I agree with you on that. Natural disasters are rare here in Malaysia. I’m a Malaysian too and yes, it is rare to hear that emergency siren. There is an exception however. During the month of Ramadan, some mosques/radio stations play that same siren when it’s the time for breaking fast. Maybe some states do that and some aren’t. The area where I live does. I’m telling you it was worrying hearing that for the first time but after I know it’s the siren for breaking fast, I can handle it. But still, that sound of siren is scary.

When many people who lived in penang heard the malaysia eas, they thought its wasn't that big of a deal because malaysia hasn't been hit by natural disasters for many years and that "not big of a deal" killed everyone on a nearby island at penang. My mom when she was a teenager living in penang but not near the beach heard the alarm and felt like she was pushed, even her auntie felt it.I'm glad my mother wasn't near the beach years ago. Edit:I have no knowledge of when the tsunami hit a nearby island at penang when my mother was a teenager
