"I'll Love my Love" Lyrics: Abroad as I was walking One evening in the spring I heard a maid in Bedlam So sweetly for to sing; Her chain she rattled with her hands And thus replied she: Chorus: I love my love because I know My love loves me Oh cruel were his parents Who sent my love to sea And cruel was the ship That bore my love from me: Yet I love his parents since they’re his Although they’ve ruined me: Chorus Just as she there sat weeping Her love he came on land Then, hearing she was in Bedlam He ran straight out of hand; He flew into her snow-white arms And thus replied he: Chorus She said: “My love don’t frighten me, are you my love or no?” “O yes, my dearest Nancy, I am your love, also I am returned to make amends for all your injury.” Chorus So now these two are married, And happy may they be Like turtle doves together, In love and unity. All pretty maids with patience wait That have got loves at sea; Chorus
In the March, the Euphonium solo is spectacular! And, its quite a challenge, as it must be played twice. I played this part myself in a concert band years ago, and we won a Gold Medal at the Boston Heritage Music Festival in 1998.
I had the chance to play the solo in my Junior year of high school last year. I wasn't nearly as good as the Tubist in this recording, but I definitely wasn't bad!
damn Asians, they slaughter everything! Great attention to detail guy's!! This song, although musically not challenging at all, when played in orchestra really exposes a bands deficiencies and highlights their flaws... Also, many times bands will play the notes correctly, but if the tempo is off even slightly it is immediately apparent. And even when it is the correct tempo,if the correct style isn't achieved, the piece can sound really technical, and monotonous. Korean Orchestra default on neither of these. The song is played exactly as the composer meant for it to be played. With emotion and true feeling. Wonderful job, and as usual you all fail to disappoint. #RockOn
The euphonium was invented in the middle to late 1800's. Most of the standard orchestral repertoire was written prior to that. So even if an orchestra had a euphonium section, there would be no music that would utilize that voice. Sad.
That sucks, I am playing the march at my winter concert coming up. I'm the only senior euphonium and I'm also the best one. XD My band director told me this song just wouldn't sound right if it wasn't played by the euphonium
I played this for Symphonic band and when we played this at Festival one of our judges said when he saw we were playing this song he thought we would do horrible, because he said that most bands do on this song, but after we played he came up and said he really enjoyed it and for a school like us we play really well. And he said what our tubas did in this song he said not even his college student tubas could so what ours did. He really enjoyed it and we got a 1 for our score. So happy!!!!
I had the distinct pleasure of playing this piece in the late 60s under the direction of the late, great John B Robbins. A fine memory. Thank you so much.
I'm in middle school band, and our high school band is playing this for contest. UPDATE: Our high school ensemble made it out with straight 1's! They played this and another piece called West Highland Sojourn
Flute/Piccolo here and of all the pieces my high school band played this was my favorite. We didn’t have an oboe so they made it a duet with me and the first clarinet. (We are very small). Then I got to switch back and forth between flute and piccolo all through the song. And I got to play the ending piccolo solo!! By far my favorite!! Good times 😁😁
I was playing this song in Middle School, Honnor Band, for UIL but my director decided not to play it. This was my favorite music ever since. I play it every day and it's just so peaceful. I love it 💞!!
Played the third movement for wind ensemble audition on Alto Sax, and was selected to join. I really hope we play the rest of this Suite soon, really love it
There was one teacher I had when I went to band camp in seventh grade and I didn't like him much, but one thing he said really stuck out at me. He told us that, by sticking to playing stuff we already knew, we were not learning and growing. The same would apply to shrinking back from playing the "hard stuff". If you only stick to the easy stuff, you won't learn and grow. Your band might need to be told that. (Thank you, Dr. Will Reavis!)
Preston Glover Japan bands are well known for their surgery clean and precise playing! The amount of effort that they put in even for school bands is really amazing~ :D
Unfortunately in this recording, the second movement lacks a good interpretation. Although nothing is played wrongly, the oboe is just much too dominant. The other colours in the melody get lost...
Fantasia on the Dargason reminds me of a dancing at a Renaissance fair, especially right after Song of the Blacksmith sounding like constructing knight's armor.
People in our band complained, because they thought it was too hard! I wasn't very pleased by that :c It was fun though!! I hope you'll convince your director to play something by Holst soon, he's amazing (: excellent music!
@ZephImmortal Holst wrote this Suite first in 1911, then later went back and re-scored part of the last movement to use in his St. Paul's Suite (1912).
Both of his Suites for Military Band are considered standards of the wind band repetiore. They both fall into my Top 5 favorite pieces to play. The low brass parts are just brilliantly and beautifully written.
I never cared much for classical music... until my highschool band played this amazing piece by Gustav Holst! I'm a trumpet player and I have to admit that I found the trumpet part of the march to be difficult to play. Of course the euphonium part is the best... Fantasia on the Dargason is my personal favorite.
One of the reasons I love being a euphonium player! XD We're playing this in the spring concert this year. It'll be a really awesome way to end my senior year. I play bone too, but the parts are only fun in jazz band.
This is my new favorite piece, my high school wind ensemble just got it and i think my band director is going to let me play the Euphonium solo!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's one in movement one, a one measure solo in movement two, an three in movement four and those being the first greensleeves countermelody, and the last one with one euphonium player and the trumpets, and the dargason melody right before the tuba has it.
After playing this amazing piece in a band competition, I decided to spend my entire summer making an animation called, "Midnight Dance" that uses it as its score. It's my best animation, yet, and you can view it on my channel.
What is with the intonation of the woodwinds, particularly the piccolo in this recording? Is this really Tokyo Kosei? If so, I'm perplexed at such a rendition.
I'm playing this piece on my Bass Clarinet too. :D this piece is so fun to play on Bass. I finally have many measures of black notes. :P I love these movements. 4th one is the best.
My band played this a little while ago, and it was so much fun! The song without words sounds a tad bit flat to me, though. Overall, they did very good! :)
super excited to play this for the second time in my life this semester! Euphoniums unite?? more like brass unite lol (Spoken like a true french horn player!) :D
I loved this when I played it in highschool. I was first clarinet. Ohhh the glory days. It's now on my iTunes.
I was a baritone horn player..
I played bass trombone for it.
March: 0:00

"I'll Love my Love" Lyrics:
Abroad as I was walking
One evening in the spring
I heard a maid in Bedlam
So sweetly for to sing;
Her chain she rattled with her hands
And thus replied she:
Chorus:
I love my love because I know
My love loves me
Oh cruel were his parents
Who sent my love to sea
And cruel was the ship
That bore my love from me:
Yet I love his parents since they’re his
Although they’ve ruined me:
Chorus
Just as she there sat weeping
Her love he came on land
Then, hearing she was in Bedlam
He ran straight out of hand;
He flew into her snow-white arms
And thus replied he:
Chorus
She said: “My love don’t frighten me,
are you my love or no?”
“O yes, my dearest Nancy,
I am your love, also
I am returned to make amends
for all your injury.”
Chorus
So now these two are married,
And happy may they be
Like turtle doves together,
In love and unity.
All pretty maids with patience wait
That have got loves at sea;
Chorus
Thx
shout out to people who have played the euphium solo I played it in my wind ensemble class last year
In the March, the Euphonium solo is spectacular! And, its quite a challenge, as it must be played twice.
I played this part myself in a concert band years ago, and we won a Gold Medal at the Boston Heritage Music Festival in 1998.
+MrPaul1872 =D
The tuba solo at the end is stellar!

Korean Orchestra default on neither of these. The song is played exactly as the composer meant for it to be played. With emotion and true feeling.
Wonderful job, and as usual you all fail to disappoint.
#RockOn
Tuba solo at the end of the 4th movement! I owned that in the Montana All State Band
I know right!! Tuba all the way dude.
Contrabass clarinet too dude. Thing is underrepresented
A beautiful interweaving of traditional military brave music into parallel classical music. This song is very invigorating and emotional for me.
1st cornet is awesome but the euphonium solo in the March makes me wish I played euphonium too
+Katy Small Once you have it though, it's quite fun to play :)
+steelchops unlucky trumpet player. nothing tops the euph
We do get a lot of recruits that way.
Playing this in my wind ensemble class. #Clarinet.
6/8 section in the march is the best part
I never understood why euphoniums aren't allowed in orchestras.... /: They have such a beautiful, mellow sound!!
Bob Cat most likely overpower the strings lol
Bob Cat *french horn n cello passed by*
Bob Cat they are, just gotta that damn good, lol
They should be they would give the bands more of a strong bass sound.
The euphonium was invented in the middle to late 1800's. Most of the standard orchestral repertoire was written prior to that. So even if an orchestra had a euphonium section, there would be no music that would utilize that voice. Sad.
0:44 NFL Films music buffs will recognize this part - it became a favorite quote of Sam Spence.
I played 2nd trombone and had the counter melody at the end and got to just blast it cause no one else had it.
we don't have any good euphonium players nor baritone players so as first chair tuba i got to play the solo at a lower octave. so much fun
We don't have a euph or a baritone so we have the best trombone player double the part
That sucks, I am playing the march at my winter concert coming up. I'm the only senior euphonium and I'm also the best one. XD My band director told me this song just wouldn't sound right if it wasn't played by the euphonium
Should have handed him a euph and had him learn.
Euph solo for the winnnnn
+Maxwell “Martiny” Martini I'm jealous lol
I got ripped off as first trombone, I'd always play along super quietly
When is the solo, like what time??
I have it
Begins at 3:30
Maxwell Martini me too. It was fantastic. Full hall, brand new instrument, and a standing ovation after this and a few other pieces.
Try listening for the euphonium player's breathing at 3:31 and onwards.
8 bar phrases! Woop de doo he can do it and sound like gold butter
1st trombone is so much fun in the march
I played this for Symphonic band and when we played this at Festival one of our judges said when he saw we were playing this song he thought we would do horrible, because he said that most bands do on this song, but after we played he came up and said he really enjoyed it and for a school like us we play really well. One of the best songs I've ever heard. FLUTES FOR LIFE!!!!
I had the distinct pleasure of playing this piece in the late 60s under the direction of the late, great John B Robbins. A fine memory. Thank you so much.
I'm in middle school band, and our
high school band is playing this for
contest.
UPDATE: Our high school ensemble made it out with straight 1's! They played this and another piece called West Highland Sojourn
This piece is 105 years old now!
We are playing this and now it is super addicting.
I played pic for this back in grade 9, still one of my favourites :)
8:16 is my favorite part and I have the trumpet solo here too!
I was playing this song in Middle School, Honnor Band, for UIL but my director decided not to play it. This was my favorite music ever since. I play it every day and it's just so peaceful. I love it 💞!!
+Chrissy Flores Agreed.
Played the third movement for wind ensemble audition on Alto Sax, and was selected to join. I really hope we play the rest of this Suite soon, really love it
Man, I played this in 9th grade, and we sucked. This song brings back so many memories.
This was my favorite song to play in band 💖
playing this in my band concert, i wail the FFF part on French Horn in movement 3, Song of The Blacksmith. I love it.
Thank you for this particular recording. I grew up with the Eastman and RAF recordings, so this is a welcomed addition. BRIAN
Definitely one of the cleanest ensembles I've ever heard.
Preston Glover Japan bands are well known for their surgery clean and precise playing! The amount of effort that they put in even for school bands is really amazing~ :D
Definitely agree.
that picc solo in the last movement was mine
psh... it's all about the tuba!
Jacky Tran Exactly someone gets it
+Gordon Walcott no, trumpet 2 is where it's at
French horn?
Nicely done, Korey Olowe!
We are playing March in band, I'm first flute, and we played Fantasia on the dargason last year. This is our listening assignment
This piece is so much fun! I love it!
My favorite part would have to be the second movement, i love my love. It's just so beautiful.
Me too
Unfortunately in this recording, the second movement lacks a good interpretation. Although nothing is played wrongly, the oboe is just much too dominant. The other colours in the melody get lost...
Fantasia on the Dargason reminds me of a dancing at a Renaissance fair, especially right after Song of the Blacksmith sounding like constructing knight's armor.
playing a full band ensemble of this!! BOO YAAAA!!!
People in our band complained, because they thought it was too hard! I wasn't very pleased by that :c It was fun though!!
I hope you'll convince your director to play something by Holst soon, he's amazing (: excellent music!
1st Clarinet baby!!😋
@ZephImmortal Holst wrote this Suite first in 1911, then later went back and re-scored part of the last movement to use in his St. Paul's Suite (1912).
Omg, the tuba parts for this is amazing. Wait no, the entire brass part for this is awesome
Both of his Suites for Military Band are considered standards of the wind band repetiore. They both fall into my Top 5 favorite pieces to play. The low brass parts are just brilliantly and beautifully written.
Blacksmith song is probably the funnest thing to hear or play, I love it!
We are playing this song in band and its epic. I absolutley love this piece of music. It is by far my favorite piece. It is truley a work of art.
Articulation, Balance and intonation are greeeaaat!
3rd movement could go in so many video games
Wow, you have no idea how lucky you are. I've been begging my band director to play ANYTHING by Holst.
Just got this today and im already excited to play it
Judging by the previous comments Music is the universal language !!!
I never cared much for classical music... until my highschool band played this amazing piece by Gustav Holst! I'm a trumpet player and I have to admit that I found the trumpet part of the march to be difficult to play. Of course the euphonium part is the best... Fantasia on the Dargason is my personal favorite.
the complex cords in the second movement melt me.
One of the reasons I love being a euphonium player! XD We're playing this in the spring concert this year. It'll be a really awesome way to end my senior year. I play bone too, but the parts are only fun in jazz band.
we are playing this is april. it's insane. oh and i'm the 1st chair alto sax
That's me playing the alto sax solo in 2 AND 4
this song taught me euphonium. all time favorite
Omg my high school is playing this and im the only oboe. Cant wait till 2nd movemnet. My fav. Yaaas
Im the only oboe ,too. :)
This. So many times this. I love the Second Suite but it wouldn't hurt to throw a bone to the trombone section once in a while.
Great piece!!! I played this many, many moons ago!
I'm so excited to play this in the Oklahoma Small-School All-State band next weekend. 3
This is my audition piece for top band at my school
I can never hear the bass clarinet at the end with the tuba. It's not JUST tuba, it's written for Bass Clarinet too
this is the first youtube video ive seen with 0 dislikes! awesome. btw low brass is epic.
This is my new favorite piece, my high school wind ensemble just got it and i think my band director is going to let me play the Euphonium solo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which one? There are so many!
KC Sutherland Actually there are only two. Three if you count the one in the first movement twice, which I believe is the one he's talking about.
It's my best animation, yet, and you can view it on my channel.
bass clarinetist who gets to play the oboe solo in song without words (on oboe) because we have 32 people in our band
Still one of my favorite pieces to play!
we played this at our school and it was awesome!!!!
We're playing this song in 2 weeks c: I love it!
I played this in school and it became my favorite piece.
i might possibly be playing this piece and for the level our band is at we sound really good expecially our euponium player :) i just love this piece!
if it exists, it has been played by tokyo kosei wind orchestra
My high school memory 21 years ago
I can hear the euphonium (?) player breathing on his solos
I'm also playing this, this year and i play the euphonium (baritone) and I love this song.
first five seconds:
low brass: "bum bum bum bum bum"'
woodwinds: "BRLRURRUEEEAGHGH"
theyer are 5 percussion parts and only two percussionists in my band...... and were in the 8th grade playing it at this speed!!
Absolutely playing flute and piccolo in this 45, yes 45, years ago.
Holst and awesome brass parts fall hand in hand.
fantastic
Perfect.
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
Playing a brass quintet version of this :) yaaaay
We are playing this and it is really hard at first but I'm slowly getting it
It was hard for me too. What instrument do you play?
I think they sound cool.. rn for festival and concert, we're only playing the 1st and 4th movements along with a song called Urban Dances
we are playing this
Playing this in my high school band and I'm on the piccolo. I'm so excited yet nervous for the solo in the 4th movement. Any tips?
What is with the intonation of the woodwinds, particularly the piccolo in this recording? Is this really Tokyo Kosei? If so, I'm perplexed at such a rendition.
im playing this for my midwinter concert!!!! 1st chair sax!!!
I played this when I was in 6th grade. I played with the high school and I was 2nd clarinet
letting everyone know, i am uploading the original recording for this song and it will be in high quality!
super excited to play this for the second time in my life this semester! Euphoniums unite?? more like brass unite lol (Spoken like a true french horn player!) :D
yeah we're playing this too, i'm on bass clarinet, the other bassist always drops out during dargason so im stuck with an uneeded solo >>
This whole thing is my favourite :D
I love the song of the blacksmith. I have the melody. I play tenor sax at the New England junior wind ensemble
