Auditor General's general report on local government audit outcomes paints a bleak picture

The Auditor General's consolidated general report on local government audit outcomes paints a bleak picture of financial mismanagement and the provision of services at municipal level.
AG Tsakani Maluleke released the 2020-2021 consolidated general report earlier today.
It shows the fourth administration left municipalities in a worse financial position than when they took office.
Maluleke says the lack of improvement in municipal outcomes is an indictment on the entire local government accountability ecosystem. Maluleke also says municipalities with disclaimers reflect badly on their leadership.
