    Looks awesome! I personally would leave about 6” without redguard around the drain. Any water that gets under the tile will work it’s way into the drain through the weep holes.

    The pvc liner is more than enough, believe me water somehow will get under the regard where it meets the drain. I like my shower pan to breathe and regard will prevent that. Just my opinion, I'm old school.

      That video is almost 2 years old. Lately I’ve been using Schluter products and their shower pans. I really like using those systems and much easier to install. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Vinny the handyman I’ve demo showers before where they have the red guard like this and it kinda peels off I only apply it to the joints only not the whole thing.

    Wouldn’t water go underneath that bottom 1/2”. Should that be sealed off?

    • @vinnythehandyman
      @vinnythehandyman  Год назад +1

      Bottom of drywall was coated and inside of crack so water doesn’t travel underneath. You can also use red guard tape as well to seal. If you’re new at this just use barrier tape.

    Two advices:
    1- You need seal the edges with membrane or sealant
    2- Try using Hydroban or AquaDefense instead RedGard.. much better for waterproofing!
    You will have a shower for the next 40 years!

      I agree ☝️ Red guard is one option but their are many more. Video is a little old but definitely more options out there.

    What did you use for the seams and inside corners?

      @vinnythehandyman  Год назад +1

      Red guard has their own waterproof tape. You can also use Schluter tape as well. Please see video.

    How do you do flood testing if the drain is already added ?

    • @vinnythehandyman
      @vinnythehandyman  Год назад

      All you do is unscrew the face plate on the drain and then you drop in your test balloon and then your set.

      Ic. I thought redgard said to paint it to the ABS drain than put the metal drain in?

    • @vinnythehandyman
      @vinnythehandyman  Год назад

      @@Michael-jm5ix no need to apply on abs. It’s already water tight from the glue. Just use on top of mortar and drywall.

    Can you redguard over regular drywall?

    • @vinnythehandyman
      @vinnythehandyman  10 месяцев назад

      Yes!

    • @hemidesign
      @hemidesign 3 месяца назад

      Yes.. 100%
      Make sure you're using moisture proof drywall and apply 2 to 3 coats of Hydroban (a much better alternative from Redgard)..
      You will have a shower for a lifetime

    That's wrong, and it will create a Mold Sandwich because you can't guarantee any of the water. Getting below the red guard period you also put red guard on the edge of the drain, which means you're gonna be holding water. just not a good situation

    • @vinnythehandyman
      @vinnythehandyman  10 месяцев назад

      Yes, I totally see where you’re coming from. Tile wall tiles overlap the floor tiles. Also there’s a slope to drain. Some contractors don’t even waterproof at all. If anything gets under redguard the water drains to weep holes 🕳️and get rid of any moister right? I’ve heard both sides of the argument, some tile guys like it and some don’t.
      Now I just use schutler shower systems and don’t use red guard anymore for total protection. Do you use schutler? Thanks for watching.

      @vinnythehandyman The problem is the other side of the argument is wrong. I do a traditional in and out system. Built properly with no liquid waterproofing on the post slope ,Just a pre slope and a vinyl liner concrete board and liquid. Waterproofing over that ... sealed systems are not proven long enough. Yet they've only been around for like, 20 years .the whole reason sealed system were invented is because people keep messing up a traditional in and out system . I'll stick with what works and has 50 years or more of proven technology . I'm not gonna change because I can't mud a Pan, you learn to mud a Pan.... There's no arguing that the liquid waterproofing on the post slope is incorrect d when you have a vinyl liner on the bottom, and on the top is liquid waterproofing . that holds in moisture . plus you have moisture on the top that's being held in just like a lot of these linear drains recently with the sealed system . they need to be hooked up to a 3 piece traditional drain.
