Is It A Trail Or Slopestyle Bike? - Trek Fuel EX Aluminum Build And Ride

- My dream short travel trail bike would be a Slope-Duro monster.. It would look like a big 27.5 version of a Slopestyle bike with a 12-speed drivetrain, a dropper post, hearty suspension that isn't afraid to send, and of course it would have to be able to barspin and tailwhip.
Time to stop dreaming because this is that bike.

“I don’t know why you call them heels cus when you hurt em they don’t” I’m dead😂
I wanted to buy this frame to build it up. They were sold out everywhere!!. Then I realized the EX 5 was the same frame but in a complete bike build for 100$ more. So I Bought the EX 5 sold everything off of it and and essentially bought the frame for a 1000$. Now I'm building it back up the way I like. Thanx for the angle spacer trick. I've been racking my brain on how to get around the knock block!
Gravy idea. I've been planning on doing the same for quite a while now, just waiting on availability! Seeing Cam put a different wheel size on this bike blows my mind on build ideas.
Congrats on finding a way to beat the system! That’s so dialed. Smarter not harder
What fork offset are you going to run. I'm planning on doing something similar but I don't know what offset to run. 44mm or 51mm. It comes stock with 42mm.
I love watching a Trek athlete just remove all the proprietary stuff and change the wheel size.
sometimes I wonder if Trek makes the proprietary stuff just for the buzzwords
@@EMBIKES I think they make it for marketing but I dont know if its actually better lol
So he swaps the rear shock for something beefier and removes knock block so he can spin the bars and that’s removing all of the proprietary stuff? Looks like an otherwise full Bontrager build. 🤷🏼
@@Goingforbroke71 the bontrager bars and tyres can be bought seperately even for your own non trek bike thats why they're not proprietary per se
Less than a percent of consumers would buy a trail-bike to do barspins. Other than those few, Knock Block is sick. Had it two years ago on my Remedy and am planning to go back for my next build. Gives you the same feeling as a dual crown when you do moto-whips and scrubs. You can press against it to get 'em extra cranked.
The frame on these bikes are a thing of beauty. I love mine!
Fuel Ex is for sure one of the best bike outhere. Been riding mine since April and it is simply amazing.
*I love this bike. Besides **Latest.Bike** being kind of heavy, I have no complaints. It was delivered a day early in great shape and it is a blast to ride*
So cool you’re riding the Al frames! They need love too!
Dude I just got this bike because I was like I wonder if anyone else thinks it’d be good for jumps too. Thanks for sharing Cam you rule!!!! I got black and red, 29’s like your carbon Fuel EX.
Oh my, I have the same frame, Stoked!
Literally last week my wife and I were talking about moving to Bend because Salt Lake gets to dusty in the fall - after seeing this it seems like that might not be the best call haha
Thank you for sharing . Awesome build.
Bought same model last month. Love it and cant stop staring at it lol.
Yes! I’m also afflicted with that staring problem
A Cam McCaul video on your birthday is one of the best omens in modern mountain bike society.
Cant wait to see you shred on this thing!
Carson Pearce happy birthday!
Sorry about the heel, thanks for the edit! Hope it's feeling a bit better.
Thanks a ton. comes with the territory. Should be back at it soon but I have another new frame to build so should be able to get another video out even before I'm back in action
Hey can as a youngster I watched all your old clips even had a few of your old movies from back in the day and due watching mtbing clips for my hole childhood.now I'm 22 and me and my dad have just over a year ago opens our own men shop both working as mechanics.I owe part of the dream come true to you thank s to I've chased my dream of being a pro freerider realised after many injuries that im.more suited for doing the bikes and making them work .
So big thank you can you've been a massive inspiration to me over the years love you man and thank you for being you
Hey Rob, wow - thank you soooo much for the kind words and I’m so happy to hear you’ve found your place doing something you love and are able to be surrounded by bikes! All the best man, thank you so much for watching the vids, (both the old ones and these ones) and I hope to bump into you on the trail someday.
Killer build legend, I'll be doing the same knock block delete on mine, no bar spins for me but it needs to go for drive way shenanigans and ease of transporting.
Sick video.🤘Hope your ankle feels better!
BIKE STUFF! YES! 👍
I got a trek fuel ex 7 back in 2018 and I loved it, but I really wanted to learn barspins and x ups but I was never able to because of the knock block, I really want to do this to my bike now
So true about the heel.
Binge watched almost all your videos today. I was looking at getting the fuel ex 5, but they are sold out until April! Playing the waiting game now haha
I love what you've done here.
Does the flip chip make up for the bottom bracket drop? What's the final bb-ground height? Crank length? Thanks.
Rad bike build Cam! I'm not into slopestyle myself but sure would love to see a Fuel EX with a Shore or mini enduro build - 150mm fork, float X/X2
That's basically the exact bike I'd like next for my stable.
Sick! Now you can have a slope-ish bike and be able to pedal up to the top of the jumps!
Great video! Nice TREK
Love the bike Dude
My 2019 Fuel Ex could do with this same treatment. Very cool to see
Will adding the angle spacer remove the need for the knock block? I picked up a 21 EX 7 and I want extra steering angle.
This is my next bike the trek fuel 8 same color aswell, already have the Roscoe 8 and a supercaliber, just know where I am with trek!
Does it change the geo much adding the spacer cup? Do you need to buy a special race for the top of the heAdset? Would love to get rid of the knock block on my slash
Will the reverse component angle spacer clear the downtube on 2021 trek remedy 8?
The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from!!!
Haha love it
That a good name for the bike "bad sally"👍
that is sick
What was that lower cup that you put on your fork so it can spin without the knockblock?
Make sure you have enough ice to keep the beers cool too dude. Hope you heal soon hahaha!
I remember Cam talking about his ideal bike like 10 years ago...and I think he described this exact bike. It was a Teva shoe commercial or something
I live in Ashland and there's some great steep downhill tracks, would be the dream to take you on some laps.
"I don't know why they call them heels... because they don't". HAHA I feel ya there brother
Do you ride your Trek Session in the high mino link position for Jumping? Or do you even switch for DH or jumping?
Wow nice build, oh and I had a question, do you know if the reverse components angle-spacer would fit with the trek fuel Ex 7 with the rockshox 35 fork and make it so the fork has no contact with the frame and get a new headset like what you did? Or is the fork or frame a little different and the fork would still hit the frame? And I’m also looking into upgrading the fork with a Marzocchi bomber Z1 150 travel, and I see that your marzocchi with the angle spacer fit.
It's a down slope trail country bike! My favourite kind!
I’m down with that
Anyone know what he's using to run the front break down the steerer?
How did you get an aluminum frame without it having a number after fuel ex on the to tube
Is the reverse components spacer usable with the stock trek headset?
What size angle spacer do I need, I'm trying to do the same thing
Sweet
What bottom bracket did you use for this build
Where can I get those black decals on the Marzocchi bomber?
How did you pass your front brake hose through the spider?
@9:17 paused vid.. that color is sickkkkk 👊👊👊
Sick vid, the build looks fire! Specifically what headset did you use? I'm thinking of getting the same frame and also don't want the knock block and might wanna use a works components headset too. There don't seem to be any specifics on the trek website. Thanks!
Good on you for going out to the lair with how it is🤣👏🏽
Haha it’s pretty beat. This time last year we had rain and you were doing 7’s
Seriously, where can i find more info on that cable routing? It looks sick!
I am thinking to change my Fuel Ex 9.8 2020 to 27,5. Do I need also to change fork from Fox 36 29” to some 27,5” fork??
Cool… can you share the suspension and fork set up?
Can u remove the knock block like that on a remedy?
Okay. Can I just ask why you would have it in high mode? I have my remedy in high mode because it feels more jumpy but could someone tell me if this is actually the case?
Sweeeeet!!👌💚🤙
I want to convert my trek fuel ex 8 to 27.5. Should that be pretty easy? Just switching out the wheels is all you half to do?
what headset did you use to get rid of that knock block? love the video.
What size is the shock?
Wait one minute. What wheel size are you running?
Any reason why you didn’t go with the remedy?
whats that rear shock?
Did u use a 29ince fork or a 27.5 fork
How much psi do you run in your fork and shock? Also same with your tires how much psi, cause I have the same bike and keep bottoming out my bike and thinking to just put a shit ton of psi so it just feels nice
Looks like I found my new dream bike
Yessss
Cam did u do any special stuff to put that x2 shock on?
Can anyone with that bike put it on I have the same one in a size medium
Thanks love your content
Hey there, ya as long as you have the right shock length eye-to-eye and the right mounting hardware, it fits nicely
What is the size of frame?
YESSSS I have an aluminum Trek Fuel EX :D
can we get another one of these videos but with the new trek fuel ex gen 6 would love to see what you can do with it and give me ideas of what to do for mine
heck yeah, I'm hoping to build one up soon. I'm thinking a Gen. 6 Fuel EX and I'll probably do a size smaller than I usually do for the frame. So a Medium.
So sick. Literally building this bike. Only a lyrik ohlins coil and a enve m730s
Heck ya - you’ll love it
Cam McCaul hope so!
what width are those bars? Dope build!
Dude I feel like it's been a while since we seen a vid. When are we gonna see another 2-bike day?
Just finished a 3-ride day and feeling juiced
Where are the bar ends?
@Cam, how did you guys fit the float X2 into your fuel ex? What hardware did you guys use? My 2021 carbon fuel ex came with a Trunnion shock and I would like to swap it with a float x shock. Thanks!
210x55mm X2 use the same Cushing... and go.. maybe have problem with the bottle... but buy a new or take out it. sorry my English
Will the reverse spacer work with a remedy frame too?? Cheers
Yep!
I want this bike
Yo Dude, how wide do you run your bars on this Bike👽👀
i got told, changeing the mino link to that posetion would be for climbing? was i told wrong? im more of a downhill, bikepark rider and also do have that Trek EX someone help out pls :D
Hope the heel is fine.
I'm building myself a bike with that exact frame😂
Bro how many kilograms that bike?
Give me that downtube spacers link please.
14:32 the joke took me a second but made me laugh
can you retrofit the fork spacer onto a 2020 frame?
asking for a dear friend.. my remedy.
Yep, should work fine
sweeeeet
Dude, you need a new bike, cause I'm gonna steal that one!
Not riding the remedy anymore? This bike has a little less travel yeah?
If only I can afford a true mountain bike like this. I have a customized 2020 Schwinn S29 that I'm about to install an SR Suntour XCR fork on, and I'm still looking for a good rear shock for it. But that's all I can afford, sadly.
Where does one acquire this reverse components angle spacer? Or was this a one-off thing made specially for you ?
Here’s the website for the product- I think I bought it off of worldwidecyclery or something
reverse-components.com/en/products/05°-angle-spacer-tapered-forks
Cam McCaul awesome. Thanks so much for the reply. Been dying to find something to eliminate the knockblock on my remedy 🤙
And then make sure your bottom headset bearing is a 45 degree bearing
What size is that frame?
“ML” they have a medium/large size in between medium and large. I think it’s 18.5
slope-duro-cross bike!!!!!!!!
Exactly!
Funny even Trek pro riders don't ride them as they spec them. Step it up Trek!
Although I DO have a trek fuel ; I DO NOT have these skills haha 😅
Where can we get a bottom headset cup spacer to ditch the knock block? I want to tailwhip my remedy...
Reverse components angle spacer
@@CamMcCaul Thanks dawg!!!
6:30 why is that music playing
Have a trek fuel ex. So iiiiilllllllll
hell ya
@@CamMcCaul dreamy bike. Super agile. Looking at a trek ticket for fun.
