Lenore’s death gets me every time 😔 I took the line of “next generation” too literally & thought she would be skipped. I also really love the scene with Annabel. She did an outstanding job with that monologue. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. “I see you. The poverty of you.” Poor woman.
The fact that the pure and good Annabel Lee is the same actress that played the insane and hateful Poppy in "The Haunting of Hill House" is crazy. The bust of the Greek goddess of wisdom, Pallas Athena that the raven perches upon represents sanity, wisdom, and scholarship. When the raven perches upon this statue of Athena, it visually represents the way the speaker's rationality is threatened by the raven's message.
While watching this show, I also was immersed into ideas of mortality and what it REALLY means to leave behind an honourable legacy. My guess is that Mike Flanagan was very cognizant about placing these lasting effects onto the viewer...the rascal! As for you questioning your legacy and minimizing your reactions as something to maybe not be too proud of, I say "pish-posh"! During the last few years, when people like me needed to isolate due to being immunocompromised, reactions such as yours (a kindly presenter reacting to shows or movies we love), was a source of great comfort. Don't underestimate the importance of that. These years have been extraordinarily difficult, and finding entertainment and connection during these times is a pretty nifty thing to provide.
You wondered two episodes ago whether Zuckerberg would be tragically taken out in some "accident' when his time comes. Verna gave each of the Usher kids an out and mentioned that it (their death) didn't have to happen this particuar way. They each were intent on making the wrong decision when it came time for them to meet Verna. Maybe some of the other rich, famous people met or will meet Verna for the final time while they are at home or in their sleep. There was an alternate life for each of them, as Verna mentioned, but I think that the Ushers could have still been rich and famous and gone out peacefully if they hadn't been such horribe people. In the end, it really didn't matter, a deal's a deal.
Antony and Cleopatra both died by suicide. The interesting thing about Roderick and Madeline is that they could have gone out together with more dignity. Verna gave them EVERY chance. Madeline's attempt to "loophole" Verna resulted in her worst nightmare - a man (Roderick) having power over her. Roderick's control of Madeline results in him being strangled in the same way that his mother almost strangled him as a child in their kitchen - but he was innocent then. Thanks for doing this series, I really enjoyed it!
I love your reactions. You should definetly watch the society of the snow. It just came out and it's my favourite movie already. I think you are going to have a lot of interesting things to say about that one
Thank you, Derek! 🏚 For the foreseeable future, whenever we'd like to enjoy some new *Mike* *Flanagan* brilliance, it'll be over on Prime Video. Stephen King's THE LIFE OF CHUCK is next. Some huge starpower is attached.

She really is a great actor 😮❤
I still love that Verna is an anagram for raven :D

That was the episode I realised that no matter how bad Madeline was, Roderick was worse.

This series was simply brilliant!!

“Et tu, Brute?" translates into English as "You too, Brutus?" These were Julius Caesar's dying words after being stabbed by other Roman leaders.
The scene with Lenore really hits me each time, but seeing the emotion’s resonating from you hit me just a bit more😢
Your face at the end 😵
Great insights to a brilliant series. I place it on par with Midnight Mass and Hill House👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎
