Tsunami Siren on Maui

- One of the hourly tsunami warning sirens going off this morning on Maui, following the Chile earthquake. View is from Kahana Ridge neighborhood, above Kahana, with the island of Molokai in the distance, at 9:00 a.m. on 2.27.10. Siren blast can be heard around 0:46.

The earthquake had just occurred in Chile, nearly 6,700 miles away, so it would've taken several hours for it to reach Hawaii. Sirens are sounding well in advance to warn people to prepare.

In Chicago, they test the tornado sirens once a month. Every test, I still look outside, just to make sure I don't see anything. When I lived in Texas, there was only ever 1 siren I heard and we couldn't do anything. It was during a severe storm, and there was a tornado. Turns out you can't fit 6 people and 2 dogs into a tiny closet.
I also live in the Chicago area and I always wondered what would happen if a tornado came through at 10am on the first Tuesday of the month. I hope I never find out.

I was in Northern California for vacation right on the coast . Being from Buffalo NY when the tsunami siren went off I was like wtf Ima die , little did I know it was a test and they run the tests everyday at noon

Actually, the tsunami didnt arrive for hours, the tsunami originated in chile. Honolulu is extremely far away from chile so it took a long time

Great sounding EOWS 1212 siren. It was recently replaced with a Modulator 6024B

I heard this 2 nights ago.. God it was so scary hearing this siren in the middle of the night.. Even though it was a drill but it really scared me.. Even my hand was shaking and i have to stay few minutes to listen around if it was a drill or not..

This sounds exactly like my local siren.
EOWS siren with a Siratone controller doing the dual tone alert sound. But I can't hear properly whether the siren is a rotating one or not.
When I was on vacation in Kaanapali 5 years ago, I was at the pool one day and the alarms were being tested and some people started freaking out because they thought there was gonna be a tsunami. I knew it was a drill though.

I heard one of these at Cape Disappointment WA. I was not disappointed! Bah-dum-tss! But all jokes aside, It was not a test and it was because of an underwater volcano eruption just off the coast which caused a minor earthquake and tsunami which, thankfully, headed west. I was scared shitless when I heard sirens and saw Coast Guard helicopters flying above.

The siren heard was a yellow EOWS 612 on Honoapiilani Hwy near Hui D Road, clearly visible on google maps street view. It’s since been replaced by a green Modulator 6024B.

What you weren’t told prior to the activation of the Maui tsunami warning system was the magnitude of the Chilean earthquake. The earthquake measured magnitude 9.5 on the Richter scale.

I'm from Chile, I mean it was a terrible catastrophe, I remember as if it were the earthquake yesterday, we were evacuated to the hills closest by the tsunami, which destroyed my house. Now I live in another city, and every time there is a quake, it's a joke for me. There is nothing like the 27 of February.
