    Love Hag, most of the band the drummer, lap steel and guitar player setting down were with him since the early days. Haggard was in Prison when Johnny Cash played there. When he got out in his early 20's he started making music noise. Interesting story. There's also a song Sing Me Back Home about a man he became friends with in there who escaped and shot a guard. He received the death penalty. He asked that Haggard sing his last request. True story and great song. Finally got to see Haggard probably 6 months or so before he passed. It was awesome.

    He has a song called "Okie from Muskogee."
    His parents were from Oklahoma, and I think moved to California after the Dust Bowl and the Depression, I believe. I live fairly close to Muskogee.
    In 2008, I had an English teacher named Mrs. Haggard.. I convinced my best friend to jokingly ask her if her dad's name was Merle. Surprisingly she said no, but her husband was supposed to be related to him.

    The difference is with Merle without any equivocation is ihe lived it he wrote. He didn’t need an autobiography all you have to do is listen to his songs from 1966 to 1990.

    I wish I could hear more people say "I like country music" without thinking it was necessary to say, "but I only like SOME of it". I don't think I have ever heard anyone say I like classical music, but I only like SOME of it or I like rap music...but only SOME of it. Yet I would wager that anyone who likes classical music or rap music does not like every single solitary song in that genre of music. It seems we have been brainwashed into thinking that we should NOT like country music so therefore if we DO like it, we have to add the disclaimer...but not all of it.
    I just listened to another reactor who said, "I don't like country music but I like Dolly Parton". I wish he hadn't thought he had to make sure that everyone knew he wasn't really a country fan even though he had just admitted he was a fan of probably the biggest star in country music.

    Look guys, im pretty God damn country! But even I was thinkin just after the first 2 lines, "OH No!!". Now I like Merle Hag N all but this is one of them songs. It's not one for those that are on the fence. I could probably find a place in my life were I could like this song. But to me, it's just not a hit. Especially for a reaction channel. I really like you guys so far with the few videos of ur guyss I've seen. But im telling ya, your channel will fade quickly with songs like this one. I know there are people that will like it. I will even like it in the right setting. But I bet your numbers will be down with this one? Watch ur views. The Hag has alot of great ones. If I may suggest a couple names to explore there stuff. These couple of guys have really came in & made a mark that is different than most. Stirgil Simpson & Tyler Childers. Maybey you already know them? If you work with music I guess how could you not?? But you will like them & your viewers will like them.

      Um...you're not much of a fan of country music, obviously. Merle Haggard was unarguably the greatest country artist that ever lived. Every country artist, past and present will tell you that. This one was not my favorite either but my suggestion would have been they listen to all of Merles songs. They are all masterpieces.

    • @jesseduke694
      @jesseduke694 Год назад

      @janetcrowe7572 not one single singer has only hit songs. There are better songs to listen too. As far my taste of country music? And as far as Merle being the greatest? That's all in eye of the beholder. I do think Merle was great! But the greatest?? Defenatly room for aurgument there! I mean Hank Jr, Waylon, John Cash, and even some modern guys like Stirgil Simpson all can give aurgument to who the greatest is. As far as being true to country music, a person that would make a claim such as you have & then say if I disagree with you I don't have taste & that you tell someone to listen to all of your favorite singers songs. Someone who is truelly a fan & understands these guys would never say that & expect to still be taken seriously! U sound more like a Jason Aldean fan boy than a country music fan!

      @@jesseduke694 while you can find many country artists claiming Merel is the greatest country artist of all time listen to this one. He says it well. "Who does Vince Gill think is the greatest country music artist of all time." We aren't talking about bluegrass. The subject is country. Merle had 38 #1 hits. He was amazing on guitar and fiddle. He was a genius at poetry and oozed greatness when he sang. He is #1 in my opinion and most all of those in country music. if someone wants a good taste of country music, they should research all of Merles songs. He was a genius. Just like you, I can voice my opinion as well. "MERLES THE GREATEST. And its tasteless to use God's name in vain when communicating publicly. Have a nice day

      @janetcrowe7572 People that don't listen to country & want to learn of it & would like to hear some good examples of country that will appeal to a non country listening ear is not going to be able to appreciate all of Merles songs. They want to experience country music, not specifically & exclusively Merle Hagard. I do believe & would recommend that person listen to some of Merles songs, but to expect someone to listen to his entire carolog is nonsense & telling me I don't have taste for not suggesting the same is rediculas. I could tell you that you either like Waylon or your wrong! And though a fun phrase to say to people, not somthing you truly say to someone & be serious about. There is alot of soul touching country music out there to experience. Someone wanting to explore that may not know , in my opinion should be recommended to check out a few of the hits from many of the legends. Not just one inparticular. Hell, even Merle himself would tell u that.

      @@jesseduke694 I didn't say you don't have taste, nor did I say they shouldn't listen to other artist. I like Waylon too. I like the older artists. Very few country artist today are actually singing country. Their either doing pop or bluegrass. The makers of this reaction are looking into Merle. So, why are we even talking about other artist?

    Keep listening there's only two kinds of music. good and bad both aupplies in every style. I think it would be cool if you checked out some Jerry Reed his writing and singing and most definitely guitar playing was on the highest level he did not get a lot of credit most young people have no clue. They just remember him from the movies like Smokey and the bandit. I really enjoyed your video God bless.

      By the way I'm a little partial I must admit I was his bass player for many years. Jerry and his wife Priscilla were incredible people. I recommend Jerry Reed guitar man he wrote it Elvis Presley cut it there's a great story behind the whole thing. Elvis went on to cut other of Jerry's songs. But my favorite version of guitar man was Jerry Reed live at the exit in Nashville Tennessee.
