I practically get PTSD when I hear this. We lived in ND for six years when my husband was a missile officer-4 years in Minot and 2 years in Grand Forks. Those base sirens would go off if a tornado was within a couple miles of the base, day or night. I can’t tell you how many times we heard those things at 2am and had to jump up from a dead sleep to grab the kids and cats and run to the basement. What crazy memories those are!

That's when the reality hits you that this really could happen to you this time instead of "somebody else." If you don't have a decent shelter that's also when you curse yourself for not being prepared.

Since it calls the firefighters to work pretty often, I've never really been scared of it. I have always found it interesting how so much noise comes from one small siren.

I live in texas, tornado alley isn't too bad, if a tornado comes, gotta get out of the areas before it starts to form and take your valuable belongings, and find a good shelter, saw an F5 once and it was kinda scary and cool, if gives me the exitement, the way it startled me and how its dangerous, huge giant black funnel, was scary, but cool now I don't want to live near the ocean, because of hurricanes and typhoons and stuff, while in the inland, we face tornadoes, lightning, earthquakes, even volcanoes in some areas, but yeah tornadoes are kinda cool but be cautious and stay the HELL clear
You guys are lucky you have tornado sirens because in March there was a tornado in Placer County (Which is a place where tornadoes never happen). I was there and on TV I was soooo scared and there was no tornado siren.
The point is to instill a sense of anxiety and slight fear so that you are more alert of your surroundings- it’s kinda messed up but it certainly works
