- Why working in the Middle East Won't make you rich. If you're coming to Kuwait / Qatar / UAE with the sole intention of earning/saving money as many people do, then just be aware of how easy it is to live the high life in a wealthy gulf country for several years and have little or nothing to show for it. It happens a lot.

Whichever country you stay in.. the basic rule of economics is to save half your salary per month without fail. Never splurge!
And invest
You may not get rich, but you will be enriched by living there.
Nicely put! So true, couldn't have put it better myself.
I was going to comment exactly the same :D
I totally disagree! Im working in Kuwait as a cabin crew and im saving! Not a lot but still and I can afford to buy some expensive things, after 3 -4 years of saving I can afford to buy a flat in my country which is Poland. It depends how u spend your money.
Hi, Do you know the average cost of living there? the rental price of a studio apartment, water and power bills, clothes and some meals eventually? Is it possible to live well getting about 700 KWD?
Well, but buy the full apartment or you mean with mortgage? Cause anyone with just saving 1000€/month after one year or two could make a downpayment and then get from there
@@Shopmix-cj8vu yes, if your alone. After all it depends how you spend your money 🤷🏽♂️

I love this video!!!! I'm Arabic from Palestine by the way ❤️✔️
Well hello! Another upload, what a treat!
Another great upload! Thanks!
It all comes down to your personal lifestyle and how disciplined you are with your cash. I'm in my eleventh year in Dubai and I'm moving home to Australia this year semi retired.
Good for you. Nice work.

U my teacher. Arabic and also english
Hey can i meet you in kuwait on staurday sharq fish market
Mike Still what you said is true to every bit. Been here for 6 months now and I can already relate😁
Your maths was way off there...I mean 30k a year savings on a 2.5k monthly salary? If your accommodation and bills are covered...other than food and travel what are you spending your money on? Even if out of that 2.5k you spent 1k just on food and travel, that 1.5k is a very descent amount of monthly saving per year for an ordinary teacher...something that would be very difficult for a teacher to do in UK/US.
@@mizanulkarim7648 I wouldnt know for sure but I was born and lived in Bahrain and Dubai aswell and the only reason people came to Bahrain during the weekend was to drink and party. If you drink every weekend that means you're also having to pay for a hotel room and if you do that every weekend (which alot of Kuwaitis and Saudis do) it can be quite expensive. Unecessary to do it every weekend if you ask me but different people have different spending habits :)
You're in Doha!!! Lucky you! ❤️ Lots of love from Germany Habibi! :*
@T I Heyyy, ich wohne bei Frankfurt am Main! Ich spreche bereits Arabisch, aber ich schaue Mike's Videos, weil er so süß ist! ❤️ Ich liebe seine Vlogs. War selbst so oft in Middle East.

The way I see it is when you teach overseas your salary is not taxable and you're stranded all alone in a foreign country therefore you save a shit ton of money
Unless you're american
I’m loving these videos! I love your honesty and btw you’re a great narrator! ❤️
thank you!
Can you make a video summarising ur life journey. Like how u came to learn Arabic, education, works, upbringing etc....
You will not get "RICH" by working anywhere but you will have the savings to start something for your life
Starting what? Most expats here are middle aged single/divorced, I dunno why they keep saving if they were planning to retire there.
I believe that this applies anywhere. But its good that u explained it but if u want to get rich u should try yr best investing ur money
Liked and subbed. Working in Doha
Salam , well done you videoa
s so useful,
You are visit iraq?
Very I interesting informations! 😉 Like and support from London!
if you don't go overboard on spending when you come to the middle east, you will be fine. obviously some things are gonna be part of the package like regular eating out. car is a must in the middle east unless you get plenty of free time to travel. but base pay needs to be high enough to sustain a western lifestyle.
When I worked in Jubail I bought a Canadian-made Chevy Impala for 6000 Riyals. It was in the shop a few times, but did me proud, all in all. When I worked in Abu Dhabi I used taxis. They were plentiful, and cheap as chips. That was back in the 1980s.
What about if you want to be a professor at a university versus a teacher at school? (Masters level vs doctoral degree). Can you save more? Also, can you please share a link of some of the websites/schools/universities where expats can apply for teaching jobs in the Middle East?
I think it really depends on your current tax band in the UK and your profession/job. The higher your tax band the more money you save. For example if your marginal tax rate is around 40% and you are offered the same salary tax free, you are saving nearly twice as fast as you would be in the UK (keeping all other costs equal).
There are certain professions which pay significantly more in the Gulf when compared to the UK. Doctors in the UK earn considerably less. The starting salary for a GP in the UAE is ~£5k a month compared to ~£3k in the UK.
Highly agree with your statements. All the people who live outside think working in middle east will make you rich but thats not true at all plus most high position jobs are reserved for the citizens of the country
Tell them it's like 50 AED for a Heineken and they'll go running 😂
If you save money in any profession and make wise investments you may not get rich but over time you can become wealthy
100% i agree
Couldn't be more right
Hey Mike I currently live in the UK and I'm wanting to come the middle east and work in engineering field I am a qualified mechanical engineer nvq level 3 any advice on applying for job over there
Hi Mike,
I’m Saudi and I was really wondering, what difficulties a guy from the UK or the US might face in order to find a job, find a place to live, etc...?
And what might be the reasons for him to live in the Middle East?
I don't think that's absolutely true Mike it depends on your background and which lifestyle you get used to.
Regards👍
For 30k/year is it not worth at all bro.
Minimun 150k plus benefits, than we can talk about it.
It's not, it's business.
@@rjmoney9 totally agree with your message, that is just my opinion anyway. For me, for my job, the minimal salary I would accept is that one. Then of course anyone have different prospective and expectations.

Hey, I'm curious i really would love to live in Kuwait for the rest of my life I want to know the key points on what I can do to make sure I dont do anything wrong. How much money would I actually need before moving out to Kuwait and finding a job?
I think you’ll need a lot since you don’t get paid much in jobs there money enough for settling down there enough to pay for apartment rent for a year at Least
In kuwait are there any universities to study mechatronics
It’s so hard to speak English it always break my tongue I should adopt the British accent xD
I don't think getting rich there is that easy or available for everyone as same but, still the person will have a better living conditions than in other places.
And question please, why do you like the Middle East countries that much, i mean have you ever been to one of the Arabian countries in Africa?
Why you not come Saudi Arabia and Oman😢😢 I want to meet you please لماذا لا تريد أن تأتي إلى السعودية وعمان انا أود أن اقابلك 😢😢

Well no shit. Ofcourse You CAAN be rich. But its not easy. I mean if youre teaching you can be a professor. You get mad bucks from that job.

In Arabian Gulf countries you can live as rich people but you cannot be rich easy lol 😝

Isn't this just the same for anywhere you live or work in the world? Don't be an idiot and just live a modest lifestyle.
You and me might think so but you might be surprised at how few people see it this way
I don't think our host makes a very convincing case here. He acknowledges the salary is good, and even if - for the sake of your health - you pay the £200 per month for a health club, the eating in the "nice fancy ex pat American western restaurants" is merely an unnecessary expense unless they are the only source of nourishment.
The same is true of the 3 month holidays, "spending like a prince" will deplete your finances wherever you are in the world. Why not returns to the UK? Or better yet find other work to do, privately tutor slow lazy kids to help them keep up, or better yet, tutor the children of the poor for free as an act of charity. The time spent will keep you away from other temptations.

So you didn’t get rich because you spent the three months not teaching on traveling and spending your money. If I make 30k a year and pay no rent and live way below my means for a couple years you can easily save around 200k. Having 200k may not mean you are rich but it definitely mean you are really well off.
how will you save 200k in a couple of years?
Let’s say you make 35000$ a year that’s around 3000$ a month. If you don’t pay rent and try to save 2200$ of it every month it will be 26400. Also you will have to live below your means like not traveling and not eating out. I live in Middle East and food is super cheap. So I am pretty sure you can easily buy food and other needs with 800$ a month since your rent is free. In 8 years if you live like that you can sure save more than 200k USD. But like you say in the video if you spend all that money traveling around and paying for all these travels fares and hotels it won’t be easy to save a lot of money. The point here is having 200k isn’t that hard to get if you make 35k a year without tax and free accommodation. But also having 200k doesn’t mean you are rich it only means your are in a good position financially
Okay I get it. Yes if you spend many years like this you can save a lot of money. But like you say you have to be disciplined with what you spend (or don’t spend!)
Mike Still we really can make a business and provide our family, kids, our kids family etc lol

So what!
I know what he is saying, thanks.
so u thgt u wer going to gt rich making 30k a yer? lol did yor mum tell u tht?
Earning £30k a year in the middle east with zero tax and expenses is the equivalent of earning more like £80k+ in the UK once you've deducted taxes and rent and bills etc.
If you are smart you can save 90% of your income working in the middle east and come home with £25k in the bank after one year. That's pretty good money in the UK at least...
@@MikeStillUK still not going to become rich frm tht aloine, but yes gud coin.
MIDDLE EAST MENTALITY SHOULD BE CHANGED THEY FORGOT THEY R MUSLIM PPL YET THEY CALL WORKERS MISKIN MEAN POOR GUY........WTF BEHAVIOUR IS DIS?
No shit teaching won't make u rich. An important profession like Engineering is much different.
