I’m officially a car nerd. I just sat with a cup of coffee and hung onto every word he was saying. Seems like he may be a man you will visit again in the future. Great video Sir .
I was so engrossed listening to Ricky that I wasn't really keeping track but, was this all on one take? It's one thing to know something but it's something else entirely to be able to communicate it, he seems to have both elements covered brilliantly.
I know. Can't believe the number of vids/people out there that talk about the R8 having a Lamborghini engine😖. I think the engine is actually made in Hungary and final assembly is done at neckersulm, but has always been an Audi engine. Jayemm did a vid recently on the differences and history. Well worth a watch.
This video should also be a warning to all those kids who rush out to get "Pop & Bang" maps for thier cars. The part at 12:00 where he talks about the cats destroying the engine is food for thought!
Oh it's worse than that. Catalytic converters kill engines in all good ways. One should always get in their car and drive it, but you see people start their car, let it sit for ten minutes etc. WRONG. Lots of fuel dilution to get cat heated up, bore wash and you're done. Get in car. Start car. Put seatbelt on. Drive. When engine and oil are warm, give it some.
Fascinating. If I had one of these I’d 100% bring it here after listening to that. They definitely seem like a slightly less terrifying ownership experience now too!
Absolutely. I took my R8 to him for a full service and carbon clean etc after buying it. Great lad. Pleasant and thoroughly knowledgeable and I'm at least four hours drive away. The running costs, for R8's at least, is definitely not too frightening for regular stuff and a level below the likes of many others.
Really liking this series Jay, so interesting and refreshing to see some new content that you don’t see with all the other RUclipsr owned gallardo’s. The R8 comparisons are extra interesting for me as I’ve cross shopped the two cars in the past. Keen to see more.
Huracan and G2 R8 bodies are built in Audi Sport’s Böllinger Höfe plant (Heilbronn) Both vehicles are painted at the Audi Neckarsulm plant. G2 R8 has final assembly back at Böllinger Höfe, Huracan’s final assembly is in Italy. (Sant’Agata) Engines for these cars are built in Audi’s Györ plant in Hungary.
I’ll be honest. I understood about 25% of that but what I did get was very informative and the rest I enjoyed trying to get my head around! Good video and would be absolutely confident taking my car to these guys.
Best content I've watched in some time. Many thanks & fair play for not butting in at all. ps How about a follow up video where we learn more about projects they have done / are doing... exposure for them whilst being great content
Absolutely fascinating, so much information packed into a short video. Buying a whole arm for a ball joint is mental! Those artificial costs are the difference between regular and supercars.
This man is "gold"... i would pledge that this video is "public service quality". So much information, so much experience... Great video, even if i dont even have the founds for any one of the cars mentioned Audi or Lambo, i just sat here listening.
Fascinating to listen to. Enjoying your pet project series. A suggestion maybe you should be onscreen as well and make it more of a two way discussion?
Fascinating insight, really enjoyed this video. The cats thing was interesting though and is part of the reason why I'm not so fond of the 'pops and bangs' modes on performance cars. I knew about cat damage in other cars but never realised it was so serious on these.
This guy is brilliant with both his knowledge and ability to convey it, I cover fishing on this channel and wish I was as fluid at speaking in front of a camera as he is. We need more of him!
Oh wow! Thank you so much for this in-depth technical talk about these engines where I’m sure most people thought they shared many more components. I’ll never have the chance to go on a super car journey, but this really is an engaging exploration into the whole experience. Keep ‘em coming! 😃
Who didn’t love this. !!!! ???? JayE. More of this engineering please. I like engineeringexplained YT channel. And I’m zero mechanically minded. I like to think I’m handy. I’m just not. But engineering is fascinating.
I didn't love it. The guy doing the talking was clearly knowledgeable and its a subject I do love. But the boring drony voice and the continual lack of t's used (sorry but it's a real pet hate) put me off so badly I turned the video off. It's a shame as I REALLY wanted to enjoy it
What a delight to listen to someone that really knows his stuff. I'm looking at a 5.0 SL and have 1 going for inspection alter this week. This video was more helpful to be well prepared than nearly everything else I saw on YT combined! Will check the second video too...
I'm really enjoying these lambo videos there really informative. I can relate to the parts sourcing. I know the price is not comparable but I have the same problem with my Proton savvy suspension components are impossible to get without importing them from Malaysia, makes MOT work a pain.
One of the best videos I've watched in a while. I have no reason to care about the internals of Lambo/Audi engines, but Ricky is a natural at talking about and explaining everything. Brilliant.
Thanks Jason, this is in my opinion (as an engineer) one of the best videos you've done. I know most people will find the detailed tech stuff more boring than just being out and hearing exhaust sound BUT this goes into a lot of the WHY high performance cars require routine maintenance. Thank you especially to Ricky for talking about it.
Loads of knowledge shared here which is great👍🏻 I wonder if all the modern cars with the chavvy backfiring exhausts will be sucking catalyst material back into their engines as mileage increases?
Such a great video... I had a mk1 gallardo and as matey said I had throttle body issues!!! Very very interesting. So great to hear someone just nerd out on interesting cars. And actually to learn something, about how and why these things do what they do.. LOVE IT 10/10 give us more !!!!!!!! Ps Loving the channel !
A 90 degree block(V8 based) instead of a 72 degree block is the reason for a split pin crank or 90/54 degree firing, just one more bit of information that may need to be explained.
I think he and the general public also have very different definitions of “the same engine”, that said it’s always nice to hear a pro speak on their trade
Thank you both. That was brilliant. I, sadly, understand only a small percentage of it. But still thoroughly enjoyed it. Great to see someone so knowledgeable and passionate.
Not even close. His knowledge is obviously good, but his whiny droning voice is off putting and the total inability to ever use the letter T when it appears in the middle or end of word is just plain lazy and makes you want to switch over. Replying to my own comment here just in case my reference to "boring expert" was misinterpreted. The play on words was related to his expertise regarding bores of engines, hence "boring expert". With regret, I realize that my first comment should have been, "Ironically you are both experts in boring, though in completely different fields".
What a lovely guy. The depth of knowledge these engineers have is impressive and is so reassuring when you have bet the house on a car like a Gallardo!
Fascinating listening to someone who obviously knows what they are talking about. 👌
yeah he's a genuis
Agreed, a little worrying to hear about the car "eating cats" though, our ginger Tom ran out of the room when he heard that.
Couldn’t agree more
Subtle dig at James? 😁😁😁
Thank you!!
So refreshing to just let the man speak, no interrupting and whatnot - thanks James. I could listen to Ricky all day talking about Lambo engines.
Damn.... yes only noticed when read your comment.
Or indeed anything. Clever bloke, Ricky.

Lock this guy in the workshop with a camera and you have free content for life.
Lol 😆 lol 😆 hilarious.. I laughed out loud! Content for life. I like that.
What a very knowledgeable guy! Everyone in the super car repair/maintenance repair business should be this good!
These technical videos are really interesting, even if you don't own a Lamborghini...!

This is exactly why this channel is in my top 5 on RUclips, in addition to brutal honesty sometimes as well😎🇺🇸
Thanks for saying that the RS6 V10 is not a Lamborghini engine
i've seen bunch of facebook ads, where the owners are pitching their RS6 with a Gallardo engine lol

Wow... what a knowledgeable guy.. I'm a RS6 owner and learnt more in 20 minutes than my years of owning the car.. Subbed
Can’t recall the last YT video I didn’t skip ! A really good watch,
Thanks James, Ricky. Love to hear a similar in depth perspective on recent'ish Ferrari V8's and V12's.
Same here! Would love to hear a F136 V8 review from the F430 and 458. Best V8 Ferrari made in my opinion.
Very cool. I love this level of detail and information.
Jay, I really appreciate the wide range of content you provide, along with an endless effort to keep things fresh, very enjoyable. Thanks.

There is a company where I am in Canada that upgrades these the older throttle bodies and makes them SUPER reliable.
What’s the company name and website?
