That kid’s gonna be a perfect first responder, he already has the instinct to act fast.

I just read an article about him and apparently he didn't have a cell phone. His father said that he doesn't give him a cellphone because that way he has to look around, interact, and be able to respond to what's happening and be part of the world. Imagine that. It's really pretty depressing how connected kids are to their phones Non-Stop. I'm so glad that wasn't my childhood. There were so many great things that I was able to see on my way to school, on my way to the park. And now when I walk around all I see are people including children, very young children even, with their faces stuck in their phones. I've actually twice had to stop somebody from walking in front of a bus. I swear people just don't know what they're missing out on by burying their face in a little computer.

And yet luckily someone had a cell phone to call 911

The thinking on the fathers part is not wrong, but it's extremly naive and narrowminded.
Giving the kid a phone with only calling capacities and sms are good enough, such phones are still made today. Back in my day calling and SMS was all we had and it barely distracted at all.

I think drivers should teach kids how to stop buses incase of emergencies like that!! Just SHOWING them how to stop the bus incase of those situations! Most kids are taught about the emergency CB radio's. But showing them how to stop the bus incase of scenario's where the driver gets knocked out, or a medical emergency could save the lives of everyone on the bus! Like this heroic kid did!

Good move son! But while ppl are donating to his gofund me , don't forget about Lahaina fire victims!! Or the bus driver who is out of work for 6 months now!! The boy says he didn't expect anything and was just stopping the bus.. lives saved is good payment no?? I mean he deserves recognition and that $ will likely be used for something good but the driver has 3 young kids and a mortgage!

I just want to know about the mechanics of it. Did his foot really reach past the driver's legs to the brake pedal? Or did he just attempt that, and when it fail solve it with the gear shift or handbrake?
Not trying to make it sound like I doubt what happened, just interested in how one correctly stops a car with a driver in it; it's intriguing.

He used the emergency handbrake and turning the wheel. That’s how

Dillon, you aren't a hero so much as a fine young man who is being g raised correctly by loving parents. I see at least 3 heroes here.
