My most embarrassing story at work was when I fell asleep (for 3-4 seconds, though) DURING the lesson IN FRONT of my STUDENTS! It was so cold in the classroom, one of my students gave me his big coat, they started to write the dictation, they were writing quite slowly, and I, all warmed up finally under this coat, made such a huge noticeable nod, falling asleep, they all noticed it. Oh my God, how embarrassing!

OMG this is soo good 😂😂!! I remember when I first worked as a waiter in London, and I was doing a bunch of silly mistakes out of misunderstandings. I have gotta said that I didn't speak more than a few words in English and my listening was really rubbish though 😂. So one day, a lovely old woman came into the restaurant and after ordering her drink, she ask for the "loo". Well, I had absolutely no idea about what that was, but I thought it had to be and ingredient for a pizza. So I keep telling her that unfortunately we had run out of "loo" but we had a bunch of other stuff like veggies, cheese or meat. Well, it continued for 5 minutes untill she could keep it together anymore and end up shouting at me and complaining to my manager because I was taking the piss 😂. I wish this was the only one but I've got just soo many of those lol.

Last summer I worked at the local Art Museum. Most of my excursions were in English and rarely I had excursions in German. I was only a beginner in German and basically I only knew my text by heart and couldn't improvise. So one day I had a lovely German group, they followed me to the hall I knew perfectly. I started talking about a great Russian artist Aivazovsky, but when I raised my hand and turned to the wall where his canvas was supposed to be, there was a random picture. I turned to another wall to show the Germans another his work and there was an unfamiliar canvas again. So the group was waiting for Aivazovsky and I was just standing in front of them without any idea what to say. That was horrible! And Aivazovsky's works went to Moscow for his jubilee exactly that day!

Hi Lucy! I don't know if you know but Welsh rarebit was actually 'Welsh rabbit'! You see, the Welsh had such a reputation for being stingy that if they invited you over for a rabbit dinner they would only serve you cheese on toast! So, etymologically speaking you were 100% correct! The poor Welsh...

For example I brought a meal from the kitchen to the customer and somehow I forgot the name of it, so instead of saying Brown trout I said Brown turtle :D or the same story but with a lamb burger, instead of lamb I said lung and they were staring at me like if I didn't get mad or what haha

Hi Lucy! Greetings from the Philippines. I'm also a waiter and this is why sometimes I feel I'm afraid of talking with British foreigners. Everytime I heard them talking, least words come to my mind. My main reason is British slang and accent words are more difficult to understand than American, for me. But I will push to familiarize and to understand myself with British words by watching all your videos. Thank you.

I'm a native English speaker and I don't know why I watch your videos haha I just stumbled upon them and let them play in the background (funnily enough) when I'm studying either French or Dutch, and (please believe me I'm not a creep who just stares at you, I'm gay asf but you're beautiful nonetheless ye) and this video had me fucking dying! I cringed so much at the milk story but the image of two old women just looking at a specially prepared glass of milk that young overly charismatic Lucy made was just too absurd and hilarious, the last one sounded something that Leslie Knope would do I swear haha. Love your videos, I envy English learners that they have you! I wish French and Dutch had a you version!

Oh my goodness, you are the best! What's wonderful about your stories is that none of them are mean-spirited. You were trying your very best and meant well. I was working the front desk at a restaurant and a drunk fella walked by on his way to the restroom and asked me to call him a cab.
So I said "Hey, you're a cab!" I turned around to walk away so I could have a laugh and the restaurant owner was standing there and heard the whole interaction.
He said "Did that customer ask you to call him a cab, then did you reply "Hey, you're a cab"? I meakly said "y e s", then braced to be fired.
The owner was doubled over. ?? I had no idea what was happening. When he finally stood up again, he had tears of laughter streaming down his face and we shared a real bonding moment over my nonsense.
By the way, the drunk guy didn't even notice my comment, and he got his cab.

Love your stories, they are so funny and makes me laugh. Here it goes my story:
I'm a student of medicine and a month ago I was doing some practical class at the hospital in urologist. I was in the consultation with the doctor and after see the first patient I asked something to show him that I was paying attention and I have interest. So my question was:
-why this patient came here instead of going to the nephrologist? I don't understand why is he here bc he has a stone in the kidney.
    His reply was:
-Really?? Are you joking? It would be better if you come back to the first year of medicine or even better to philosophy. After that he told my question to other doctors and all were surprised as well and laugh at me.
I was so embarrassed and I don't understand what I had done wrong. He told me that the stones are never be treated by the nephrologist, and they have some rivalry between them. Since this day until I finished the practices I was known as "the crazy guy who wanted to treat stones in nephrology" 😑😑😑😑😑😑

Elhabib sulaiman yeah, I agree with you but remember that we are humans, and humans make mistakes. There are some careers that have more responsabilities than others and this is something that you have to live with. Mistakes are they way to learn, and you would be very surprise if you discovered that doctors make mistakes every day. Is not a bad thing bc of a mistake, you take on knowledge that you will never forget, but of course, the mistakes must be done when you are learning or they must be very very tiny in order to avoid the patients be mad at you 😱😱

Lucy, you just remind me my experience working in a supermarket, how many times I got things wrong, first because obviously I could not understand properly and second because I misunderstood hundred of times. Best when I offered to a woman a lovely hand soap instead of the dry soup that she was asking for... I never forget these funny and embarrassing moments.

It was so funny. Somehow I can understand your mistakes cause when I was younger I used to do things like that: maybe I was thinking a lot of things: I made my own stories in my head and then I listened inaccurate words.

I got once, it was one of two years already and I am often to forget the words. It was so embarrassing, so, I was be receptionist in the hostel once in the middle of the night my guest just order the blanket BUT but I thought it's a clothes hanger, then, I just lend the hangers to them. They was like 'what' in their face hahaha then, they just walking to the bed and point at the (real)blanket and say "I mean I wanted blanket". I was like "OMG I'm so sorry I will giving you a blanket as soon as possible" lucky me they're not mind my big mistake and none complain for the hostel.

When I started working in a crèche, being a non-native speaker I wasn't familiar with all "technical" vocabulary. We had a daily report we had to present to parents and it included information about their babies bowel movements in: "wet nappy" and "soiled nappy". I didn't get the second one right for quite some time saying it "solid" every time I was talking to the parent. So one day I was talking to a new daddy and I said "...and just one soild nappy today" and he went "...yes, my baby loves a good sh***" 😂😂😂 after that I went and actually investigated the difference between "soiled" and "solid" properly 😁

Hearing Lucy talking about this made me really scared because even a native speaker like her gets the words wrong sometimes :(

I REALLY don't know how to split the words when I reach at the end of a row. My teacher from highschool told me that there is a rule but she never told me about that rule. :( (It's also my foult because I didn't ask her to explain me and now it's to late)
Love your videos, you made a great great job!!

we have welsh rarebit where I worked, but on the ordering system we use, we just have it down as welsh R. I made the same mistake and for about 3 weeks after we added it to the menu, I would hand people their cheese toast and tell them it was their welsh rabbit. I did think it was a weird name but I never really questioned it.
