That introductory battle was peak Konosuba writing. The Isekai protagonist immediately white knighting for a milf he's never met before, only to then realize he sucks at sword fighting, Said Milf cracking her head on the floor whilst trying to escape and blaming the hero for it, only to run up angrily with a mace and actually start doing damage, and then a 15 yo mage girl who switches sides thinking that these two are heros only to realize the bandits were more competent than her new found party members. All just so they could get robbed by an unseen bandit anyway
The whole session was peak Konosuba, Taro and Mira hitting each other, Mira chugging a stolen potion and getting hit by Karma by fumbling it so then she had to be asking for a miracle that didn't actually help at all, the loli mage carrying the team, the miss that Ringo did and then the critical hit that almost killed Taro, just for his final moment where he was actually useful. Mira being a bitch when Taro was right and being the most sane when Taro acted like a dick, Dee with 12 yo humor and KSGK energy. Man this was a blast, can't make this shit up, peak comedy thank you so much DDK what a great DM.

This truly was a Konosuba TRPG. All of the party members were so useless most of the time, but had their lucky breaks when they counted. I’d be happy if the boys got more opportunities to either continue this or start a new campaign after the long break!
considering Konosuba itself is written like a D&D campaign where all the PCs are min-maxed and uncooperative, it's a beautifully full circle that's been created

Man, as a guy who have zero knowledge of TTRPGs before, this probably did a great impression on me. Karen as a DM is fucking great, not to mention the banters and the unpredictability of the rolls making it the real Konosuba TTRPG experience. I've heard TRPG before, because some of my favorite RUclipsrs made TRPG video. I don't know what the rules are and also the video usually very long (just like this one) so I never watch them. At first I didn't intent to watch Trash Tastes TRPG also, since I fell asleep one hour into the stream. But after seeing many funny clips on RUclips, so I give it another try. The boys are obviously funny so it feels more enjoyable to watch and less boring.
Yeah, from watching this I know I would not enjoy it and have zero interest. It seems like a game that requires you to be sociable and like people. Garnts Leeroy Jenkins move on the alligator was awesome though.

I really wanna see them try out more TTRPG stream. Maybe a World of Darkness one too, It feels like when they face like a vampire or something, Connor would just push Garnt to the vampire and run away.
I felt like I was missing out on something when this person showed up on the podcast. She looked cool, but I didn’t know why my recommendations were filled with her. Within 0.5 seconds, I finally got it. She has that big paternal energy about her.
I loved how Dee, the youngest of the group, who was ignored several times when the other two were planning shit, screwed up the least and came in with the nuke at the end. Mira becoming a 'distraction' and the groups bargaining chip at the end definitely had konosuba vibes. It was hilarious how Taro ended up being a realistic isekai protagonist for most of the story, a normal dude who never learned how to use a sword and magic thus doing nothing but chip damage, missing most of his strikes, and becoming the pseudo-tank of the group.

Honestly at times it did go a little slow and forgot stuff a lot, but I bet they’d get better at that with time. But they’ve definitely got the charisma for it. If it’s something they’d enjoy, I’d fuckin love it

It is mostly because the anti-witchcraft stigma it got in the 80s/90s and overall prejudice towards "gamers and nerds" is falling off. ProZD making almost weekly TTRPG reviews and CriticalRole sending it into mainstream (or almost) helps even more. Henry Cavill showed his Warhammer 40K collection, and Terry Crews streamed JRPGs with his son during the pandemic, everything in favor of normalizing these hobbies.
It's always so weird to hear that DND isn't popular in Japan since it's the predominant thing in at least the U.S.A. I heard that Call of Cthulhu is huge there though. Literally every SINGLE time I've tried to play DnD or anything like that I've had the same exact problems the crew had in this stream; I don't know how to play the game and nothing is explained to me so the first enemy ends up being stupidly hard and drags for a really long time
That's why if you're a DM and see that players have no experience in said system, you give them some low damage enemies with more hp to avoid silly level1 deaths and give them some time to experiment.
Keep in mind that DnD and other such games are designed to be easy, at least in the hands of a competent DM, since there are no save points, you can't just throw yourself at a tough battle until you win. That being the case though, a good DM will give the player the illusion of difficulty, so it doesn't feel boring. If you think about it, in that first battle the boys did basically everything they could to lose but still won fairly comfortably, while feeling like they were in serious danger, that is what I am talking about. Of course with experienced players you can make things harder, it is just something the DM and players need to talk about beforehand. Generally speaking though the game should be on the easier side of things, there have been very few times where I have seen truly difficult battles where the players were still enjoying themselves, and it is always with veterans who want to test themselves after playing for years.
I take it as an intelligent play on the isekai theme. We see the thumbnail before we start the vid. We only see the 3 otherworlders as the protag has not been ported there before the vid is started 🙃

Didn’t expect KonoSuba to come out with an OVA. But I must say it was a very unique episode with fresh new characters.
Funny enough, Konosuba does have a light novel spin off featuring another group of characters that only have done cameos in the anime so far.

Man, as a guy who have zero knowledge of TTRPGs before, this probably did a great impression on me. Karen as a DM is fucking great, not to mention the banters and the unpredictability of the rolls making it the real Konosuba TTRPG experience. I've heard TRPG before, because some of my favorite RUclipsrs made TRPG video. I don't know what the rules are and also the video usually very long (just like this one) so I never watch them. At first I didn't intent to watch Trash Tastes TRPG also, since I fell asleep one hour into the stream. But after seeing many funny clips on RUclips, so I give it another try. The boys are obviously funny so it feels more enjoyable to watch and less boring.
Yeah, from watching this I know I would not enjoy it and have zero interest. It seems like a game that requires you to be sociable and like people. Garnts Leeroy Jenkins move on the alligator was awesome though.

I loved how Dee, the youngest of the group, who was ignored several times when the other two were planning shit, screwed up the least and came in with the nuke at the end.
Mira becoming a 'distraction' and the groups bargaining chip at the end definitely had konosuba vibes.
It was hilarious how Taro ended up being a realistic isekai protagonist for most of the story, a normal dude who never learned how to use a sword and magic thus doing nothing but chip damage, missing most of his strikes, and becoming the pseudo-tank of the group.

@@zeno_2688 Yeah he got hit the most out if the three of them, i think Mira took the least amount of damage besides falling on top of a rock and the 2 damage she got from Taro, meanwhile both Taro and Dee where below 10 hp several times in the story and only got heals from potions.

I just love how, in the recent years, TTRPGs are having a massive comeback and are put n the spotlight alongside video games.
Granted, most of what I know comes from Johnny and Dicebreaker but it's nice to see them even here!

TTRPGs are a blast with your mates but still can be quite fun even with internet randos on roll20
It is mostly because the anti-witchcraft stigma it got in the 80s/90s and overall prejudice towards "gamers and nerds" is falling off. ProZD making almost weekly TTRPG reviews and CriticalRole sending it into mainstream (or almost) helps even more.

Literally every SINGLE time I've tried to play DnD or anything like that I've had the same exact problems the crew had in this stream; I don't know how to play the game and nothing is explained to me so the first enemy ends up being stupidly hard and drags for a really long time
Yeah, takes a few sessions to get into it. Doing a on going story usually the best to get into DnD.
That's why if you're a DM and see that players have no experience in said system, you give them some low damage enemies with more hp to avoid silly level1 deaths and give them some time to experiment.
Keep in mind that DnD and other such games are designed to be easy, at least in the hands of a competent DM, since there are no save points, you can't just throw yourself at a tough battle until you win.
That being the case though, a good DM will give the player the illusion of difficulty, so it doesn't feel boring. If you think about it, in that first battle the boys did basically everything they could to lose but still won fairly comfortably, while feeling like they were in serious danger, that is what I am talking about.
Of course with experienced players you can make things harder, it is just something the DM and players need to talk about beforehand. Generally speaking though the game should be on the easier side of things, there have been very few times where I have seen truly difficult battles where the players were still enjoying themselves, and it is always with veterans who want to test themselves after playing for years.
This stream really captured the essence of Konosuba throughout the journey
