No idea why they didn’t upgrade the four wheel drive version instead. They could’ve even given the standard R8 version atleast 650hp. I hope specs on paper tremble against reality as this car is underwhelming compared to its older Quattro counterpart. Even an attempt to get rid of the soft limiter would be more appealing.
Audi sells significantly less than 1,000 R8's per year, so this limited edition of 333 cars is just an attempt to create demand. People love to buy anything limited edition as that implies reduced depreciation. The car looks badass though.
Sure, but why call it the GT? It just makes this car a disappointment... When, on paper, is a car to get excited about... But now it's just a let down.
£125k in the UK is considerably higher than the UK market for these right now... But, I'm guessing you're from another region. I will say that I wouldn't clear out my bank account to buy a car. I chose to part-finance so I retained some cash-flow as there can be surprising bills. I also got a warranty which saved me a lot of money!
I suppose for those of you who can’t get the new GT, you’re gonna hate a bit and that’s cool. But for those of us who do get one, we couldn’t be more pumped. So, I’m not going to let anyone steal my shine or that of the Audi R8 or any iteration. Having had three and soon to be four, it’s the best car I’ve ever had, bar none. And I’ve had them all except Bugatti and McLaren. Four Rings All The Way!!
Ha ha, well that's one way of looking at it... Or, that I'm such a huge fan of the brand and the GT badge that I wanted the 2nd gen GT to match, or exceed, the original in its distinctiveness and take over as the best they'd ever made... only to be disappointed. Even by Audi's own admission in their press materials, it's just an homage with "GT" in only part of its name, it's not the new R8 GT... I wouldn't want to take the shine off though. As I said in the video, it looks like a great car. Let's face it, you'll own probably the best 2nd gen R8 ever made... But just not the best R8 ever made 😉
This car isn't about raw numbers, It is just right that it has RWD only because this is a true drivers Car. Also more downforce equals less topspeed which is logical, there arent going to be many places where you can test that (even racetracks) Im not here to hate but dont you think you should drive it first before you judge that hard about this Gem of an Automobile?
Thanks for watching. I'm confused a bit though, because your comment says the same things as I said in my video - so we're not disagreeing on any of those points. I even said in the video: on paper, it's probably the best RWD edition ever [I even think it may be the best gen2 R8 ever too]... But my issue is with Audi using the R8GT badging... My video, in a nutshell says - it seems like a fantastic car, but it falls considerably short of what made the original R8 GT special - and even their own material says it only 'pays homage to the original R8 GT'... Which to me makes it a plaques and stripes parts-bin special that just rides the coat tails of the original GT badging... When, it could have stood on its own as a great car with its own branding... E.g. R8 Finale-Edition or R8 S or some other unique branding.
There have been a lot of "special versions" of audi cars this years witch are like this, only a few modifications... the tt has a lot of "limited versions" for example, its a shame, it seems to be only a marketing strat, when did they lost the passion..
Yeah, I mention the TT RS Iconic as an example in the video. I mean, I get it... It's a business but when the product loses its authenticity, it dilutes the brand IMHO... And brand is key to longevity. Thanks for watching!
Agreed. This GT is not so ‘GT’, it just use a original performance V10 engine with RWD and some performance parts😥,I think the GT need more power at least 20-30ps(we don’t need that so much but it makes SPECIAL) and more lightweight, more special material… But anyway it’s here and NA V10 engine is not easy to survive in 2022. R8 is my favorite car.
Man i love Audis so much but they aren’t really making any progress as compared to their competitors the new Audi models aren’t getting any power upgrades whereas bmw is making serious power upgrades in their cs cars like the M4 csl and M5 cs and the RS models of Audi are really slow like the new Rs6/Rs7 i feel sad for Audi .
So the RWD R8 isn't as fast 0-60 as the AWD and that's disappointing. Shorter gears and less top speed is disappointing. Drive both back to back on a mountain road and you will feel the opposite. You won't ever get to 200 mph and a lightweight rwd car has much more positives than losing a few tenths on a 0-60 sprint. Usually the Rwd cars are detuned. This isn't I see no loses here despite not having the most lightweight components. I would just install a lightweight battery and lightweight rear glass.
Oh, I get it... That's why I've got a GT Spyder rather than a Coupé, for the driving experience rather than numbers... As I said, "on paper" it's disappointing... And I do say later that it's likely one of the best Gen 2 R8s they've made. My main issue with this car is that it's being held up by many as the new GT and it falls short on so many fronts compared to the original GT... that I think they should have chosen a different name. Just my perspective.
Ive been waiting for this car….hoping it was going to be a Quattro. I would have put a deposit down had it been so. Instead Ill just keep my V10 Plus and finish the Competition parts change over. I have all the Competition parts except the wheels and body. Wheels I’m going BBS FI-R which have been on backorder for going on 1.5 years…BBS having supply chain issues too I guess. Body is next and then it will basically be a GT except quicker, faster, and will still drive in snow 😊
Sounds like an epic build! I think the point made in the video is that it's not really a GT, Audi hint at this in the name, and confirm it in the press materials as just an "homage" to the GT... The real GT is a different thing. Drives very differently. Feels completely different... Even in the opinion of people who've worked on R8s for Audi themselves (e.g. the guy at the end of the video). Happy to call yours and Audi's car GT "inspired" 😉 Thanks for watching 🙏
Couldn´t agree more, great video mate! So i decided to ged rid of my V10 2011 Coupe here in Germany to go in the market for a MK1 GT Spyder soon rather then the "new" R8 or the "new" GT 🙂I assume my money will be good spent this way!

That's the thing, it's just not worthy of considering it as a counterpart to the GT but could be a decent RWD performance parts edition

Absolutely! The real GT... Best R8 Ever Made 😉
I wish they just smacked a 710hp v10 price it at 400k for the last v10
