Yup. Make sure to have a good length of the hanger (at least a foot) taped and you'll be plenty secure. Hasn't slipped on me in the few years I've used the same pole
What size hook do you recommend? Going out today to buy the materials to build my poles as you have explained. Thanks for making the video. Much appreciated
@@FishAnotherDay Thank You Sir. So I went to Lowe's to get the materials and found these: www.lowes.com/pd/Gardener-s-Blue-Ribbon-8-FT-Steel-Garden-Stake/1002275406 I will give these a shot as they are already a good length. I did buy the Stainless hangers and your right. They are tough. I'll let you know how we do after the 4th of July weekend. We'll be in Bodega bay for the 4th for 4 Nights.
@@stephenajones4438 hey how'd the poke poles work out for you? I just went again yesterday with a friend and remembered this comment. Hoping you had a good time
@@FishAnotherDay We had a Great Time. Didn't catch as many fish/eels as we would like but for the first time it was exciting. My grown kids as well as my grandson cannot wait till we go back to Doran on Labor Day Weekend and do it again. Thanks for all your help in making the poles. Good luck to you in the future
Nice guide. Schedule 80 pipe, if you can get it, is a better choice because it's not as flimsy as schedule 40 but the inner diameter is smaller but you can upgrade to 3/4". Personally, I prefer a modded wonderpole with a metal rod inside. The cost is about $15 but you get a more professional looking poke pole that can act as a hiking stick.
Good suggestion on the sch 80! I didn't want to go heavier since it's a lot of leverage on the arms in the extended form. The sch 40 has been sufficient as a walking stick with the stake inside, but a sch 80 would be nice and stiff
A very helpful video, as this helped me build my own poke pole. Thanks again for making this video.
Thanks for the detailed tutorial 😮💨
Guess you wanna make one after hooking a few monkey faces yesterday😅
I made 4 poke poles following your video and am excited to try poke poling for the first time tomorrow. Thank you! Hope your recovery is going well.
Awesome! Just be careful when you screw and unscrew the hardware. So easy to drop them out on the rocks👍
One more thing, don't forget the little tape at the tip. It keeps the rig from swaying backwards and away from the fish. Makes a HUGE difference
Is the electrical tape the only thing holding the coat hanger on the stake?
Yup. Make sure to have a good length of the hanger (at least a foot) taped and you'll be plenty secure. Hasn't slipped on me in the few years I've used the same pole
Im in California. Was wondering if by law do you need to have line between the swivel and the hook?

I use size 4 usually like in this video. Size 2 is fine too if you anticipate bigger fish! There's rock fish occasionally out there

Another great vid my dude. We need to hook up another prickleback broooo!!!
Heck yeah! You watched me catch my PB monkeyface monster! That was an insane day. Let's get out there soon!
So you connect you hook directly to the Snap Swivel? No line between the Snap Swivel & hook?
Nope, no line at all. Clothes hanger, snap swivel, hook. I prefer this as I feel it's easier to control where I place the bait
@@FishAnotherDay Thank you again.
