  • I had no idea that 2 barrels have become as rare as hens teeth or that there are not so inexpensive Chinese knockoffs.

Your video was a great find. Being a DIY guy needed help. Best help was seeing that your rebuilt carb was like one I got and linkage connects were different from my old carbeurator. You did great job showing me how to work around that.

I see a hole in the armpit, I feel assured I'm watching a real mechanic. This video helped out a lot for a diy install my friend & I did this week.

being watching your videos for a while. This carburetor is not a copy of a Holley, It's a Motorcraft 2150. A Ford carburetor. The original equipment for that 289 is a Autolite 2100, the older brother of the 2150. They also could come with the Autolite 4100 four barrel, and Holley actually bought from Ford the Autolite 2100 and 4100 industrial designs, so they could use the annular discharge secondary ventures on their own carburetors. The Autolites and Motorcraft are much superior to Holley. They won't leak, and have no gaskets below the fuel line. Super easy to work on. One thing one has to pay attention when installing a Mortorcraft in place of a Autolite, is to have the same venture size, and same codes on the secondary venture, plus same size jets. The venture size is marked on the left side of the carburetor, just by the accelerator pump pull lever. It can be a 1.08, a 1.12, a 1.23 and so on. Mustangs used 1.08. Most Motorcrafts are 1.08, but there were bigger ones, for big block motors with two barrel carbs.

Nice lil mustang! I switched my 67 289 Galaxie to an Edelbrock (Carter AFB) back in 2003. Had no idea that those Autolite/Motorcraft 2 barrels had gotten so scarce and expensive. I still have it all, from manifold to air cleaner....

672E galaxie I still have all of my original stuff for my 65 Fairlane 289. I will keep all of my stuff for now only because it is still on the engine and it runs nearly perfect.

That's all good advise. I went with a 350cfm Holley with a manual choke for my 65 289 Mustang. It had a 73 2100 on it from a Mercury. Could have rebuilt it but went with a Holley remanufactured for $229. Wanted a choke back on it .

Don't forget that 2 barrel carburetors are rated at 3 inches of vacuum and 4 barrel carburetors are rated at 1.5 inches of vacuum, too. A 350 CFM 2 barrel just about perfect for a stock 289 or even a warmed up 289. (Divide 350 CFM by 1.414 and you get about 495 CFM rated at 3 inches of Vacuum). Do the math. 495 equivalent CFM is just about perfect for a 289 even with a cam upgrade.

I had a Ford 302 powered behemoth. I was so tempted to convert it to a 4bbl induction . anyways there is another step after new / used carb install. that is to tune the carb. no carb out of the box is jetted right for your application. 10 years ago I got lazy and invested in a wide band O2 data logging meter. sure made tuning carbs a lot easier than seat of the pants feel, plug color reading. The Motomaster carb that was on that 302 was a real pig. the ignition system was not worth a plugged nickel . The 318 powered Dart I had previous to that was the worst .. live an learn. All GM products now. Now I know how to tune Quadrajets.

I see you have a few issues to address.First off, I would have adjusted the float height, very rare for them to be perfect out of the box.Second I would have checked the jet size of the new vs the old carb.Three I would have to no max fuel pressure the new carb. is rated for.Looks like a new fuel pump has been installed on the car.I always use a fuel regulator this will control the bowl from over filling.Four I wouldn't use a China made carburetor, no way.

what is the fitting on the top front of carburetor for (above float)? I noticed it was not connected. Thank you...good video.

that's another fuel bowl vent that has a fitting that goes to the evap can down low for emissions. but this car probably doesn't have the emissions can being a 65 but the "jobber" carburetor doesn't know that. cap it.

I have a 65 mustang/ 289. Purchased it last year. The intake manifold was removed by previous owner. I am thinking about installing a new one. Is it worth the effort? Any suggestions appreciated.

Chinese carb you’ll be pulling off in 3-6 months, did the same with my Yamaha Blaster, glad I kept OEM carb, ended up buying rebuild kit and throwing away that burred up cheap Chinese carb, not worth the effort.

hmmm....working with the same shit carb. I noticed a couple of things. One, the heat choke isn't connected, and two, the vacuum advance is not connected. How in the hell do you not have a HUGE vacuum leak?!
