    FUDGE! I accidentally deleted a very helpful comment recommending 328i's and straying away from turbocharged beamers. Also mentioned NA I6 platforms equipped with DISA are still quick if you're looking for more pep in your step, without the many maintenance hoops forced induction platforms give you. Looking at you N54, (BMW chime + half engine light). I apologize original commenter, I intended to heart and pin your comment for your great insight but fat fingered and clicked delete instead 💀.

    I just saved THOUSANDS by installing a used CIC unit in mine, protools made the swap painless as far as coding and forums handled the rest. Being open to learning is a must with these cars as it's a constant process to keep up with the things that fail. Next on my list is figuring out why AC is blowing hot. 👨‍🏫

      @Fungustus1  Год назад +1

      Nice!! Good to know upgrading the dash is painless, am planning on implementing carplay to my current CIC. Well said about being open to learning btw.. I wish you good luck and hope your AC repair goes smoothly!

    I would say at this point, if you want to buy a BMW just budget for all the maintenance yourself. Especially if the previous owner worked on it themselves, it's a good idea to just redo all the basic preventative maintenance. Gaskets, water pump, etc.

  • @schm3ez

    Great video! Appreciate the insight. These cars are great, you just need to be aware and do your forum research with maintenance items. I tip my hat to you for doing the work yourself. I'd love to learn, but I simply don't have the time or the facilities, so I intend on paying for the convenience.
    Another note I'd add: Spend the $ on a Pre-Purchase Inspection! This can save your wallet and your peace of mind knowing that you are stepping into a car that is not only well maintained, but matches the carfax. It can also save you on dealer fees to confirm or hold them accountable for work that they claim to have done. In doing so, you can also plan/prepare for maintenance items so it doesn't break the bank when it happens. If there's too much damage, or you can't get a fair deal, you step away from the car knowing you only spent $250 at your local BMW dealer. Win/Win in my book.

    was most of this preventative maintenance? cant imagine all of these things going wrong in two years unless you purchases a really neglected example. i am one year into ownership, 79000 miles, have done plugs and coils only (besides oil changes and a coolant flush). car is running solid healthy idle makes boost fine. 6spd manual msport purchased for 7k.

      im two years in on a 2009 114,000 miles now. besides new brake rotors/pads and oil changes every 5,000 miles. ive done new plugs n coils, one fuel injector. new valve cover, oil filter housing gasket /intake mainifold, both rear axle seals + diff fluid, charge pipe, some carbon cleaning of valves, new purge valve and cabin air filter and ofcourse intake filters. Car has been great and makes a great daily. i drive 400 miles a week.
