nods to Batmobiles of the past in that design. I see the 1989 movie, the Animated Series, even the SuperFriends design.
Batman who laughs reminds me of the Judge Dredd character Judge Death.

If you look at the costume design it's pretty much a mix of Judge Death and Clive Barker's Cenobites - it's a total homage and no accident imo. The character is also specifically a horror character rather than just another villain/hero.
@@JONNYSORENSEN_AU yeah I can definitely see that. The whole Batman metal story totally reminded me of a cross between hellraiser and the dark judges storyline in judge dread. But if I'm being honest I feel overall Batman or justice league metal and the whole dark universe thing just fell flat for me. Didn't grab me like other event comics have.

On pure visuals, I think Barbara looks the best and might be my favorite but scale for this first run looks all over the place. I'm not asking for them to match with Legends but just some internal consistency would be nice. Though I wonder if the approach is each as an independent piece and trying to get the most bang for the buck into each regardless of how they match with the others
I appreciate your reviews Robo, the Batman who laughs is the one that I want. I think that Mcfarlane has the"over the top" style and vision to do justice to hopefully a future wave of more villains from Dark Metal.

I haven't researched it yet, but it would be nice to know how long the McFarlane license lasts.... If I'm going to be changing scales, I would hope to know that I'll get a decent amount of non-A-list figures out of the decision to change up. Legends is great because of the huge variety of figures at mostly the same scale.... DC under Mattel always had an issue with scaling that it made it tough to decide on which line to go with, and you were more or less stuck buying just the figures you liked instead of the whole line... some might call that good, but I want my shelves to represent a wide range of characters that appear in scale to each other.
James Lewis I believe the license is 3 years. Watch Jay C’s interview with Todd he talks a lot about plans for the line.
The Batman Who Laughs always reminds me of a character who could be in Silent Hill.

Yeah I love batgirl's new suit. Since she's an adult now I love how she transitioned suits like the robins changing to the heroes they are now
These look alot better then wave 1 if they were 1/12 I would be all in but that Nightwing might be an impulse buy in the future. Man if Todd just went with one 12 scale he wouldn't be able to keep these on the shelf I get what he was going for but it is a huge HUGE missed opportunity. Awesome review Robo .
It still amazes me how people still don't know that Dick Grayson hasn't been Robin is decades. Batgirl's batarang looks like a Bat Cookie.
I really wish Batman who laughs was a little taller, even if they're going for 7 inch figures, he honestly might work better with 6 inch figures, because in my mind he looks lanky and tall, the small head reinforces that
I hesitated on these McFarlane DC figures for months, but I did finally pick up a couple. I have to say, I really enjoy the articulation on them, particularly in the legs. The arms are a little inconsistent with some having double jointed elbows and some not, but I'm always surprised to see ankles with that much movement AND a toe joint on a $20 figure. I wish they weren't so much bigger than Marvel Legends, but what can you do?

I know you pretty much covered this.. but tbh I'm passing on these figures.. it's not the scale that I like the most and, as you said, is pretty inconsistent with the styling.
Maybe I'll get Batman who Laughs just because I like the design.. Idk, I've been watching Death Note lately and it gives me some shinigami vibes and I like it, lol.
I'm new to collecting the McFarlane DC Multiverse and have managed to pick up a ton of them over the last month. I've mixed and matched parts to make a better Superman and still wish he was BIGGER. He should be taller than he is. Still...loving this line so far and I'm making a few customs already.
I'll wait for clearance. Not paying more for BAF pieces I don't even want. Idk what they were thinking.

Scale is the only thing that McFarlane have to work.
No, they need to work on their proportions and anatomy in terms of sculpting. They seriously need to work on their proportions though.

I agree. If he wants to do different styles from different types of media that's cool. But they need to be consistent per wave of figures.
I like how they look tbh the knightwing is my highlight, that and the animated Batman and superman. I can't wait to see if they do a red hood anytime soon. I've got the injustice 2 one and the essentials redhood, but I need more!

8 inch figures, 6 inch figures, now the 7 inch McFarland DC line.

Make no mistake, in hand they look really great.
I got the Bayman Who Laughs fig, cause it's so wickedvlooking, but passed on the Batgirl and Robi...I mean Night Wing figs. Got both in 6inch and that's good enough for me.
The Escrima Stick holders on Nightwing might be too hard to ignore. Definitely would've preferred some pegs that can be removed. Maybe they'll make a change for the red and black version?
See all that space would have room for a proper scaled Batmobile pieces. Just throw in a couple more figures in the wave and boom.
Out of the 13 figures, I grabbed 6 and really digging them. For sure not perfect but they're solid offerings. Nice review. Now give us that articulated Spawn figure Todd
I have the mcfarlane Superman and the mcfarlane Batman who laughs. And I think they feel slightly disproportionate with each other. However, they look awesome.

I like the detail of McFarland and it makes me want to collect the Justice League and Batfamily in this style but I don't know that they will will give me everyone I want in the 3 year window and considering that they seem allergic to putting out characters of color.
Sigh I just want decent 6in DC figs that look as good/close to hasbro figs
But these will have to do. I kinda feel like they're better than Mattel but idk.

Head wise as you touched on, the bigger head on Nightwing is more realistic. Batman should actually have a much bigger head. Overall I think the Nightwing Body is built more for the acrobatics which is good.
Scale wise, I think they should be in the 6 inch. Not because they are too large but with Hasbro, they are the folks in the lead. NECA get's a pass but not for a DC line. I also like them larger but the majority of my figures are in that 6inch size.

I didn’t know the bat mobile was three pieces. When I saw the promotional images, it looked like just two pieces and two figures came with the same piece.
Batman Who Laughs is the better one, the other two are a bit...mheee, I agree with Robo this line is very inconsistent. I hope McFarlane Toys are absorbing every critic and will in fact present better figures in the next wave. Thanks for the review Robo.

If they're going with Sean gordon murphy, they should've went with his white knight batgirl. shit his nightwing is better than the rebirth suit too. and if they're doing nightwing and batgirl, they might as well do white knight batman too. some of the best designs

A silver permanent marker works perfect for metal parts on figures that aren't painted, like buckles and buttons
@schwiggity I know it rubs off but it's a good temporary solution, plus I don't really play with my figures I just display them

If they do these 3 things
1. Go down to 6in scale
2. Fix the ab crunch/waist ball
3. Change the leg hips they just look awful and you can't swivel them for shit and as you said they catch with the waist ball if you crunch it down

I was very excited for these figures. Then I saw them at my Walmart and boy am I disappointed how they look in person. I have not seen the two armored suits in person. Maybe they're better.
I think I prefer Mattel's Batgirl, the design is cuter (Although I do like the bat ears on the gloves and boots)
Every time I see these line, I like it even less, and I didn't think that would be possible. I doubt I will even see these with the way the the Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Harley are peg warming in my area. I can't help but think this line will be short lived unless these figure improve. The only two figures that even seem to be worth the price point are the two armored figures.
Cool review, not really digging this line too much though, it seems nice but not my cup of tea, Im intrested in the armored Batman and superman though (those seem to fit better in my collection), I did see an image of the Armored superman where they swaped the head for the regular superman and look decent if you are gonna review those figures you could try that see how well it looks (might need the boil and pop method for the swap tho)
Honestly, the batmobile is a nice little bonus, but you'd think they'd just make a build a figure.
They've already decided to go that direction.
Batman who laughs is the mini series called dark knight's metal in which our Batman poker his head into the dark universe and met all the evil versions of himself.
The M.A.S.K vehicle was called Buzzard.
I can't tell if Nightwing is too tall or if Batman Who Laughs is too short.... I think BWL is too short but still looks good.
So when are these figures hitting the toy aisles? I've been stopping by different targets and one walmart and haven't seen any of these let alone the metal batman!?!?

I don't like the ankles on these. It's great that they have ankle articulation, but the ball joints are just too high up on the foot. They don't look anatomically correct when the foot is bent.

I hate the proportions on these figures. The batman who laughs looks amazing, but I've never read anything with him in it. Batgirl looks great from the collar bone down, but the head sculpt looks very strange to me and the neck is weirdly long. Nighting looks cool for a moment, but he has a massive head and tiny hands which makes him look really weird. I'm probably gonna wait until they start making improvements before I buy any of McFarlane's figures.
Kinda disappointed in Mcfarlane for this release. Always been a fan of Mcfarlane Toys since Montster Maniacs but didn't like his walking dead line. With this set I'm wondering why New 52 meets Rebirth?
And why These characters...I would have liked to see First release or series use Trinity Joker....Luthor and cheetah instead of all over the place...save batgirl and nightwing till second series maybe joined by court of owls??

I'm sorry but McFarland dropped the ball, the batmobile is ridiculous and the figures don't really look that great. Toy company's are throwing these cliche toys at us and expecting us to pay for them and they don't meet expectations. There are a few reasons why we shouldn't buy these and they should be obvious.
