Nice vid. Fished it a couple of times recently and only had a few smaller perch. Seeing you catch with the smaller lures has given me confidence to scale down. Thanks.
Lovely session despite the weather. The fish that was meant to be - nice to see it turned out a great day after losing nice fish. Was never into fresh water fishing much but watching your vids make it very compelling. Beautifully filmed too, thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Glad you liked it. The weather was forecast so wasn't too bad on the day. Just a little soggy by the end. Freshwater fishing is great when the coast is rough. You should try it. A fish is a fish no matter where you catch it.
Brilliant video, thank you. That brought back a lot of happy memories as, I lived in Exerter for 4 years and spent a lot of time on the canal Perch fishing, I can't remember having single Pike in that time but, I did have a lot of Perch upto around two pounds. I did see a 4 lb'r landed oposite the Double Lock pub right by the lock gates, stunning fish ! you culd always try Tuf lock and fish by the entrance to the basin, I had a string of 1lb plus fish there and it is worth fishing the Quay at the town end for hoards of litle uns also the River Exe is worth a go had some good fish from there.
Thanks Alan. I will definitely try some different stretches. The fish are in there it's just a case of finding them. Think I might start in Exeter next time and work my way out.
@@FishingAroundBudleigh Good call but it's a fair old hike to cover the whole canal in one day 🤔😃. I have spent, almost an entire day, with occasional stops for coffee and lunch, just wasping in and around the quay and very short section of river but, whatever you chose, Tight lines and maximum enjoyment. 👍🎣👍
1:16 - I have the same experience. Im trying to fish for some perch with a 6-7cm shad but end up catching all these small pike! The pike just seem to love these things more then the perch do!
@@FishingAroundBudleigh A private fishery in Broxbourne. Its predominantly a carp water but I throw lures for the perch and pike there as carp fishing bores me to death.
Haha. Know that feeling. I first went to the canal to see if it was worth fishing for carp. But haven't fished for carp yet. Much prefer keeping moving. Never was a fan of camping
@@FishingAroundBudleigh There are carp to be had from my local river and canal but unfortunately they are rarely put back in once caught - such as it is when you live in an heavily urbanised area. Not much pike here either. Not tried for the perch yet but i saw a tonne of them when the water was shallow during the heat wave. I often see a lot of fish fry too when out walking along the river so i'll eventually have to give it a go. Not seen anyone fishing here ever catch any perch though.
Going up the canal tomorrow again last trip was dreadful very slow with one about 8oz at double locks rest being micro wasps very interesting canal at Exeter we have had some incredible sessions then go back next day and it’s absolutely terrible stick at it and I’m sure Exeter will produce soon enough if your ever around I’m always happy for a weekend trip up Exeter fishing.. keep up the fantastic videos mate 🎣🎣 Ps it’s Tom Baron Just on my new account!
Good luck mate. I've had two decent sessions there now. Just need to find those Big Perch. That's the beauty of canal fishing. They can be anywhere! I think I'll be at Taunton Canal next session but will see about a weekend up at Exeter.
@@FishingAroundBudleigh yeah sounds awsome I went up there today lost a pb over 2lb second Chuck in the double locks got it to the surface and it spat the hook!! Bit gutted but an insensitive to carry on fishing there all winter.. we had probably 20 fish between us to 31 cm lost a the 3 biggest of the day but will be returning very soon got unfinished business ! 🫣😬
@@Ocean_City_lure_Angler gutted! But we'll done on the rest. The fish clearly like to move around. I'm interested to learn their patterns over the winter. Do you guys take scales? I had what I thought was a 3lb perch at Taunton. Turned out was just over a pound and a half. Very deceiving
@@FishingAroundBudleigh yeah we both bring scales down with us haven’t used them yet though mainly a unhooking mat with a measure on it will do though when we find a bigger fish.. that’s the other thing yesterday I spoke to the bailiff and he was saying his pb come out under the motorway bridge (3.6) on dropshotted worms and his brother had one over 5lb while pike fishing between the two bridges in city centre on the river so there’s definitely some good fish still about!
I’m more BFS on light Baitcaster. As said get a pike over 5lbs on 8lb braid and it’s different fishing altogether. I also bass fish on std lure gear BFS definitely another level.
@@FishingAroundBudleigh ...yep they were nice fish on that gear no doubt... a real bonus ! I past a couple of LRF fishing folk they other day just before the swing bridge...possibly husband and wife.
I heard of nets and long lines down towards the turflocks .. I see shonky looking tracksuited folk without landing mats or landing nets fishing the Exeter Canal.. you dare not approach as you'll probably just get a load of pigeon English verbal.

Thanks. Glad you like it. I find the smaller and slower I go the more I catch. 1 inch lures are more than big enough. Snack sized for any fish.
Cracking video dan, great way to show how excellent the tailwalk rods are
Cheers Paul. Glad you liked it. I love Tailwalk. From an ounce to a few pound feel amazing and they can handle anything. Beats a 13ft carp rod any day

Great fun on Ultra Light Gear though. Makes up the catch numbers. Whereabouts do you fish?

It's no good , I can't get my head around LRF . I'm obviously missing something. Beautiful little fish but...
Click the times and see what there is to love about LRF. Give m a 5lb Pike on a 4g Rod any day.
Pike 1 - 5:45
Pike 2 - 10:05
Pike 3 - 16:50

great stretch of water it's just a shame the vast majority of the big
fish have now been stolen or eaten
That's not good to hear. I've heard it about other canals but I guess it can happen anywhere. Such a shame
shocking....traps and nets retrieved from double locks area recently. I think times are changing 😉
