I would honestly play this game. The idea of not going back far enough to save the world and finding it in the midst of its horrific apocalypse instead is a really interesting one.
The gameplay sections looked so organic, the part where Buzz Buzz heals himself, but then walks a tile forgetting that he was still poisoned, was just such a nice touch in my opinion.
I like how this justified how buzz just dies because of porky's mom, he was in a pretty bad state after facing all of this and traveling with his chip almost broken, just barely being able to explain to ness what will happen and helping to fight the starman that startet to appear, and the code newton was really good, seeing the ship being apple shaped, all of it was really great
What I find most haunting is that Ness, even under Giygas' control, chose to go back to his mother's house. Maybe Giygas sensed the attachment he had towards her and brought him there. Or maybe a shred of Ness is still conscious and in control, and in his terror he wanted to go home. Maybe that's why the inside of the house was put up in a facade, so Ness could pretend that he was still a little boy surrounded by those who love him.
In Mother 1 (aka Earthbound Zero), Giygas was obsessed with the idea of a human life and family. In fact, he had come to Earth as a baby and was raised by humans. Unfortunately this is the reason why he went crazy in Mother 2. Sort of like a superman gone wrong.
A real interesting thought is that Buzz Buzz for the most part is unfazed by the atrocities and beasts he witnesses/battles. Presumably because the future where Giygas rules the world is just as, if not more terrifying and horrible than this.
Love this style of showcasing of a longer playthrough, it's such a comfy, haunting feeling. Even the littlest obstacle bumps & the way you navigate around adds so much authenticity to this unsettling little world. Between Sonic 3 Purgatory Hell & now BuzzBound, I really dig this format from you!
I highly agree with everything you just said! One little critique I'd give: Maybe they should slow down on flicking through menus and stuff, maybe also not make such a quick "beeline" to the next plot point. too bad the original game's engine probably can't do a lot of this which means either what's basically a lite version of this(which could still be dope) or getting sued into oblivion
I like that Giygas absorbed Ness to prevent him from stopping him. And that Buzz Buzz just had to go back a few more weeks to our play Giygas. I still feel like somehow future Giygas is merged with Porky somehow and Porkys obsession with Ness causes him to place Ness face on the devils machine
@sonicANDtailsfan157k if unopposed yup. BuzzBuzz said "if you start your journey now you may upset his plans". He was right. Having a influenced creature or thing absorbing the power of each your sanctuary spot i think was meant as a way to untether Ness from the earth thereby making him pretty much powerless to stop Giygas. So the fact Ness starts immediately and the titanic ant is only so far into absorbing the spot that Ness can defeat it as weak as he was while tye enemies slowly got harder all the way ubtil the final sactuary location i think shows how strong titanic ant would have become had those weeks kept going.
At first I thought the thing inside Porky's spidermech at 10:43 was Porky after being either killed or turned into an abomination by Giygas. Then I looked at the sprite for a bit longer and realised something. That's not Porky...
It took me a minute to figure out who it was - and in context it makes ideas like Ness still having a shred of his conscious despite being taken over by Giygas so much worse.
This does lose a bit of tension because it leads directly into the game we know, which gets pretty spooky, but ultimately has a happy ending. Maybe that's a good thing, though!
I like to think that the reason why the ship is apple shaped is because Apple Kid was one of the only survivors of the apocalypse, and was enlisted by Buzz Buzz to create a time machine, or even repair the time machine Dr. Andonauts made with the Mr Saturns.
This video represents a lot of the terror of a very well crafted crepypasta just like "Godzilla Nes", this video is a spectacle, the movement of the protagonist, the vibe that the distorted music conveys, the reproduction of RPG style fights present in the game itself, everything This is wonderful, I'm happy that Earthbound has a video and it's a complete feast for anyone who is a fan of the horror franchise or just an RPG. This video is perfect!
Jeez, if this thing was in the actual game before earthbound started, I don’t think I would be able to enjoy any part of the game afterwards, remembering how fucked up the world we were in if we fail as ness. I am in love with the concept of playing through what would happen if the heroes failed tho, a interesting concept indeed lumpy
I'm still amazed that lumpy goes to the point to mod/animate in the game itself, that's incredibly amazing, and as a begginer pixel artist, it amazes me, to what limits he pushes this art style!
I always thought this plot would make for a dark and brutal sequel: Giygas' consciousness latches onto Ness as the Chosen Four returns home, leading Ness to suffer horrific nightmares and visions -- doomed to watch others around him suffer and go insane by simply being in the same proximity as him.
@@akitarefuge43 i think it means that, if a direct sequel of Ness's adventure existed (i mean a new game with Ness still as a protagonist) it could use a plot like gygas's mind being linked with Ness after being defeated, causing Ness to slowly corrupt as his mind would start to get damaged by gygas's madness, that could make a new and darker story
@@randomdeinternet3582 Exactly. And Ness wouldn't even be AWARE of this until a coffee break goes wrong, and his inner thoughts grow demented and slowly appear in the same speech patterns that Giygas had. That's when Ness realizes, that all of his fighting to save Eagleland has been for naught, because his powerful mind is essentially a superconductor for insanity. TL;DR - Giygas would end up making Ness an insanity carrier, kind of like Fox-Die with Solid Snake, except worse because it doesn't simply kill you.
Jeff and Dr. Andonuts put up a brief resistance, arming the students and staff of the boarding school, but were overwhelmed. Paula was sacrificed by the Happy-Happyists and Poo fell off the meditation pillar after a meteorite directly hit Dalaam.
Paula was stuffed inside Porky’s spider-mech. You can see her inside it during the fight with Ness/Giygas. idk about the others tho but I don’t think I need to know
This is fantastic . I always did wonder what would become of the world once Giygas had his way with it. So many little details that made the hardcore Mother fan in me happy. What’s cool too is that as dark and screwed up as things get, it technically DOES have a happy ending since the events of Earthbound play out as normal. Shame about BuzzBuzz though. Rest in peace, little space Hercules beetle.
This was badass! I happened to notice a ghostly shadow as Buzz Buzz leaves Liar's house. Also, is that a mutilated Paula in the heavily armed spider mech?
Holy shit this was an awesome take on Pre-Earthbound I know EB has very suttle Dark tones in it but this takes it to a whole new level! It's cool to imagine what earth is like under giygas' control and to see the corrupt, unrelenting reality of what could've been hadn't buzz buzz traveled back in time to warn ness! As a hardcore Mother fan this is breathtaking and deserves a spotlight! Great job Lumpy! P.S. Don't think I didn't catch that Mother 3 reference from Ness' Face you tricky devil you
This was amazing to watch, to say the least. 😮 Very interestingly possible backstory/lore featuring Buzz Buzz, giving us a glimpse of a haunting and disturbing “what-if?” scenario of a post-apocalyptic world after Giygas’ invasion without Ness being forewarned about it. 11/10, would play this game! Great job Lumpy!
I always love seeing this Buzz Buzz design because I am under the impression I am the person who made it known 🥺 I might be wrong, but a friend of mine knew Buzz Buzz was my fav character and when she found the book, she shared it with me and I shared it around the internet! The photo I've seen used around is the one she sent me! Also I absolutely LOVE this concept, oh my god~! As usual, Lumpy hitting with the high quality horror
@@ghoulbuster1 Technically my friend is! but yeah! At least I believe so. You never know with the internet. But so far I haven't found anybody else who knew of this design for Buzzbuzz before (or any other that is not 'pixel'). I think the few pieces of fan art I made helped spread it, although not much (it wasn't really super cool art, just enough to get people asking)
the part where he looks down at the ground and whispers to himself "its buzzin' time" before he buzzed all over the enemies was truly a cinematic masterpiece. nintendo was long ahead of their time with this. i had to hold back so many tears
6:30 Oh no... Tracy and Ness's dog had been forcefully fused together to create an abomination called the Chimera Queen. That's horrible. It reminds me of Shou Tucker from Fullmetal alchemist where he inhumanely experiments on his daughter and dog to create a talking Chimera in order to maintain his "job position". That must be a Fullmetal Alchemist references and without a doubt.
I'm not even creeped out because I just love this concept *entirely* and wished that it was something genuine and real The idea of a earthbound prequel where you play as Buzz Buzz is just incredible and the way is executed here just deserves a chef's kiss Also, the idea of everything becoming gory due to giygas is just something amazing that could definitely make you think on how much the future buzz buzz lived in was horrible Simply, one of the best fan-earthbound content i've seen in a while
This is so freaking cool I love this idea and the execution is so dope I would totally play this. I hope you do more stuff like this, the Mario one is awesome but this is just so well thought out and well done that I could see this blowing up. I hope it does.
I've got a lot to say: It's very unbelievable that such a game could fit in a SNES cartridge, hell, the original game was pushing the limits by using a 12 megabit cartridge, still, it doesn't diminish how much work went into this and how awesome it came out, gives a whole new perspective to Buzz Buzz, like yeah, what if by accident, he didn't go back far enough into the past, and because of the fight with the possessed ness, it explains why he crashed landed in a "Meteorite", however, despite his actions, he still died to Pokey's mom by being squashed like a bug. Still, this makes my appreciation for the mother series grow even more, makes me glad to be in the fandom. My favorite monster has to be the Chimera Queen, despite bringing back unpleasant Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood memories
Well, if there's anything to justify his pathetic death, he went through hell firsthand, having to fight giygas' abominations, giygas himself as the chosen one, and also surviving a big fall inside a broken time machine that was in a state of combustion, i say he was probably very tired or hurt.
As someone who grew up playing Earthbound ROM hacks in middle school, this is truly amazing to see. 13 year old me would've been so awe struck by this. Thank you so much for making this!
Honestly, if buzz buzz showed Giegue that timeline before he became Giygas, he would probably call the invasion off. It feels like not even Giegue would want that world.
Ah, so that's why Buzz Buzz's time machine took such a beating after jumping back 10 years, but the Phase Distorter could jump back much further with no ill effect- Buzz Buzz didn't jump back far enough the first time and it got beat up from the dangers from that time.
I know it's not real but DANG! This itches my Earthbound nostalgia. Now, someone has to make an animation of what happen between Mother 2, a.k.a Earthbound, and Mother 3.
This is one of the most awesome fan-made things I have ever seen. You went above and beyond and definitely knew what you were doing. The concept of Giygas taking over like that is so interesting of a concept. I can't believe how good this is. If this was an actual game, I would definitely pay money to play it.
Wow lumpy, i didn't think you'd make an earthbound-related video again, also I loved the parts where buzz fights ness. they were pretty cool. and nice outro too
i've watched this atleast like 50 times. nostalgia and all that but i just absolutely love the unsettling horror aspect mixed in with some banger remixes that fit into the game really well. a horror themed earthbound game is such a genius idea. there was a lot of love put into this and i really respect that. amazing work
This is one of the most amazing prequel fangames I've ever seen. Wish it was real so I could play it. :) Love the attention to detail on Buzz Buzz and the Apple of Enlightenment.
I feel like the game would be even longer cause the bug knew about the save spots or sactuaryies ness had to find in order to best gigyas by fighting his inner self or smth. So the story goes about how he keeps trying but failing, and when he finally learns how to help mess save the world, he realizes that he has to die in order for the world to be saved. Or smth like that idk. Then he find the right timeline, fixes it, and manages to save the world but dies.
Watching this was like discovering your channel all over again. As EarthBound was my gateway to Turn-Based RPG's in general, I loved this interpretation on the future Buzz Buzz witnessed. Really makes you think about what you're fighting to avoid in the game proper. Also gotta commend your use of the Happy Happy theme. Most creepypasta-like stuff usually use that one cave theme or the Cave of the Past. That was a nice switch up. Looking forward to the next big project.

too bad the original game's engine probably can't do a lot of this which means either what's basically a lite version of this(which could still be dope) or getting sued into oblivion

@@Ithan480 I can't blame him to be honest
Maybe it’s his ghost?
I like that Giygas absorbed Ness to prevent him from stopping him. And that Buzz Buzz just had to go back a few more weeks to our play Giygas.
I still feel like somehow future Giygas is merged with Porky somehow and Porkys obsession with Ness causes him to place Ness face on the devils machine
A few weeks, it took Giygas *a few weeks* to turn the entire planet into the hell scape we saw!? 😨😨😨😨😨
Who or.. what Is that thing?
@@thebenz9871 It's Paula.

Damn, from the aesthetics of the pixel art to the music. So creepy yet sooo good.
Now we know why Itoi never talked about Buzz buzz's backstory.
LMAO

Wouldnt you like be determined to prevent that world from happening?
Earthbound is already cursed and we love it for that
6:49
"What the f-YOU can FLY!" -literally me lol
This RULES!!! I love the genuinely unsettling nature of the playthrough and what this means for EarthBound's story. One of your best yet!!
love how giygas ness' design looked similar to the unused final bpss backgrounds from mother 3
Call him Darkness is better
I'm still amazed that lumpy goes to the point to mod/animate in the game itself, that's incredibly amazing, and as a begginer pixel artist, it amazes me, to what limits he pushes this art style!
I always thought this plot would make for a dark and brutal sequel:
Giygas' consciousness latches onto Ness as the Chosen Four returns home, leading Ness to suffer horrific nightmares and visions -- doomed to watch others around him suffer and go insane by simply being in the same proximity as him.
What does that mean
TL;DR - Giygas would end up making Ness an insanity carrier, kind of like Fox-Die with Solid Snake, except worse because it doesn't simply kill you.
how would "coffee break goes wrong" go? What hallucinations Ness will have? Like in Akira
I always wondered what a timeline where Giygas won could look like. Pretty cool
Never thought how messed up it could be if Giygas was able to gain control of Ness. Very cool and well made
Dang…very interesting concept! makes me wonder how the other chosen four members are doing.
So that's why Buzz Buzz couldn't survive Porky's mom hitting him. He was hurt and beaten from the previous universe!
This was badass!
I happened to notice a ghostly shadow as Buzz Buzz leaves Liar's house. Also, is that a mutilated Paula in the heavily armed spider mech?
First Thought: "Corridors of Time"
Excellent as always with Lumpy's stuff.

Very interestingly possible backstory/lore featuring Buzz Buzz, giving us a glimpse of a haunting and disturbing “what-if?” scenario of a post-apocalyptic world after Giygas’ invasion without Ness being forewarned about it.
11/10, would play this game! Great job Lumpy!
This was so dark and creative. The ending with Ness was scary and honestly would make for a fun fan game

The idea of a earthbound prequel where you play as Buzz Buzz is just incredible and the way is executed here just deserves a chef's kiss

This is so freaking cool I love this idea and the execution is so dope I would totally play this. I hope you do more stuff like this, the Mario one is awesome but this is just so well thought out and well done that I could see this blowing up. I hope it does.
I've got a lot to say:
It's very unbelievable that such a game could fit in a SNES cartridge, hell, the original game was pushing the limits by using a 12 megabit cartridge, still, it doesn't diminish how much work went into this and how awesome it came out, gives a whole new perspective to Buzz Buzz, like yeah, what if by accident, he didn't go back far enough into the past, and because of the fight with the possessed ness, it explains why he crashed landed in a "Meteorite", however, despite his actions, he still died to Pokey's mom by being squashed like a bug. Still, this makes my appreciation for the mother series grow even more, makes me glad to be in the fandom.
My favorite monster has to be the Chimera Queen, despite bringing back unpleasant Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood memories
I'm sorry to say but this is like 75% editing and 25% rom hack
Typo? I don't think a SNES game used a 64 gigabyte cartridge lmao
@@charbomber110 I know
@@BulborbStan oh yeah, nice catch, sorry, I was a bit scatterbrained, trying to put my scrambled thoughts into words
Well, if there's anything to justify his pathetic death, he went through hell firsthand, having to fight giygas' abominations, giygas himself as the chosen one, and also surviving a big fall inside a broken time machine that was in a state of combustion, i say he was probably very tired or hurt.
Imagine if Shigesato Itoi makes a earthbound prequel about buzz buzz
Very well made. The incredible amount of attention to detail and the spritework are glorious. Amazing job!
I'd forgotten how anxiety-provoking EarthBound battles can be, really adds to the horror in this case!
If we went by CogDis lore…it’s likely Giegue already knew… but couldn’t do anything to stop it directly. At least. Not Giegue specifically.
Ah, so that's why Buzz Buzz's time machine took such a beating after jumping back 10 years, but the Phase Distorter could jump back much further with no ill effect- Buzz Buzz didn't jump back far enough the first time and it got beat up from the dangers from that time.
It is funny how Earthbound's tone makes us forget how dark the backstory is.
3:50 I swear if this is the pufferfish sound
Really?!
I know it's not real but DANG! This itches my Earthbound nostalgia. Now, someone has to make an animation of what happen between Mother 2, a.k.a Earthbound, and Mother 3.

I feel like the game would be even longer cause the bug knew about the save spots or sactuaryies ness had to find in order to best gigyas by fighting his inner self or smth.
