I had a white '70 back in the day. 400 RamAir III - turbo 400. Freaking awesome car. Had so much fun with it! Guy I sold it to ran it at high speed without header gaskets and it caught fire and burned to a crisp at the side of the road. Broke my heart to see the pics.

Hey, thanks so much for the video, brought back so many memories, of a time , perhaps the best times of my life. I have, own a 1967 Shelby GT500 dual 4 427 Tunnel Port cid side oiler, still have the car, although in need of restro and several motors and Dan Williams trans. We raced IMSA, SCCA, 12 hrs Sebring, 24 of Daytona and one or two trans am races on it. I raced in IMSA and SCCA mostly. We traveled mostly the SE USA and did it all with my own little shop, inside a gas station, sometimes worked till 2am, then on the road to a race, very very budget racing. But, I gotta tell you, it was some of the best times ever, so much of a thrill with all those ponies in my hands.
When I think back, it may have never really mattered if we won, it was the journey.

The most impressive thing (and I have no idea if the Cobra was sandbagging or not) is that the Pontiac hangs with a car that's at least a half ton (or more) lighter. That big block Pontiac is music to my ears.

I put 3.08 gears on my 73 SD-455 with M22 a few years back and took it on highway 5 here in ca barely punched the pedal got to 120 mph with no one around me and let me tell you, that felt great.

In 1977 I bought an off the showroom floor all power jet blk over blk Trans Am, 4 yrs after paying it off I traded it in for a new used 1974 white over blk Trans Am, kept it a couple yrs then traded it for a 1969 xlch ironhead harley davidson kickstrt sportster, and after 2 wipeouts I sold it for a 1972 pontiac espirit. Pontiac Diehard💪

Chevy engineers in 53/54 had advance looks at the upcoming Pontiac OHV V8's and copied many of the best design features into their new small block V8,, the Pontiac V8 was slightly larger physically and in it's best iterations you had SBC efficiency with BBC displacement,, BBC's always had head to deck sealing issues and odd intake ports which the Poncho's had fixed... The NASCAR Pontiac blocks had dry sump oiling and won championships for many years. Basically although the later Trans Ams gave Pontiac an image of a car covered in stickers they really had the good "go fast" heritage and are somewhere between the original SBC's and the newer LS series in engineering goodness...

the cobra has a hp to weight ratio advantage that's where the driver comes in. if these races were about the fastest car you wouldn't even bother racing just look at the build sheet and declare a winner. thats why they call it racing because a good driver can take a car that maybe at a disadvantage and win the race not because the other driver was bad . just on that day he was able to win the race

There is nothing, nor will there ever be anything like the sound of a big American V-8. I love the Trans Am. A great car with a great history both on and off the track. However, there is no car like the 427 Cobra. Never has been, never will be.
I know that I'm late as shit, but THAT was some fine ass driving...any time that you can out drive a guy in a Cobra...DAMN RIGHT! They can talk all the shit they want about the Cobra driver, but it seems to me that he was holding his own for a minute...until he gets out classd! Good job brother...run 'em til the wheels fall off!

Good race...but Roger better be glad the Cobra 'sprung a leak'...I really don't think he could have taken him otherwise...that Cobra was TIGHT, and from the first-half performance, he seemed to have a much crisper shift-and-accelerate response (of course, I'm not sure of the weight difference...but all tubular, that TA can't be giving away that much weight).
Yeah, right. Based on the fact that the Cobra started in the #1 pole position and then Roger reeled him in and passed him (more than once) as well as leading most of the race between the two, tells me that even had the Cobra stayed in it, Roger would have still beat him.

My 1st Pontiac was a new 2009 G8GT - nice car. Then Pontiac goes out of business. Ouch! In the 70s, I helped my buddies fix up a 56 Pontiac Chieftain. Cool looks, but what a tank, the rebuilt 317? was modded for some go. I also drove my friends 71 Pontiac Trans Am 455 HO with 4-speed. That was bad ass - awesome looks and performance.

It's a Pontiac big block built by butler here n the us if I recall correctly. About 650 hp.

I bet the cobra is 2 times harder to drive...change cars and this bolliger guy gets spanked really bad...and for all the other cars on track..he just has 200 or 300 plus horsepower...no real competition....still no heel/toe...so no real classic race driver for me....

Cobra was faster car with worse driver.
He had the weight advantage (Cobra) but the more he tried to get a head of him, the more he fucked up in the corners, thus losing the advantage.
It's quite clear he pushed the engine... and everything else too far trying to stay ahead.
He might have been faster had he been disciplined ..
