I try to keep everyone guessing! No real rhyme or reason to when my videos post. Basically when I have time...and something to teach. Thanks for watching.
@@maximumguitarworks yes , I'm very sure !! I wish I lived in the Denver area so I could take your class in person , but watching you teach in your videos is very helpful as well & a close second to being there !! LOL besides if I need to re-hear something all I have to do is re-watch ... 😁 Thanks for all you do !!
Next fall I'm teaching an advanced guitar construction class at the school. Maybe I should come up with a Les Paul set by then. The advance class teaches set necks, carved tops, guitar design, advanced wiring, angled headstocks, and other things...could be a good traditional demo build for the students.
I would say that in any woodworking...a table saw is the most used and most versatile tool in the shop. I like having a good chop saw too...so that would be my second choice. It’s like they say...”so many tools...so little money.” Maybe that is just what I say.
Yea always thought stewmacs fret saw at .023 was some what tight for ebony and maple . But hard to find a .025 saw with a 5/8" arbor ,where do you buy from?
I know that certain jewelers blades are available in different sizes and arbor sizes...but I haven't looked at those is a long time. I ordered mine through Sintoms out of Belarus with a fret wire order. Not sure if anyone in the US stocks them...however, it came with a 25mm hole. I had Jim Byrnes make a spacer for my Byrnes Saw that fit the blade perfectly...with the appropriate arbor hole for his saw (1/2" IIRC). It works perfectly. In my opinion, the Sintoms blade is much better for slot cutting than any other blade I have used.
I had not used them with a hand saw jig. I’m pretty sure they will...I just haven’t done it. The important thing is the indexing....and I don’t think that is unique...but I have never used that jig.
Did I not reply to this comment? I remember responding...but it is not showing up in my RUclips comments panel. Anyway...no...there is nothing wrong...just personal preference. It is fairly easy to adjust...I should make another fretboard template to satisfy that request.
Nothing at all wrong with that. It would be easy to do...would just need a different fretboard template...and a slightly different process when machining the neck (similar to how I do the Strat necks). However, 21 is traditional...and some people like that. I was against 21 fret guitars for the longest time...thought that was useless when you can have 22. But the 21 fret neck has really grown on me. I now really like them on a Tele style guitar. In the end...anything is possible...and it boils down to more personal preference than it being right or wrong.
Ive known for years about how paduk ages.you are the first to actually come out and remind everyone that the cool orange is temporary. 👍🏻👍🏻
First? Really? Do I get an award for that? ;-) BTW...I like the brown it turns...looks rich.
This is incredible detail, and a fantastic contribution to the guitar building community! Can't believe that I didn't have to pay for access to this!
I’m SO excited to use my templates. Thanks for all your hard work and for making these videos!
Yes! A new video! Was looking forward to it! Thanks!

I love those templates !! You really outdid yourself in the desining of them !! I'm sure they will be in high demand !! Great video as well !!
Thank you Mike...I hope they are not in too high demand at first...time is my biggest limitation!

Awesome video. That neck is going to look great when complete!
With or without the binding? I'm trying to figure out what I will do with the bodies of these two necks.
@@maximumguitarworks with!
i think it will look awesome too
Absolutely brilliant Steve! I will be in contact very soon. Merry Christmas!!
Thank you Judi...look forward to hearing from you. Merry Christmas to you too.
Just got my templates Steve, beautiful. Amazingly so!
Great. Email if you have any questions. I hope to make the next one or two template videos this week.
interested in the saw. I am using a big table saw, and would prefer to ditch it. it is only used for fret slotting.
Thank you Steve. I am amazed and inspired by the precision of your work and insightful details you are sharing. Excellent!
Thank you Randy. I’ll try to keep it up...my videos are exhausting...at least for me...maybe for people watching too!
thanks Steve! what would you prefer for guitar building: table saw, miter saw or a radial arm saw?

I don't understand how everything works, but I TRUST YOU!
Lol
Thank you...it is good to be trusted. ;-)
So these fretslotting templates only work if you use the table saw? I need ones that work with the Stew Mac hand saw jig.
I had not used them with a hand saw jig. I’m pretty sure they will...I just haven’t done it. The important thing is the indexing....and I don’t think that is unique...but I have never used that jig.
Do you sell the acrylic templates?
Yes.

I know the tradition number of frets for a Telecaster is 21 but is wrong with making it with 22?
