The GRUESOME Exorcism of Michael Taylor - Did the Devil Make Him Do It?

  • Michael Taylor wasn't a particularly religious man. He lived in the small village of Ossett in Yorkshire, England with his wife, dog and 5 children. While he was liked by his neighbours they noticed he would experience bouts of depression, likely driven by a debilitating back injury.
    A friend thought turning to God would help and recommended an avant-garde new church group who espoused faith healing and exorcisms amongst other things.
    This path would lead to an unforeseen and deadly outcome. However, did the devil make him do it?

    This was a horrible, horrible case, partly because it might have been prevented if Michael Taylor had gotten appropriate mental health care for his depression and never met that awful cult. Religion is a great comfort to many, but it's also one of the most destructive forces when misused

      While I agree completely, I also think they could have just _started_ with exorcising "murder" and "insanity," and sent him home with, I dunno, the demons of being lazy and eating too much or something, which might be the part of this case that has always infuriated me the most. They sent a _clearly_ mentally unstable man home with the promise that they'd remove murder and insanity _later?!_ And only ONE person thought to point out that might not be smart?! What a relief that Christine (as I understand it) had sent the kids away

      My faith in Jesus does help my depression but God also gives wisdom to seek professional help. This cult was already run by the enemy (Satan). It probably led to full blown crazy or possible possession. Sad when people fall into the trap of false teachers.
      Praying that all will come to know God through the one and only way, His Son, Yeshua (Jesus).

      Studies have shown that chronic depression changes your brain chemistry. Religious nonsense would have done nothing. Even counseling and meds might not have helped. But doctors exist for a reason. If religion actually helped heal, medicine wouldn't exist

    I have a pretty strong stomach for stuff like this but this one made me uneasy. Those cult members took advantage of a clearly sick man and took no notice to a woman’s plea for help. Instead of getting him the help he needed they exacerbated his delusions. They are just as guilty as he was of this murder.

      I am actually starting mortuary school in January, I also do not have a weak stomach either, but there is something about knowing what a human did to the deceased in real time, than the aftermath of it. Most deaths, at least where I live in northern Kentucky is car accidents. I have seen bodies that have been in the summer heat for many days. The natural decomposition is not for the faint of heart, but that’s the natural order of life. When you see homicidal violence that makes you feel awful.

      @@celeste.cutz2020 I think decay and the fact that it is natural is kind of beautiful. I was interested in mortuary school actually and it’s super cool that you are doing it. I also thought about being a forensic scientist because of my love of true crime and puzzle solving. BUT the first time I came across a child I would crumble and I think I would lose sleep for weeks after a particularly gruesome murder so I decided that maybe that wasn’t for me.

      It's possible for him to be a psychopath AND the church to be a cult. Honestly, I think he saw in all this flailing and religious nonsense a way to avoid responsibility. He wanted to kill his wife and cheat on her, now he had the perfect excuse. The fact that he was allowed to see those kids again and to go on living as normal is especially cruel. If you are that mentally ill, you are too mentally ill to be around the public. The courts clearly have no clear grasp on what to do in these cases.

    I usually agree with light sentences when dealing with insanity, but not with this case. I have 2 points. 1, 4 years of treatment for the horrors that he committed would be not sufficient to make him not a danger to society.
    2, I personally think that he wasn't insane, as he never showed any symptoms of psychosis before he joined the religious group. He had depression and that isn't always psychosis. His was depressed because of his chronic pain. I think he just wanted to get rid of his wife. I mean, if he was possessed by evil, why would he want to kill his wife whom he thought was also evil? He also said he was relieved after the murder. He was telling the truth this time. It's funny that when he was released, there were no reports of him relapsing and subsequent hospitalizations? There is no cure for psychosis and even with medication, there are always relapses. Just thinking?

    • @mackenziedesire7515
      @mackenziedesire7515 11 месяцев назад

      That's fair, but there is plenty of evidence of people have psychotic breaks and heaps of evidence for how incredibly susceptible the human mind is to cults and their subsequent mind-warping nature. Personally, I do think he had some sort of psychotic break, though I do agree that 4 years of treatment probably weren't a big help. I've heard about this case before this video, and I believe he actually tried to commit suicide several times following his release/prior to the incident mentioned in this video. As for there being no reports of him relapsing/etc., he changed his name at some point so it's possible there have been and we simply do not know.

    • @Pushing_Pixels
      @Pushing_Pixels 7 месяцев назад

      I agree. He only flipped out when he was accused of having an affair with Marie, the (21-year-old!) cult leader. Based on the amount of time they were spending together; I'd say the accusation was warranted. When his wife's accusation put a stop to the affair, he was enraged and decided she had to go. I would be interested to know if he and Marie kept in touch after the trial. Her nonsense about being the "demon's target" and only saving herself through saying the magic words was pure deflection. If it wasn't for Marie, Christine (and the dog) wouldn't have been killed.
      Today, in cases of violent offenders being deemed not guilty on grounds of mental illness, the judges don't decide how long the offender spends in hospital. They are held indefinitely, and only ever released if the treating doctors are confident that they won't be a risk. I wonder if this case led to those changes.

There had to have been a severe underlying psychotic illness in this case. The manner in which he murdered her is so horrific, I absolutely think he believed in his delusions, and then had sick people who made it much, much worse.

The Devil is composed of human beings, not spirits, from serial killers to wackos like this. In that regard, yes, the Devil made him do it; he is the Devil, just like Jeffrey Dahmer, Gary Ridgeway, and Peter Sutcliffe. David, I agree with you. It’s as if the horror movies were setting up the scenarios for this kind of delusional thinking and violence. I watched all those movies and more. The cults who came out over the years were targeting the lost and the mentally ill. They fostered a sense of belonging and began grooming followers to obey the dictates of the leader. I believe that the cult should have been prosecuted for inciting the murder. The slap on the wrist Michael Taylor received was completely unacceptable. He should never have been released back into society. And, what of the poor children?

People are so easy to blame anyone but the responsibility of each individual, it was his decision to have and extramarital affair that goes against God's laws, his wife chose to let him find excuses and comes back even tho she was well aware of his mental deterioration,God's words never said u have to take him back after his affair, in no way the priests were pushing him to kill his wife but at that time the government didn't really took care of people with mental health problems so people used priests and religion to ease and explain the depression...........what's happened in that apartment was not God's work......people take the easy way,if evil things happens its because God allowed it,yet we all take decisions that goes against our own belief to accommodate our desires and whims.

    Even from a Christian theological stand point , the devil doesn't "make " people do anything . The doctrine is that he is a tempter who exploits people's inherent weaknesses and proclivities . He does not remove people's free wiil and they are at liberty to choose the right path . The Satan of the Old Testament , from which the later figure of the devil evolved , is a tester of faith , as in the Book of Job and acts on God's direction . You cannot have a supreme god that allows a rogue angel to openly defy him and do what it likes . To posit an autonomous evil power with comparable or equal power to the good God is dualism , which is traditionally a heresy within both Judaism and Christianity .

  • @scarletamazon3455
    @scarletamazon3455 Год назад +8

    It's very evident he was/is severely mentally ill. Seems to suffer from a psychotic illness of some kind. Possibly schizophrenia, although the onset of schizophrenia is usually late teens to early twenties in men, but it's possible he had late onset schizophrenia, or could easily be another psychotic disorder that made him susceptible to delusional thinking, paranoia etc. That can occur at any age, he may well have had earlier episodes like the time he was screaming in tongues at those church members, but hadn't had such a severe and encouraged delusion or outburst before.
    I have no doubt that the cult he joined contributed significantly. The worst thing to do is encourage and participate in the delusions that someone having a psychotic episode is having. They pretty much set him up for this to happen! Telling him he still had demons of murder and death in him?? Keeping him awake all night to add some sleep deprivation to his mental illness... great ideas.... such an horrific event, he needed to be sectioned at that point, not tortured then sent home to his wife!
    While I agree that he was certainly both clinically and legally insane at the time, he likely needed to be institutionalised in a psychiatric facility long term. Antipsychotic medicines are serious business. They have a huge impact on the brain, especially the ones available in the 70s; and many people are not compliant with continuing to take them because the side effects are often so devastating, then they easily begin to slip into beliefs that they're better now and don't need the meds, or still have paranoia and believe the meds are harming them or poison, and stop taking them, then spiral into another psychosis.
    Releasing him into the community only a few years after such a terrible episode was dangerously negligent, in my opinion. While I don't think people with mental illnesses should all be kept in asylums, and there were many, many problems with asylums! But we do need more long term psychiatric facilities for people like this, who have proven to be a terrible danger to others. Many of the psychotic illnesses can't be "cured", they need to be treated and managed for life, and the nature of the illness makes it almost impossible for the person with the psychosis to have insight into their own treatment and behaviour, making it hard for them to manage their condition alone. Long term supervision and care needs to be more available. It's still a huge problem that doesn't get nearly as much funding as needed.
