  • THE ALAN PARSONS SYMPHONIC PROJECT “LIVE IN COLOMBIA” - AVAILABLE AS DVD, BLU-RAY, 2-CD DIGIPAK, 3 VINYL GATEFOLD AND DIGITAL
On the evening of August 31st, 2013, a large crowd gathered at Parque Pies Descalzos in Medellín, Colombia. When Alan Parsons appeared on stage, along with the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra and his band the audience went wild. This is an audio visual document of that incredible evening.
THE ALAN PARSONS SYMPHONIC PROJECT “Live in Colombia” is available now on earMUSIC as DVD, Blu-ray, 2-CD digipak, 3 x Vinyl, and download.
Alan Parsons was 19 years old when he landed a job at the world famous Abbey Road Studios, an important first step on his journey to becoming a world class engineer, producer and artist. Following his beginnings with George Martin and The Beatles, his contribution to Pink Floyd’s classic ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ earned him worldwide attention. As a producer he had many hits with Pilot, John Miles, Ambrosia and Al Stewart. Together with his manager and creative partner at the time, Eric Woolfson, he developed the Alan Parsons Project.
Following their debut album “Tales Of Mystery And Imagination“ (1976), they released a series of hit albums; namely “I Robot” (1977), “Pyramid” (1978), “The Turn of a Friendly Card” (1980), “Eye in the Sky” (1982), “Ammonia Avenue” (1984), “Vulture Culture” (1985), “Stereotomy” (1986) and “Gaudi” (1987).
Then Parsons and Woolfson called it a day, but Parsons had ambitions to perform the amazing music live. Now to the great delight of his fans, for the first time on a live video and audio recording, THE ALAN PARSONS SYMPHONIC PROJECT combines the talents of his amazing band with the lush sound of a 70-piece symphony orchestra, creating a very special show with unmatched quality. Together, they revitalize hits such as “Eye In The Sky“, “Don’t Answer Me“ and “Sirius“.
The lineup consists of Alan Parsons on acoustic guitar, keys, and vocals, P.J. Olsson (lead vocals), Alastair Greene (guitar, vocals), Guy Erez (bass, vocals), Danny Thompson (drums, vocals), Tom Brooks (keyboards, vocals) und Todd Cooper (saxophone, guitar, percussion, vocals). Alejandro Posada conducts the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra

This is phenomenal. Timeless. I grew up with this music and it still touches my existence. Pyramid. Tales of Mystery and Imagination. Eye in the Sky. I ROBOT. Turn of a Friendly Card, and all the others. Classic, well crafted, engineered to perfection. All the singers and players. Lenny, Ian, ERIC, every one of you were and are the best. This art will live forever. Many thanks for all the many memories. Peace.

I really love when classic rock songs add symphonic music and in this case this song was made with a symphony or at least that is the way it sounds on the record.

Cool that he’s using the readings of Poe that Orson Welles did and offered them to Parsons back in the day. Although the readings came too late for the original recordings, they were included in the cassette remaster that was issued in the 80s. The Deluxe edition presents both versions.

The singer on the studio album (1977) is Allan Clarke, originally from The Hollies. Right after their 1971 album "Distant Light", Clarke left the band to pursue a solo career. The Hollies' biggest hit "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" (with Clarke on lead vocals and lead guitar) hadn't quite hit the mainstream when he left the band. It was an international hit. Clarke rejoined The Hollies in 1973.

I've seen a few "symphonic" rock concerts. Learning from the financial disaster of ELP, they don't take the orchestra with them. They find a competent local orchestra, haggle the price and sign a contract (at least 1 practice session + night of event contract). They send charts, backing tracks, cues and stuff in advance to the conductor and usually just trust the conductor will get it together. Now... the catering bill is a different story.

I guess it's hard to find a vocalist(s) with the dynamic passion and range of APP's original vocalists of yore. All these vocalists Alan has hired in the last decade or so have been good, but certainly not 'standouts'. This kind of perfectionist music demands the very best in order to do justice to the songs! I'm really surprised that Alan Parsons would 'settle' for 'good' when his music demands 'superb/the best'!

@@pamelapickett4004 Again, guys like Lambert are good vocalists, but a FAR cry from the original greater ones whose shoes they are trying to fill. It's like a Porsche with 3 top notch wheels/tires, and the 4th being a bicycle rim/tire! Queen's choice, however, is a lot better than Alan Parson's choice in replacement vocalists. That said, it's still great to be able to see/hear some of the great, timeless bands of yore still performing live!

Chi ascolta questo grido di libertà oggi 25 ottobre 2023?
I breakdown in the middle and lose my thread
No one can understand a word that I say
When I breakdown just a little and lose my head
Nothing I try to do can work the same way
Any time it happened, I'd get over it
With a little help from all my best friends
Anybody else could see what's wrong with me
But they walk away and just pretend
    When I breakdown
I breakdown in the middle and lose my thread
No one can understand a word that I say
When I breakdown just a little and lose my head
Nothing I try to do can work the same way
Where are all the friends who used to talk to me?
All they ever told me was good news
People that I've never seen are kind to me
Is it any wonder I'm confused?
    When I breakdown
    When I breakdown
    Take the wall away
(Freedom, freedom, we will not obey)
(Freedom, freedom, take the wall away)
    Where are all my friends?
    I'm so confused
    Take the wall away
    (Freedom, freedom)
    Take the wall away
    (Freedom, freedom)
    Will somebody help me?
    The Raven
    The clock struck midnight
    And through my sleeping
I heard a tapping at my door
I looked but nothing lay in the darkness
And so I turned inside once more
    To my amazement
    There stood a raven
Whose shadow hung above my door
    Then through the darkness
    It spoke that one word
That I shall hear forever more
    Nevermore
    Thus quoth the raven, nevermore
And still the raven remains in my room
No matter how much I implore
    No words can soothe him
    No prayer remove him
And I must hear for evermore
    Quoth the raven, nevermore
    Thus quoth the raven
    Nevermore

LEONARD WHITING did the original, superb ... ( Romeo of " Romeo and Juliet ") much better , I agree. Go list to the original no comparison. ruclips.net/video/YAE1XTvKLXA/видео.html

Yes it was Leonard Whiting. He'd been a child actor and singer. Played the Artful Dodger in "Oliver" on the West End. A beautifully nuanced vocal on The Raven. And for sure, the original version is much better but only on vinyl, nothing live that I can find. This is the long version ruclips.net/video/EuGXpFQLHu8/видео.html

A little disappointing because the symphonic aspect is not as obvious as it is in symphonic version of, say, Metallica and Pink Floyd that I've heard, but still good.
I was a fan of Edgar Allen Poe practically from birth. When I heard an album was being done with songs that were exclusive taken from Poe stories, I was almost first in line to buy it. From that day I was hooked on Alan Parsons.
