Thankfully the skepticism of Christianity in the mid 20th century has turned into skepticism of the skeptics. Blessings to you Mr. Pitre for your willingness to recover the divinity of Jesus and help re-enchant the world with the mystery and authority of God.
Fascinating conversation. Dr. Pitre is a true Master of the Sacred Page. Can’t get enough of his incredible work. Thank you for interviewing him, Dr. Chapp.
Piercing insight gentlemen. Dr Pitre's 'Introduction to the OT', with Dr Bergsma, was a real turning point in my life - a tome I revisit each Lent. Pax Christi +.
I'm a Protestant, but Dr Pitre's book is the best book I have read in years on Historical Jesus/Christology/Christianity themes. I wanted to underline more than half of the book's prose. I may need to buy a second copy to have one unmarked, lol. I read Rudolph Bultmann early in my life, and its been a lifelong recovery from the hyper skepticism, of that kind of interpretation. I will be referring to it for years to come. I hope it gets a wide hearing and sells good. It's something that every skeptical Christian at least, should read. Thank you Larry for this interview as well.
1:05:25 “I’m not Dr. Phil” 😂😂 Seriously this is the best video I’ve seen on this topic. Great work fellas. Edit- Dr. Chapp’s sense of humor is killing me
Bart Erhman is a friend and colleague of mine at the University of North Carolina. Your comment, “Brant Pitre DESTROYED Bart Erhman,” hurts my heart. I wonder if it hurts Christ’s heart as well? 🕊
@@judygaleinchapelhill Though I disagree with Dr. Erhman on Catholic issues in the Bible such as the divinity of Jesus, I respect his universally accepted biblical scholarship. He has vigorously defended the historicity of Jesus in debates with atheists. I pray that sometime in the future he just as vigorously defends the divinity of Jesus.
This is an excellent video discussing Brant's excellent book. Definitely a "page turner." QUESTION: Which books by Martin Hengel are recommended on this topic, if any?
He does turn the religion on its head- proclaiming that only He has knowledge of God, and ever flouting decorum, breaking non-negotiable rules, then distaining blood family ties,. Heavens, he ends by the injunction to drink his blood and drink his flesh! The temple becomes irrelevant, He is the temple! The poor Pharisees and scribes and normal people!
there is this rumor that's been going around since maybe 2300 years that the hebrews had lost their way. they lost the stories, texts, and rabbis to time and memories. Then finding themselves back in Judah after basically being thrown out of Babylon, discovered that what their grandparents told them about their history was lost to time, sand, occupation, and quite frankly better stories. As the rumor goes 80 or was it 70 people calling themselves rabbis (because there were no rabbis left) moved to Alexandria and learned greek. once they had a bit of a greek tongue were then able to ask the Greeks in Alexandria to help them write their story in greek, because is was so articulate and pliable. They were able to express in greek what they could never say in a lost and forgotten text. and, it seems the stories you are telling happened 300 years later. and it seems to be that the person you are referring to i.e., yesus, was a bit of a trickster/con. have you heard he planned his own death because he knew of an antidote for a drug he took before hanging on a tree? of course, it's a rumor just like everything else from 2000 years ago. I wonder if either one of you has heard about these stories. or, is this just more jealousy from people who don't agree with your understanding?

@ We all need to repent. 🕊
For me, the transfiguration narrative is especially exciting with inciteful comments on why Moses and Elijah appear with Jesus.

❤❤❤
I'm almost done with Dr Pitre's THE CASE FOR JESUS. Great way to end 2024!
Dosent Moses need to wear a veil when his face becomes brilliantly radient after talking with God upon the mountain?
For the sake of his people. He scared them😮

Hm, who can I trust? The one who laid down his life for me or the rumor mill? Gee that's a tough one.
lol, how gullible lol
