Rock management who deserved the proverbial axe

  • Similar to January’s video although these often-shady characters were actually fired (many gangsters in pop music simply didn’t their contracts renewed), normally with good reason. Murry Wilson aided the Beach Boys pre-stardom; was dismissed in 1964 and barely did much afterwards before dying nine years later. Dennis + especially Brian were devastated by the loss yet his influence was only ever business-related. Allen Klein was notorious for majorly ripping off artists, helping quicken Beatles’ untimely demise while literally tricking Jagger & company into giving up music recorded before Sticky Fingers-what a classy pro! Clifford Davis barely known apart from causing headaches when embryonic Fleetwood Mac dismissed a guitarist circa. ’73. Their insane drummer proved quite an obviously unsuitable replacement. Dishonourable mention: David Krebs/Steve Leber greatly helped Aerosmith plus other semi-legends before falling out with virtually them all. Maybe it’s better to keep it honest, getting results even if your act doesn’t notice.
