Back then when i played„the way of the exploding fist“ i thought that this game could not get better. But then came the sequel „fist II“ and it blew my mind! It had the same great fighting mechanics but with kind of an „open world“ to explore. Awesome! 😎 Loved it. So good memorys
Cave music definitely has some vibes from Deep Purples Child in Time, (Or "It's a Beautiful Day" by Bombay Calling if you like). It's is my favorite tune from the game aswell.
@@Myrryspeikko yeah I'd say it's more than a vibe. Sounds like it is completely based upon the idea. When I first heard "Child in time" after knowing Fist II for years I was disappointed the cave music wasn't original. It's still good though.
Great arcade/adventure, with unbelievably good music and a zen-like feeling. Pity for the horrible bugs (those neverending enemies haunted my teenager dreams!!)
I missed this back in the day, thanks for sharing. Like a lot of C64 games, it's the moving music that makes it. Other system's squeaky, bleepy soundchips lacked the same class of SID.
I'd forgotten about this game but I was so addicted to it in 1986. This happens every now and then I see a longplay video and I remember a game I forgot.
This is not open world for me. Games like Rambo on the C64, or druid/druid 2, or other top view games were you can go to all directions is much more what i call "open world". Or even better: Ultima 1-5, which were closest we got from "open World".
Never came close to finishing this as a kid in the 80s but seeing the ending for the first time now im glad i didnt. I would have been so disappointed!
this game was difficult. there was no yt back in the day for walktroughs like this. imagine how good these programmers were. this game fits in 64kb ram only. i had this game on cassette. it took ages to load.
I can see the scrolls are automatically used after you collect them and then find the corresponding temple when they blink. Still, it has to be so difficult to not get lost!
Hi. Someone wrote here that the music for the game is bad. Keep in mind that the C64 was created in the 80s. And at that time it had eight channel sound, 4 channels for the left and 4 channels for the right. It was innovative for the time and there was probably nothing better until the Amiga 500 came along.
Distinct memory of Fist II from 80’s.. Probably didn’t get too far, ’cause I remember only the name.. C64 gaming included lot of fisting: IK IK+ Way of the Fist.. All great games.
You're a lot better at this game than I was when I was a kid. In fairness though, your avatar seems to know martial arts. I saw very few indications that mine did.
Exactly the same for me as a kid. Sat for like 4 hours on a Sunday with a Zzap map, struggling to get there. Lacked the scrolls to see in the dark and protect me from the volcano's caldera, but still made it to the end to see a vaguely flaming volcano in the distance. Would it have killed them just to put a text page up saying, "Oh hey, you killed the evil warlord, rid the land of evil and became a Legend in the Way of the Exploding Fist"? Such a shame.
I kind of don't like that you have to occasionally kick someone's ass, because it's otherwise so chilled with that meditative music and just going on a nice long walk.
I remember finding it amusing that they used the same music in this game as in the text adventure of "The Hobbit". See here: ruclips.net/video/dpKwS3PcPsg/видео.html
Could you, please explain what the function of 5th pergament is (Increase Combat Strength)? I've completed the game many times, but I saw no effect on gameplay. You can complete the game even without collecting the No.5 pergament. Thank you.
Remember this game so well, especially for the music. Gameplay wasn't amazing, as I remember you had only one life or something? I think I never got beyond fighting that first guy underground. A pity also that you couldn't run. Music was amazing though.
From a gameplay perspective all the background screens make no sense; there are no items to collect, puzzles to solve, just endless backgrounds between opponents; imho it's a wast of resources that doesnt add anything substantial to the game
The "puzzle" is to get the right scrolls to enter and pass certain areas. It's not that great by any modern means, but in 1985 and as a one filer on the C64, this was amazing. You have to see these things in the context of their time.
Great game but little boring, I think. If they added a plenty of less dangerous opponents (like dogs, birds ... that can be eliminated in one kick) just that there is no so much empty space to walk through.
awesome game, incredible atmosphere. I found it spooky and somewhat scary when I was a kid. A bit more variety in backgrounds and enemies would have been great
I LOVED this game on the C128D when i was just a little kid, played it MANY hours, could never get all the way to the end, thanks for uploading this, pity you did not put the theme music in this video, is also great, as all the rest of the music in the game.
That music has stuck in my head for over thirty years.
Me too, man. ;-)
Brennan did a great job to bring the atmosphere from that game in everyones child´s room.
Same
@Theodore Victor Me 2
Same! 😉
Soundtrack absolutely slaps 🔊
that's what hooked me to this game in the first place.

This game is a beast. Everything about it is class. Games like this made the C64 the machine to have amongst school mates
The "Cave music" has always been my favorite. Such a soothing atmosphere...
truth.
The "cave music" makes me remember to Jeff Mill's music. Especially the track The Revenge Of Being In Lust from the album And Then There Was Light.

@@Myrryspeikko interestingly there's a cover version of Fist II "cave music" in the style of "Child in time" but I've forgotten who made it.
I used to watch my older bro play this as a kid and sneak a go as soon as he went out
I remember being amazed about the size of this game.. def one of the c64 titles with the longest play-through time.
Int Karate Storymode :D
yep. how many screens they had to put in the small memory.
Great arcade/adventure, with unbelievably good music and a zen-like feeling. Pity for the horrible bugs (those neverending enemies haunted my teenager dreams!!)

the music in the cave section is so incredibly good. Easily In my top 10 C64 pieces
The best game ever made.
Such an underrated game. I mean, it wasn't amazing but it was a very ambitious early attempt at 'open world' adventuring!
This is not open world for me. Games like Rambo on the C64, or druid/druid 2, or other top view games were you can go to all directions is much more what i call "open world". Or even better: Ultima 1-5, which were closest we got from "open World".
What an absolute classic!!!
This was one of my favorite games on my c64 when i was a child.
Great upload

I was thinking the exact same, what a letdown. Awesome game and music though, don't get me wrong.
I was gonna say the same exact thing :-)
Maybe the original game had a walkthrough explanation as a booklet or something.
that would have been childhood trauma
Absolutely, same here!
Que lindo recuerdo de los 90' yo lo jugaba en la commodore 64 🤗
ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREAT C64 GAMES....
That first tune is basically a Doom track.
this game was difficult. there was no yt back in the day for walktroughs like this. imagine how good these programmers were. this game fits in 64kb ram only. i had this game on cassette. it took ages to load.
atmospheric as hell
first open world beat em up,i played, extreme good :-)
They made these game in assembly. with many many limitations... amazing
This old game is very cool !!! Good times !!!
The C64 was a beast ... we had to wait until the Amiga to see a better machine, I mean one that had equal or better sound and scrolling capabilities.
"Restore" key trick
Definetly made easier to cross gaps or pass enemies.
I can see the scrolls are automatically used after you collect them and then find the corresponding temple when they blink. Still, it has to be so difficult to not get lost!

now kids, imagine playing this more than 20 years ago without minimap or any kind of guide.
Grandissimo gioco
Replaced all the fighting with ... Walking😮
...mitico!!
I liked the game back in the day, but what a shitty, unfinished ending. I thought that I hit a bug when I won it.

Never understood the green baseball cap
Same here 😂
i used to press the restore key to automatically walk without holding the joystick lol
What an end.
Not even some writing:(
Still an awesome game.
FIST 1 IS LEGEND
pity that the many maps they have published are all confusing or written in small size, we need a good image map..✌🏻
Wow never saw this one
I remember finding it amusing that they used the same music in this game as in the text adventure of "The Hobbit". See here: ruclips.net/video/dpKwS3PcPsg/видео.html
nice find!
How can I learn to make such games?
I remember when Zzap64 brought out the full map and I made it to the end... ending was crap.. Never touched it again.
Can anyone explain the ending to me? Why does the game end with a volcano? Something to do with the backstory of the game, perhaps?
Could you, please explain what the function of 5th pergament is (Increase Combat Strength)?

When you pick up scroll and activate it in the shrine, it works as a save point as well. So if you die, you spawn into last activated shrine.
@@Myrryspeikko Ah, now I remember. Anyway, maybe I shouldn't be too critical about gameplay because I recall actually really liking this game.
please tell me how was the fnnn end????
The majority of your enemies have lime green trucker hats?
there was a clearance sale
