Batman after defeating the Joker by first time: "Well, that was a pretty freaky guy...Thank God I will not have to worry about him anymore..."
New writers: “hmmm I wonder who I’ll have in my take on Batman… so many villain choices… I got it!”
🤣👍
Joker: "the love of my life"
Meanwhile joker in Arkham “ I… I think I found my murder soul mate?” 😂
@@JokerFan-hj4ivthat was great
I love how in most interpretation, Batman almost always underestimate Joker the first time they encounter each other, thinking he's just another low-life criminal, with that backfiring in Batman's face.
It’s pretty great. I love when they show how dangerous he is.
Why wouldn't he
Makes sense
Crazy that the Joker was meant as a one-off villian. That he was intended to stay dead after his first comic.
That is pretty wild. I’m sure there wasn’t much thought put into the joker considering he was just supposed to be some wacky killer in clown makeup, a villain of the week never to be seen again. It’s funny how things work out sometimes he was meant to be one thing and ended up being something so entirely different. Now literally everyone knows who the joker is he’s so iconic even people who don’t care about and have never read comics know who he is
I’ll be honest if Batman other rouges were introduced around the time joker probably wouldn’t be the most popular
Batman's dialogue in the second take actually feels kinda off
He usually ain't chatty or throwing insults from my experience.
If he is chatty and doing his whole I am Vengeance thing it's likely gonna be for a good reason
Like when he's really under pressure or something and needs to motivate himself
Like in the animated series when he was fighting the effects of Scarecrow's fear gas showing him his father haunting him. It made sense in that moment.
yeah it was pure cringe
I think it would be better if someone who didn’t sound like fem boy wasn’t reading it in his voice
@@jordanplays1235 the people on the internet who just insult just to insult bro lmao
Yall in the comments need to chill, this is batman year 1 not batman year 5
True but this is a very young Batman with little experience. He’s never faced anyone as dangerous as the Joker or been tested with someone so difficult. It makes sense for him to be a lil brash and arrogant here.
The Joker's origin actually got a pretty interesting alternate outcome the Elseworld comic "In Darkest Night". In this reality, Bruce became a Green Lantern during the events of "Year One" and used his powers to stop Red Hood and his two henchmen before the worst could happen, thus avoiding the creation of the Joker. The Red Hood then tells Bruce he had a really bad day, to which the Green Lantern Bruce replies that is no excuse for his crimes, because everyone has terrible days and yet most people know to deal with it, causing Hood to apoligize for his actions.
That’s not how a fun fact works ..
Great
That Joker design is pretty awesome with his black/white color scheme! The TNBA-style eyes were always underrated imo, and really help sell Joker being an almost inhuman force of nature.
I don't think I like this origin story that much, but I will say the artistic style of the Joker in that comic book is one the most terrifying I've seen of him. When Batman is telling the Joker he should give up or get hurt more, the look of pure evil savagery on the Joker's face gave me chills. Also, the simple way the Joker just runs at the guy with the Knife, nothing jokery about it, just an absolutely twisted person who has no fear of anything coming to murder you.
Tom king is woke.
@@Ksmoove0824stay mad
I like this take on their origin most because I've always seen them do it so big and bold but I think going with his original take of Joker going on a killing spree is a new change.
arkham asylum: a serious house on serious earth
@@Ksmoove0824
That doesnt seem bad. The Batman and Spiderverse can be called that and they were great, I just gotta judge it by it's quality of content.
4:50
Joker with a knight armor is genuinely of the most terrifying things I ever saw...
I'd love to see this story in a live action horror style batman movie
yeah
When
Facts
See this is why Batman is no longer my fav superhero, joker kills 8 cops, pops out 2 of their eyeballs, and all he gets is a all expenses paid vacation to Arkham. It’s one thing to play a game of cat and mouse, it’s totally different when innocent people get killed in the process
I mean Spider-man, Daredevil and Superman are no better if you ask me.
Batman was alweys scumy to me
i like this retelling but there’s no reason he should’ve lost this. i get he underestimated him but i like how batman thinks he’s done with him as soon as he put him away swiftly the first time not realizing the absolute monstrosity that is coming
True but this is how it went during their first encounter in the comics.
@@biingolewis7824 i was referring to the first time they met in the previous iteration
The Joker Really Sat Inside That Knight Until 12:00 Struck , He's Really Determined Bro 😂😂😂😂😂
5:25 you know looking back on it the TNBA Joker design wasnt half bad if drawn much better it could look creepy just like this.
Imagine a parallel universe in which the Joker actually died forever in his first appearance, with the Mad Monk becoming Batman's nemesis instead. It would be TRULY an interesting reality
I would think the Riddler would take his place. None the less, a complete different world.
Who's the Mad Monk?
@@MrWolfchamp-xi3cu
Batman's first masked super-villain, who was killed in his first appearance by the Bat
@@OptimusMaximusNeroisn't Dr death the first masked villain Batman fought against in the comics?
@@quentinfogger5755
He was not a masked villain at the time
They should make an animated movie out of this one.
1) Why is Joker suddenly a Terminator taking multiple rounds center mass and going like John Connor made fun of the factory that built him?
2) Kinda thought Batman would get medical attention to the guy that has a knife in his hand.
3) Considering the elaborate setup of the first murder, I thought he'd do something just as elaborate and lackidasical for the 2nd but he just ran in with a knife. Why? I guess he was salty?
4) Kinda thought Bruce would make himself the next target just to make sure no one else gets hurt. At least in my head canon but I guess it makes sense so Joker isn't eyeing him too close?
Tom King still doesnt know how to write good batman
Yea I was waiting for an explanation on how Joker just ate those rounds and then jumped out a 3 story window and outran Batman to a car?
The last time I’ve seen joker this creepy and disturbing was during Death of the Family or Endgame
DC universe is already confusing enough. They need to stop changing these already established stories. They did the same with 3 jokers and Doomsday clock. Confuse the readers. For new fans , it's fine. But when they visit the old classics tales or for old readers, it will create confusion because at some point DC will change things again.
What do you think is the best thing about this comic book event and who do you think is the best character?
How do you think Batman is going to survive the fall from that bridge and how is he going to catch that murdering clown?
The black boxes give this a silent picture feel. It reminds me of a fan film someone made called Silent Shadow of the Batman.
I love the art style here. The joker looks straight up demonic
That was great. Really establishes Joker as ultra violent, insane, cunning and not afraid of Batman. Batman shouldve killed right then and there.
Denny O'Neil also retold this story in Legends of The Dark Knight #50, back in 1993.
The fact that Batman kept talking his stuff after getting kicked in the teeth is epic indeed
Very refreshing for people who are big fans of Death of The Family bridge scene
This remind me of the first Batman issues from the 40s
To think all this sh*t happened simply because a random guy had "a bad day"
that is how it usually hapens
I love the art and merging old lore together, but it's a little too self aware and straight forward. Dialogue especially. I still the most fun I've had watching them cross paths for the first time is in Arkham Origins. Joker impersonating Black Mask to put a hit out on Batman for Christmas. Beautiful. Batman doesn't even get answers even tho the audience gets to see inside Joker's mind.
What would happen if we saw this comic book event taking place on the Big Screen or TV Shows?
I like the man who laughs story. But this is a good take
I read in a Batman book that Batman met the Joker as a normal person and bank robber. And after the Joker had been caught... he decided to transform into the Joker we all know today.
Yeah, that was his original origin.
I think you should give a bit more love to the Finger/Kane story these are based on. It might be pushing 90 years old, but it's still a great story that largely holds up. The fact that they keep coming back to it is evidence of that.
With every new first encounter, every new reboot, they just turn him more and more into a powerless Freddy Kreuger. He's got the jokes, he's got the kills, he's got the sadisticness, he just can't control dreams.
And now I'm imagining Joker with access to Dr. Destiny's Materioptikon.
How does Joker have supernatural endurance? He's like john wick...
I always felt like it was the chemicals but idk
Very dark, very gory like the Joker. Great takes.
The art is just gorgeous!
The Joker to me at least is the embodiment of Hell, Savage, Twisted, Evil, no conscience, no remorse, pure evil
The Brave and the Bold artwork is absolutely incredible!!!
How many more Flashback stories is Batman gonna get
I can't wait for them to retcon this in 10 years...
Best line: I do not coddle criminals
Wasn't the first canon encounter the one where Joker hijacks a hot air balloon and threatening to gas the city, or something similar?
No
That was The Batman 2008 cartoon series first encounter
@@edgonlo17 I know that, but I could swear I've read \ heard before that the events of that episode were based on their first encounter, or at least one of the very first ones.
@@DiamondBlade11 I think it's their second encounter, at least that's what I remember from Snyder's Batman run
There is no argument, this is the most iconic rivalry in comic books if not in all of literature
Joker is one of those characters that thankfully in part to good writing never seems to get stale. He has existed just as long as Batman and in 80 years, every generation of comic book reader keeps wanting more of this sinister clown. There are a lot of comic book villains, including from Batman's rouge gallery that have come and went. But, Joker had stood the test of time.
All those batman lines are so cool and apply to every other villain in his rogues gallery. But joker is probably the only one who batman at this point in time absolutely couldn't predict because he was crazy. Once they started going back and forth often. That's when batman got to know the joker well. Because they both figured each other out bit by bit. I think that's why they're both so interesting as a dynamic. Despite being arch enemies. They're also kind of like rivals that keep pushing the other to new heights.
Similar to 1939 Detective Comic #27, just darker... Awesome!!! Although 1939 was a dark comic too!
The word punk is not usually used properly. A bully who pushs someone around then is confronted by their victim will call the victim a punk.
This looks like more similar to their first encounter than the other.
Personally I like the new 52 origin. Where jokers taken over the red hood gang. But this is pretty cool
The Joker is 6'5 and 191lbs in canon. Joker's length, reach, & madness, but mostly his constant H2H CQC w/the best combatant on earth, Batsy r wht makes J a formidable fighter
Are we going to see this being adapted in the Matt Reeves Batman movies with Barry Keoghan as the Joker?
That would be so cool! Joker's got these boogeyman eyes coming in with that dinner knife!
pretty cool that both of those stories are actually variations of the bat whispers film that inspired batman.
The guy kills police officers, poisons people and takes out their eyeballs. Yet he does not get punishment of death
Can you do the history of magneto, zorro, judge dredd, Cassie hack, qwenpool, hit monkey, vamperrella, moon girl & devil dinosaur and league of extraordinary gentlemen
Who is the artist to the thumbnail? It looks great and I'd like to look up more of their work!
I really like in The Batman cartoon when Batman tries to rub the paint off his face to see that it’s not paint.
Il primo incontro/scontro tra Batman ed il Joker, a parer mio, è stato magnificamente descritto anche nel numero 50 di The Legends of the Dark Knight con la storia "Images"
Basically a remake of the first appearance
I think the reference for the 1980 Batman movie was glossed over. If you pause at 6:27 Where the caption reads "Who for once is alone..." The sofa and paintings on the wall look very much like the scene where Jack N.'s Joker was sitting. He made Alicia faint, she went on to ware the mask.
all because he called him the villain of the week
If this is how the upcoming Brave and the Bold movie turns out, it would be soooo good. I still think DC should not abandon the dark themes on its movies
i seriously doubt its gonna be as dark as this, if you want a more darker batman universe matt reeves universe is the best one for that
great video but begging you to mention the artists when talking about comics - Mitch & Doug did so much to make the stories so memorable
To be fair that whole dialog with Joker was pulled from like at least 2 sources. I believe it's DKR where he says criminals are a superstitious and cowerdly lot. And the Vengeance line obviously from BTAS and other places
and this is why Joker is the baddest villian of them all. He makes heath leadgers joker look more sane than him. Bravo DC. And thank you Variant.
Where can I order these comics?
Can you do history of Cyclone, Rhino, Sandman, Kraven the Hunter, Chameleon, Scorpion and the Human Fly along with Kurt Connors the Lizard. Also can you do the history of the Flash Villains like Turtle, Magenta, Cobalt Blue, Mirror Master and Top?
7:58 "...superstitious and cowardly..." taken from Batman Beyond
I actually see some interesting similarities between this Joker and Art the Clown from Terrifier. Black and white face paint, tendancy towards absurd and grotesque violence, silent motifs (joker seemingly speaks only through silent movie dialogue cards in this, whereas Art just doesn't speak). I wonder if Terrifier was an influence on this take.
Can you do history of the characters mentioned in this video?
Yesss!
I really hope they dont keep doing these retellings over again let this second time be only time they retell the first encounter of batman and joker
"All I have to do is flip this LEEEEver"
It sounds good but I'm still fond of the first encounter described in Legends of The Dark Knight Book ''Images'' a carry on from Year One.
You mean issue 50?
@@edgonlo17 Issue #50 or Images, potato potatoe, point is, it's a good first meeting story
It’s interesting. I really like the art in this though
3:35 Is.......Batman....smiling!!!
Can't wait for the re-retake on Joker's first encounter with Batman
Can we talk about the nod to BTAS rogue Clock King? I know his name in BTAS is Temple Fugate, but Tempus Fugit on the face of the clock is a little too close to not see him as a possible future villain.
It’s a shame we don’t get the buy list as often it was great for keeping up
I gotta get my hands on these comics.
Who do you think should play the Joker in James Gunn DC projects in the DCU along with which actor is going to play Batman in that franchise between Brett Dalton or Oliver Jackson Cohen?
What do you think the live action version of Batman the Brave and the Bold is going to be like?
Well considering they are introducing Damian Wayne as robin right off the bat it’s gonna be super different from basically any live action Batman we’ve ever had. Having Damian means they’ll prolly have talia in it as well or atleast reference to her which means the league of assassins may be involved. I think introducing the bat family is a great way to go cus we’ve mostly had solo Batman and it helps differentiate it from Matt reeves Batman that’s still gonna be going on and having more movies alongside what James Gunn is doing, a little surprised they are going straight to Damian though. I wonder does that mean they are just gonna make it so that he’s the first robin or will nightwing, batgirl and the others be established already? Cus think about if he’s already had all those sidekicks that means he’s been Batman for ages already yet all the rumors we’ve heard are that they are going with like a rather young 30 year old Batman. Also as far as the joker I think they should utilize some other villains for the first movie or 2
awesome
Is it me or does the joker design is a resemblance to he controversial the new batman adventures design ?
It's crazy how often comic book companies like to rewrite popular stories, with various degrees of success
The man who laughs is a classic. Tom King Better not drop the ball.
Finally!
"You're wounded. Dying.
*Lie down, and I'll me take you to a hospital.
*Fight me, and I'll take your kneecaps out of your legs.
Your choice."
. . . Damn.
Whatever joker we get, it never disappoints us. Except for that Jared Leto joker.
Can you do a video on black condor from the new blue beetle comic
I love you guys still a huge nerd
How long till you do history of the Thunderbolts team and the Young Avengers since they're slowly forming in the MCU?
Bro is this comic written like a silent movie!??!
The Joker is nearly impossible to plan a strategy for, considering that he is utterly insane.
CLASSIC ARTWORK ! EVERY DC AND MARVEL SHOULD HAVE THIS STYLE OF WRITING FOR THEIR MOVIES AND COMICS THAT THEIR FANS ENJOY. ANOTHER EXCELLENT VARIANT COMICS REVIEW. THANKS! ARRIS.
So how long till you do history of Arno_Stark Iron Man, Ezekiel Stane, Titanium Man, Crimson Dynamo, Whiplash, War Machine and Pepper Potts AKA Rescue?
The more violent they make these characters the dumber Batman looks for not ending them. Or imprisoning them himself.
Is this gonna be gunns live action brave and the bold movie
Imagine it was game or we get movie like this
Nice
Dope
What does this mean for the timeline? Does this story retcon the last time Joker met Batman?
Or does this take place in the rebirth universe, and the last time they first met takes place in the post crisis universe? I know the rebirth universe takes things from the post crisis/pre new 52 universe and the new 52 universe.
What's going on with all the quotes inbetween the frames?
