- Hello Everyone, and welcome to this week's Quick Tip Tuesday!
This week I wanted to do a tutorial on how to get deckled edges on your watercolor paper! This is a great tip to make your inexpensive paper look more high end, or to complete a deckled edge look on paper that you have to trim down.

Thank you. Very easy to follow. If you do something like this again, a contrasting background would really help.
Your tip about pulling outwards made all the difference to the look! Thank you
I was doing this "my own way" this morning, but my way was more difficult so I searched for tips from someone else and found you. The key to your tip, for me, is the quilt ruler. I'd have never thought of that, so thanks so much!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for the tip. Have a large sheet that I need to cut and wanted to the same effect. I don't have a bone folder but have everything else, so will improvise.
Thank you - great explanation. It worked perfectly!
Been wanting to deckle the edges of greeting cards I make. Thanks for the tip!
Looks great. I’m remembering this from art class. Thank you so much.
Thank you!! We are making our own invitations for our vow renewal and this helped me a ton!!
You can use a credit card to do it as well. Looks great. Thanks for the tip 😀
Great demonstration thanks.
I cannot see the edges because the paper is the same color as the background.
Thank you
It was very helpful, thank you!
Thank you for sharing this simple and effective technique!!
I’m so happy you found it helpful!!
This is so ingenious Amanda! I just found your channel today and am currently binge watching your videos ❤️
Thank you so much Marc!!
Thanks hun...I can't find a deckle edge ripper where I am, so this was really useful 😊
You explained everything really well!! Thanks for the tip :)
Thank you! I'm happy you found it helpful!! :)
Hi Amanda, is it possible to deckle edges of cardstock paper?
I wouldn’t recommend using water to get a deckled edge on card stock, you will get a lot of warping. I would try using a ruler and tearing upward. If you have starting using a side leave the front side facing downward on the table for the best look. The look of the deckled edge can vary depending on the weight and makeup of the paper, and will probably not be as pronounced as you would see on a watercolor paper.
Thank you so mch!! Really helpful 😇
thank you so much, for this tip
You’re welcome! I’m happy you found it helpful!
Thank you!
Thank you! Just what I was looking for!
I’m happy it helped!! 😊
I really liked the tip. Thanks.
You’re welcome! Happy it helped!!
Wonderful, thank you. I like to make my own watercolor sketch books but it can be difficult to get a good tear
Thank you! I’m so happy you found it helpful!
I could not see it because of white on white.
Thank you fpr this tip. Wish u had used a darker surface so we could have seen the white paper better.
I know, I’m sorry! I will most likely re-film it soon. I’m glad you found it helpful anyway!
Thank you so much for this tutorial Amanda! I clicked on the link to buy the paper on amazon but it looks like its out-of-stock :( Do you happen to have another recommendation to use? Or what kind of paper is needed? Thanks so much!
You're welcome! I'm happy you found it helpful! It does seem the Bee Paper Company at the moment has no plans on restocking their paper in the 50 count packs, I'm unsure why. They do have pads available, but they aren't 100% cotton. I found a similar product by Strathmore here: amzn.to/3dIri90 that is 100% cotton, and the same size as the Bee paper.
This technique can be used on any kind of paper. I use this method of wetting the paper with less expensive cotton papers, or anything that only has a percentage on cotton. Basically anything that has a fuzzy look when ripped dry. For higher quality papers, there is no need to wet the paper, as they will have a beautiful edge regardless.
Sorry to report I don't find this works. If you're just making pure straight lines with the ruler, folding each edge over and tearing it off, then repeating that several times on all four edges where does the rough deckled edge come from? And isn't this making the paper smaller and smaller? I think I need someone to explain what is missing here in the method. When I tried it - the end result was paper too small and edges normal torn careful straight edges.
You sound a bit like K. Werner. Thanks for this. x
his would be perfect, if only I could see what you're doing. The light is wayyy too blown out on my screen. No matter how I adjust, I can't see what you're doing. Bummer.
Can’t see anything because of the white background. Actually hurts my eyes
