I discovered Habib Koité when I bought Ma Ya 20 years ago. Going through the next several bad years... he often got me through the day, hour minute. I wish I could read (or better yet, understand) the lyrics. I love to sing along in different languages, even if I don’t know the meaning. (I make sure no one hears me - it’s not pretty, but it is fun). “Don’t Smoke!” Instant joy with singing along and dancing. I still have that CD! Played it last week! (Yes, I'm old. I have an old boom box. There you go).
But you do know great things happened in Africa, the mother of science, medicine and democratic communities....but you have to know Africa PRE Colonialsm to know these things
Some of the most superficial and clichè comments I have ever read. Africa is not only war, corruption and disease. What the media shows us is definitely NOT all there is. Also Africa is a continent and it its made of 54 countries (cultures and music styles also all different), not one. It sounds so stupid to refer to it as one. And it is not "Africa" producing this music, it is a person (from Senegal). I suggest you take a trip there.
I agree . Propaganda is a terrible thing, which started long before modern media in America the sad part is most Americans believe the lies. All we see in America is the worst they can find the only thing they're interested in rating! not telling the truth. Habib is from Mali by the way.
May I suggest to everyone the Tuareg people, culture and music from different parts of the Sahara desert, which happens to take up a very good percentage of the continent of Africa lol...these Berber Tuareg nomads are everywhere from Mali, Niger and beyond...they carry their culture, music and wisdom with them on camelback,eg...tinariwen,tamikrest, just to name 2 big name bands
Habib Koite is, with Oliver Mtukudzi and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the best I've heard from Africa so far. We must be grateful for this kind of music exists, and enjoy it as much as we can. You can get his music in the Ares.
Discovered Habib Koite in my second year of secondary school. Habib was an established star by then. I bought Putumayo Presents Africa at a local bookstore. The compilation was excellent but I remember being transfixed by this tune for weeks. Even my parents who were not fans of African music and still aren't loved it
You are one of my favorite bands since June 30, 2000 I stumbled across your CD, bought it and it was so beautiful, memorizing, authentic, peaceful, danceable and powerful 💖🙏🎵🎼 thanks & love 🕊️

That's African music for you, there's nothing like it in the world. It is easy to grasp how the few reaped from this land during slavery, have gone to influence music in the new world.
Lo mejor en PUTUMAYO, permite disfrutar y conocer la belleza del lenguaje musical autóctono, de lo mas representativo de los pueblos de nuestro hermoso e irrepetible planeta La Tierra.
I saw Habib April 10, 2009 at the Strand Theatre in Rockland ME. IT as the best show I've seen in Maine in 15 years. In fact, this was one of the best shows and performances I've seen in 40+ years. Outstanding in every way! It was more than a concert...it was an event.
I don't know what it i swith this guy's music but this song gets to me all the time, I always get a tear falling down my face as I hear it. Music like this should never get lost.
There was a girl that i love. We were travelers together near home. One day we heard Wassiye and it became a favorite. I remember her now how we sat then by the sea. Each ray of the sun in each drop in each wave neverending.
Saw Habib on April 2, 2009 at Humboldt State. Awesome!!! He didn't play Wasiye... but they ripped anyway. The ending was amazing... He just started improvising and singing for the happy and healthy life for the baby in this pregnant hippie ladies belly who had rushed the stage and started dancing with them.
C'est chouette d'avoir une vidéo de concert avec un aussi bon son et une bonne image. Merco! Et puis ben Habib... formidable! Big up pour Madou et le balafoniste également! ;-)
so good,so great. heard DO DO WIN on winindows vista operating system, and loved them from there really.love to see tem in brisbane. australia, oceania.
Ketegui was an anazing musician. Proof of this is how easily he transitioned from the cuban influenced independence era music of the 60s and 70s and playing a sax to playing the balafon in contemporary Malian nusic.
Most beautiful thing that this music ... When will come to Argentina? I'm from Buenos Aires and I love these aspects of music, the music here is River Plate Black and African roots. Habib Koite pleasure.
Mali is one of the epicenters on the African continent for Superstars und grand masters.I am much looking forward to hear him live in Munich, Germany in January 2019 💞😊💞😊💞😊

Best Marimba Solo EVER. Most soul in a live performance from all... Much love!
Absolutely! That man is Kélétigui Diabaté, widely recognised as the "undisputed master" of the balafon which seems to be the instrument he's playing.
@@MrZethios thank you for providing his name! I'll be looking him up ❤🎶
Amazing🎉
When you read of all the hardship and terrible things that happen in Mother Africa, your heart is so sad, but then Africa produces this - outstanding
Some of the best art, music, and expression comes from war torn lands.
