Madness were one of the biggest bands in the UK during the 80's with hit after hit records and produced great, quirky music videos. They are still together to this day and still perform live.

Yeah, here in the States their song Our House got all the radio playtime. I never knew back then how big they were, and I feel cheated.

@@phildicks4721 Always got the feeling that America never really understood the humour of Madness. Also, Geffen Records, having bigger artists, never seemed to want to promote them in the USA.

Most associate this band with the song 'Our House', which is one of those songs that you can't get out of your head in a good way. This one is gradually growing on me. The instrumentation and overall ambience definitely accomplishes what it sets out to do.

In 1960 the Ska. Is invented by Jamaicans before reggae. The Ska was brought back to England by an English trainer in 1974. And also by the Jamaican prince buster. Who travel a lot in England

George Fame Brough ska to Britain in 1964. mods were listening to it in 1964. The hard mod look gave way to the skinhead look. In 1969, symarip, a Jamaican band based in London released skinhead moonstomp. Between 1964-1974 dozens of sca records had been in the charts. So you're a decade out. I have blue beat recordings from 1962. George flame brought prince buster to England in the 1960s and plays piano on nearly every blue beat recording. You want to know about sca, ask a skinhead.

You see people react to Madness and they get far too wrapped up in the visuals. What you see is just fluff. It is the music and musicianship that is key. Oh look they have funny hats.

I am kinda upset that Madness didn't get alot of playtime on MTV, VH1, and American radio stations. It wasn't until the internet and RUclips came about that I was able to find this band's great music. I feel a little cheated from my youth.
