      Hello dear Maria, everything is great. I have recently got a shipment of Orchids from Calmela Orchids. It was 6 mines all different kinds ( all for $54) in somewhat good shape. So I am really busy with that little ones ( really excited about it as well) I'm also going through rearranging in my garden . That is why your tips were so valuable to me , Thanks a lot. My orchid seeds are still growing inside the orchid , but I got everything I need for seeds gemination , hoping it'll be successful ( if not , then it doesn't matter I still had fun experimenting ) I think these are all my news. What's new with you:))))

      +Maria279 Hey there pretty lady!!! I am so sorry I missed your wonderful comment and I'm glad you got some ideas off of it...hoping it helped to simply and add more space. I wanted to know how are your little seedlings doing and how did the seed pod project work out...hoping they turned out well....as of right we are in the Winter month and the biggest project I am working on is trying to create a bigger and better grow space for my orchids...also make it a while lot more orchid friendly....with hopes that next year will be even better!!! I am hoping also mother nature is pleasant and continues to ward off freezing temps...my orchids still remain outdoors and are doing well...so I am keeping my fingers crossed!!! Hoping all is well with you and your orchid adventures have been awesome!!! :)

      @Maria279 9 лет назад

      PictureMaria1 Hello dear Maria, I just had done my experiment and it was not successful, my seeds got contaminated and I had to toss it . But part of my failure was that I lost interest , because I realized I don't know what to do with so many plants if they all geminate. I did my best anyways , but didn't get good result. And it's getting cold here so that might be part of a problem.

I didn't want to spend excessive amounts of money on orchid pots or containers...so l ordered from Amazon plastic freezer see through 16-32 ounce food storage containers. Hi Maria,I regularly follow u ur my inspiration to start.I m new to orchids I have bought some phalaenopsis when I brought them they were in sphagnum moss the roots were little soggy.i checked on RUclips and repotted them in coconut husk and covered with few charcoal pieces.i watered once in a week by keeping them under running water,but after few days few leaves were turning yellow and falling I had a doubt and removed the plant and saw few roots were soggy.i read somewhere it is safe to grow only with charcoal so I repotted in charcoal and covered the top with thin layer of moss.Here I don't get pine bark chips.pls suggest what medium is good already I lost few plants

      +cindythemoonlover1 I actually have not found a vanilla plant in my local area...I would grow a vanilla plant outdoors using some form of trellis...or perhaps allowing it to climb on a tree...if you have to grow it indoors I would go for a huge round cylinder shaped trellis...like the one in this video.

    Hello Maria hope you're ready for the upcoming storm, better to be safe than sorry. I Live southwest of Orlando about 50 miles south of Tampa. I've been watching your videos on RUclips and I am impressed by how happy your sound when you talking about orchids. Heard you say you live in the Orlando area. I was wondering how the Central Florida Winters affect Orchids living outdoors I.having gone through A cold spell yet. Q Does the Central Florida winters of affect them.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  9 лет назад

      +Lenny Garcia ...THANK GOODNESS hurricane Erika was very mild...so mild in fact that it rained hard on Friday...but then only drizzled on Sunday...and that was about it...wheeeeeewwwww! I LOVE MY ORCHIDS!!! They have been such a benefit to me...not only in my appreciation for beauty but as a form of therapy...where I can let my guards down and simply relax and enjoy...they do make me happy and provide me a peace that is almost miraculous...so indeed I do appreciate them to the fullest! ...Central FL Winters are very mild compared to most...we can receive quite a cold spell but usually it only gets really cold about 2-3 weeks at the most...and we normally can experience a couple of days of freezing temperatures...This is my 2nd collection my first came to a tragic end due to the hurricanes of past...Majority of orchids that I have now haven't been with me longer than 3-5 months..so this year is going to be a trial and error for me. I will say that I have kept my one vanda, epidendrums, and encyclias outdoors during the winter and they survived without a problem. I am keeping a majority of my orchids outdoors for the winter...so we will see how it goes... (biting my nails).

    Hi Maria, Great tips there, Love the use of the hanging them on the trellises , makes it very compact and yet roomy space, I might have to invest in one,LOL, Another use for the empty cola bottles is to cut them almost in half filled with your favourite plant mix and add your seedlings or plantlets and you have instant terrariums, and there free yay! How are the twins doing ? TFS Rosemary

    Maria, I have been considering hanging my dendrobium collection on a tree in my back yard (I have them in a small store bought greenhouse) but I worry about all this rain we get here in Florida every afternoon for the most part.... I just don't know if so much rain is bad for the plant because they would be drenched in water every day.... wouldn't all this water damage the plant?

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  9 лет назад

      +ruth sanchez ...yes...too much rain will effect your orchids...I have had some that couldn't take it and developed severe rotting... :( It is one of the very unfortunate things about growing your orchids outdoors in Florida...but I have seen people actually mount the dendrobiums onto the tree directly...and water as often as possible...and they are absolutely beautiful...so maybe you can do something like that. I keep my dendrobiums outdoors but I have begun to transition them in bark medium where they have a better chance of drying out in enough time before rotting sets in. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do.

  • @sherylellis399

    Brilliant! Thank you very much. Now I can make better use of my plant stands and also re-use some flower pots for other plants after I repot my orchids. With regards to using peroxide, do I rinse it off the plants afterwards? I am aware that I don't have to rinse the gold/yellow Listerine off, but I'm not sure about the peroxide. Also, are they used for different purposes or they both serve the same purpose?

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  9 лет назад

      It is okay to also leave the peroxide on the plants...it breaks down to water so no harm done at all...and yes they work in the same way with disinfecting and also killing off some bugs as well...I use listerine because it does both and has proven to be stronger in regards to killing off all sorts of bugs yet it is non toxic. I usually spray my orchids down with it every once or twice a week...and even with my grow space outdoors I've never had any major issues since I started using it. I LOVE IT and don't know what I'd do without it! :)
