If your talking about 1980s cars, you shouldn't be showing the road runner of the 1970s or the olds 442 from the 70s as well. Totally different versions.!

I can certainly understand your point/perspective. The Olds 442 definitely came into its own in the 1970's, but still had an impact into the 1980's. What other cars/models would you have liked to see included?

The 5.0 shown for the IROC had "Powered by Ford" on the valve covers. You showed a Monte Carlo SS while talking about the Grand National. My Dad had an 87 Shelby Charger. It was shockingly quick. And if you got the GLH (Goes Like Hell) version, it was even quicker. The 442 and Road Runner were both early 70s, not 80s.

Young people writing about previous eras need to run their ideas, scripts, and videos past an experienced older 'car' person from those days for editing/correcting/grading before posting them... to gain credibility... stop confusing misinformation...
In dyer2cycle's list, none of those listed meet the definition of a "Muscle Car", which is a midsized RWD family car with the bigger engine from a full size car... and, of course, Mustang/Camaro/Firebird are "pony cars"... '80s Chrysler products are FWD...

Others bought Monte Carlo SS or a few IROC Z's, usually the more well to do had the IROC's...A lot of young guys I know also bought Mustang LX 5.0's instead of GT's...they were cheaper, lighter, and some thought they had a cleaner look than the GT's with all the added-on doo-dads..the Holy Grail was the Grand National, only a couple were around here, and people took notice. A lot of others(including me) had older/classic cars...I remember a guy who had a '69 GTX with 440 4 speed..I had a 57 Chevy and a '66 Nova SS..this was still a time when a teenager or young guy could buy these cars, and the ones we had were far from "mint"...those cars I mentioned WERE muscle cars of the 1980's-not '60's muscle cars, but still muscle cars...

I had one of those 1982 Mustang GTs.
Fun car, but very easy to lose it going around a corner in the rain, CRAZY light in the rear and not enough tire.
The upgraded tires on the 1983s would fit the same rims though, and helped a LOT.
I could also burn rubber if I launched at anything over 1300 RPM with those 190/65R390 TRXs - the 220/55s let me do 1800 with no other changes.
Car DID benefit in both power AND fuel economy from a set of dual headers into a pair of Hush Thrush mufflers instead of the catalytic - and was still clean enough after a tune-up to pass emissions (barely).
And given what was available in 1980 and 1981, the "157 HP" Mustang WAS a major step towards real performance again (the mid-200s foot pounds of torque also helped).

The 5.0 tuned port injected engines ho ratings were around 205. But you could get a maual shift with that engine. The IROC-Z's unfortunately did not come with dual exhausts, atleast mine didn't. Oh the inaccuracies. Not one 80s Olds 442 was shown. The C4 Corvette only had 2 engine options, the crossfire injected 350, or the TPI 350, not an array of engine options. If you're going to mention the trans am in the 80s, you need to mention the third gens, being they carried through 8 model years to the second gens 2 model years. The late second gens were turds as well. I've never once heard anyone say that the Monte Carlo SS was a "muscle" car with a 305 at best weighing almost 4000 LBS. That's #10 easy. Also no one has ever stated that the Shelby charger was a muscle car, it was more like a hot hatch. The only roadrunner of the 80s was the 80 and it was a shell of it's former self. Didn't last 1 year, so why include it? That's a 60s, 70s muscle car, not an 80s where it was just a version of the Dodge Aspen. Here's my list in no particular order:
    Buick Grand National
    Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z28
    Pontiac Trans Am GTA
    Ford Mustang GT
    Ford Mustang SVO
    Oldsmobile Cutlass 442
    89 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am
Maybe the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aerocouoe just because of it's styling.
Two more huh?? Muscle car, so RWD, 2 door coupe, American made.....
Ok, i guess the Chevrolet C4 Corvette makes it.
Last one would maybe be.....a Pontiac Fiero GT??? Or do we consider a Ford Taurus SHO as muscle car??? I don't know. I just know this list is all jacked up.

Man I love those TurboTbirds. I've got a charcoal gray 87 & a silver 88, both loaded, sunroofs & two tone leather, also the absolute most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. The silver 1988 is my favorite & my speed demon, owned since 2006 & continually modified & upgraded, been to a tach calculated & GPS nearest clocking of 155-158 mph. Got a 140 factory style speedometer to install, but hell it's still not gonna read to the point 18psi boost & gearing come to their limits and the tach needle advances no further, maximum attainable speed. A front mount intercooler & bigger exhaust are coming, certainly 160+mph and a few more street races I'll win. Ford #1

I bought a new Plymouth turismo in 1982 that was the forunner of the Shelby charger
Mine had 2.2 overhead cam 4cyl basically is half of 318ci. Tuneup was the same as the v8. The exception was mine powered by Direct Connection performance enhanced.. Hi perform intake, computer, dual exhaust side air dams, front spoiler, aero dynamic headlight covers. It was a one of a kind because the Shelby charger wasn't a thing until 1984. I was two years before with my transformation. That little 4cyl back the was producing250hp on the front wheels because it was frontwheel drive. The Chrysler dealership wanted to pay me to have it displayed on their lot to promote that car. Direct Connection paid me for sponsorship since I had put alot of money into a new car.. I ran the car at our local drag strip.. Man I wish I still had that car.Someehere I will post a picture of that car. It was normally aspirated with a boosted down draft velocity carb 2brl. It was very quick because the car weighed less than 3000lbs. Beautiful to look at. Some of the v8sduring that Era didn't want to get embarrassed by that car.

He said it was originally a Chrysler mule assigned to the Chelsea Michigan test center. It had 68k miles, a digital dash including the speedometer. One day I decided to see what it could do top end on I-275. I went over the 110 mph readout to where the speedo showed 3 blinking dashes & it was still picking up momentum. Talk about a sleeper & it was a ball to drive. Fun car & very underrated.
